Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

My complaint is with the management of this location. We placed an online order on New Years Day. Credit card immediately charged $ 35. 5 minutes after placing the order the manager calls me and informs me that it’s been an excessively busy day and they have ran out of nearly everything I ordered. Ok fine so I ask to cancel the whole order. He agrees and says that he reversing the charges as we spoke but it’d take a few days to show up on my banking. He then goes on to lecture me that I should not order online because they often times «run out». Well you either need to make more or you need to do away with online ordering. It’s not my fault I tried to use a service your franchise offers as a «convenience. «Well here I am a month later with still no refund. I’ve went down numerous times but cannot seem to catch the elusive manager when he’s there. I’ve called a ton of times each time with the employee taking my information, and telling me he’d call me. It’s clear to see I’m being avoided. It’s a shame because the food here is great but after this incident we will not be going back,

Great place!!! Beats lathrops dickeys out of the park!!! Their turkey is sooo juicy not dry at all! And free ice cream oh yes! Nothing beats icecream after your meal and to be free is just a bonus!!!

Went there for the first time today. A big guy with a big beard behind the counter greeted us with a smile and patiently waited for us to decide what to have. Gave us free samples and explained things to us. The food was great and so was the service.
The place was much smaller than we expected, but it wasn’t crowded. We’ll be back.
Oh yeah! The free ice cream wasn’t bad either.

First time trying dickeys and I must say the food was delicious and the restaurant was clean! And customer service even BETTER! I called in an order picked up 30 minutes later. Robert was really helpful on the phone and when I arrived, the cashier was also very nice. I spent 5 minutes in there and my order was all set to go. They did forget a side order but it wasn’t a big deal to me because I was just to happy over all. I got a call back from Robert and said he will be there tomorrow for me to stop by for my side order! Most people would say oh well they can come back if they want it. But he actually gave a call back! That’s awesome! We will be coming here more often!

This place has awesome customer service. They gave us a bunch of free samples. They were very friendly. The food was good. The awesome thing about this place is free soft serve.

Tried to give this place a second chance. It was a bit cleaner then the last time I was there. But that might have been just cause they were cleaning up to close. I had the 3 meat meal. Last time and this time they were out of one of my meat choices. I ask what do you get if I choose ribs as a side. They give two ribs. Wait aren’t they supposed to be serving meat. Not bones. Then if you get the rib dinner. It is only 5 ribs for $ 14.50. Are you kidding me. Then their meet it just so bland tasting. They asked me how it was. I replied «it’s good. «. The guy asked just good I told him that is the best I could say for it. Then I got the potato casserole. He explained it is mashed potatoes cheese and chives. Like most places they claim they will give you chives. Then it come out with scallions on it. For those that don’t know. Scallions are what many refer to as green onions. Chives are a much smaller tuber grass that often has the hint of garlic taste to them. Also ordered the okra. It is the prepared frozen. Near flavorless style okra. The reason I gave them another chance. They had sent me a $ 5 off coupon. Still I would have been really disappointed if I paid the full price. To eat there and enjoy. You have to like things a bit dried out. Or enjoy eating you meat smothered in BBQ sauce. I don’t really care for either of those options. Oh the potatoes seemed awfully dry also. To get butter you have to go back to the counter and ask for it.

We tried out Dickeys today wondering if it would live up to my husbands barbecue. It is very warm when you first walk in and not a lot of room to stand if there is a line longer than three people. As we were waiting to order the manager cut off a slice of the smoked chicken. It was so moist and delicious. I believe the food is a la carte. I got the smoked chicken on a lil hoagie roll, side of coleslaw and beans. Just enough food. Service was good but it’s a little pricey. Kids eat free on Sunday’s. I would recommend.

I have been to other Dickies in Lodi and Elk Grove so I had high expectations since those locations haven’t been disappointing. I have given this place multiple chances hoping that my previous bad experiences were maybe just a bad day for them since everyone has those… nope! They are consistently awful. Whomever is managing that place sucks!
This last time we went, there were 2 guys and one brunette girl behind the counter. The place had one other customer and it took them at least 5 minites to get our order, not great, but it’s fine, usually those things don’t bother me so much… we had to repeat the order about 3 times, and they were asking each other what it was between them! It was one 3 meat plate and 2 sides! …anyway…I was still ok… maybe they had just finished a big dinner rush and we’re flustered… they finally gave us our food and it was supposed to be to go but it wasn’t prepped that way, so she went and packaged it with a not too pleasant attitude… while she did that we tried to get the sauces and they were out of the spicy bbq and the statation was filthy and the other sauses were cold. We left and when we got home we saw that the fried onions and my daughters chicken nuggets were charred! The ham was dry and tough and the pulled pork was also dry, the brisket wasn’t too terrible… I keep trying to give this location a shot since it’s so close to my home but I think I’m finished, I’ll stick to lodi or elk grove.

There was one family inside the restaurant (already eating their food mind you) when I walked in. I cannot attest to any phone orders they must have had.
I stood there do 5 minutes while the person behind the counter continued to prep food, and the other 2 people seemed in capable of helping me.
To be quite simple in this, I orders 3 things for myself and my family (to-​go)
2– pulled pork sandwiches (asked about condiments i said yes to pickles and onions)
1– pulled pork meat plate
The man helping me behind the counter seemed flustered beyond belief when 2 more people entered the restaurant behind me while placing my order.
When I got home, the pulled pork was amazingly dry. Worse than any I’ve had there before, cause usually enjoy this places.
When I went to pour some delicious bbq sauce on our pork, and found that they didn’t give me any.
So now we have 3 items filled with dry pork, no sauce, and no pickles or onions to add flavor to this bland dry desert of a meal.
I naturally went online to leave a complaint as I was upset that I had spent nearly 40 $ on 3 people (without drinks).
He contacted me the next day to offer me a free pulled pork sandwich (singular) if I came in that day.
So let me get this straight, the only way you’ll rectify the problem is if I come in for a replacement sandwich the day after I already ate there? How about the rest of my family who had the same crappy experience? They don’t get their meals replaced.
Last time I checked, when you screw something up you replace ALL of it, not one of them.
It very unlikely I’ll bring going back. The one in lathrop didn’t give me any problems the multiple times I’ve went there.
Shame too, manteca is much closer.
Call me if you wanna make this right manteca.
The man who contacted the first time clearly had no interest in truly admitting they made a mistake.

Food is super dry. The only good food was the premade stuff. I’ve finished my meal and still haven’t received my waffle iron fries. This place sucks. I’ll stick to the Stockton location. Waste of money.

The food is fantastic! I love that I can bring my son in on Sundays & feed him for free (it helps offset the cost of my & my husband’s meals :) The staff is lacking of personality, but that might be because they’re always so busy. The Modesto Dickey’s has this problem also… I don’t need special attention, just a smile, hello or even a pleasant tone of voice would be nice. Minus one star for the uncomfortable atmosphere, but plus one for free ice cream! I’m in love with their mac n cheese– I work across the street, so sometimes I’ll go in just for a quick snack. Wish I could afford to eat it everyday, lol.

Just had a chopped brisket sandwich with jalapeño bean and baked potatoe casserole for the first time and it was the bomb! Friendly staff and free soft serve… you gotta try it!

The food was really good. A little cold. For eating there on a slow day, the service wasn’t that friendly or helpful. I had my hands full with an excited 3 year old who seen free ice cream. All in all, I’ll be back.

I’m going to start with positive, the employees are all friendly and professional. I visited Friday, November 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, hubby brisket and my son kids rib meal. The potato salad had way too much mayo but I finished it and my pork sandwich. At 2:00 am I woke up with fever, diarrhea and vomiting. The next day, my fever was 101.6. Long story short I did the fever, chills, vomit and diarrhea for 4 days and visited kaiser twice due to dehydration. I did blood work and other tests. Today my results returned from the other test: positive for salmonella. I have never had food poisoning that bad, nor do I wish it on anyone. I finally ate a real meal today (day 5) but I will never eat at Dickeys again, nor will I eat pork ever again. I will add that night I dined in, I used the restroom after I finished my food and noticed the soap dispenser was empty. I let a staff member know as we were leaving. So I don’t know if the meat was contaminated from the processing plant or direct handling on site. I’m truly thankful to be over that episode of food poisoning, it is terrible! I am disappointed this happened because Manteca is in need of eateries and decent local restaurants. This one is crossed off my list indefinitely and I’ve told everyone I know as well!

Nice place to eat BBQ is real clean, free ice cream, kids eat free on Sundays good service, family friendly .! The only problem is so hot inside I know Manteca get cool on winter but man please lower the heater that’s why I gave you three stars Dickeys sorry.

This is one of the best dickies I have visisted.
Food was good.
Service was actually quick and not a mass confusion like most dickies are when you get to the side.
Employees are very friendly.

Omg if you love bbq this is an amazing place to eat! My husband and I were so excited when we saw the coming soon signs! Checking to see if they were open every couple days! The staff is so friendly! They explained everything so well! Let us try different meats and we picked our faves. The brisket was sooooo tender and delicious and the chicken was amazing! I got waffle fries and cheesy mashed potato casserole! Unlimited soft serve! I’ll be back dickeys!

yuck. ribs overcooked oversalted and detached, brisket a fatty mound, everything overly salted. This is a new place maybe need some practice but theres way better bbq places a few blocks down the street. The one redeeming thing they have going is the free ice cream but that doesnt make up for it

We went to this new restaurant to try it out. My opinion? Way overpriced, and child-​sized portions. The food was decent, but I ate my meal and was left still hungry, and the bill for 2 people was over $ 30! There’s plenty of other places in Manteca that can give you more food, better service, and a more entertaining atmosphere for a lot less money. Guess we were actually paying for the brand name. Next time we will choose the hill billy BBQ place. Great prices and fun atmosphere with excellent portions and service.
