One of the historic businesses in the area. Old school steak house. Very good steak and shrimp. It’s just fun to go to and see all the old memorabilia and wander the streets of Mantorville.

I have always heard so many positive things about the Hubble House. I got a to-go order of Breaded Chicken Fingers and Pork Ribs with fries along with a side of Cheese Curds. I ate the Ribs first and wasn’t overly pleased with the BBQ sauce on them. Probably the worst BBQ sauce I have tasted in 5 years. The Ribs were fairly fatty, although they were pretty tender. The fries were also some of the worst fries I have ever eaten. It was like eating an unsalted batch of McDonald’s fries. How can a restaurant honestly serve that to its customers? The breaded chicken fingers were also some of the worst tasting chicken fingers I have ever had. It tasted like they came from a cardboard box in the frozen section at Target, minus any sort of salt or fat that you’d normally get with such a poor choice with a frozen dinner. The only reason its not 1 star is because the cheese curds were average, the Ribs were tender, and they got the order correct. I didn’t even attempt to eat the bread roll they gave with the meal, it looked unappetizing. This business is likely surviving on reputation alone. Although I don’t see that happening for too much longer. The«historic» Hubble House will soon just be history if they keep with their current menu/food quality.

I used to work at another of the family’s restaurants… and have eaten at this restaurant multiple times — albeit I haven’t been here in years. Went last night with a group of 12 and was severely disappointed! The drinks we’re watered down, the house salad shrunk in size and the beef tips were as tender as shoe leather. The former owner, Paul Pappas, must be rolling over in his grave. Bye Hubble House… you are well past your prime.

My first visit. Prime rib was excellent. Service A++. I am in Rochester, MN on extended business, so I will be back. This is a tiny town with no lights on, but this place is packed!

Food was good. Steaks and prime rib are hard to beat. I wouldn’t drive from MSP but certainly worth going to if you live in the area. Certainly is old school. I was shocked at how many people were in the building. Actually I was shocked at how large the building was for the size of the town. The town was charming. I got the feeling that people came from all over the area on Saturday night. I will go back.

My husband and I took some family members there while they were in town on a visit. The parking lot was full so I set my expectations high. Upon walking in, you could see the history of the place. The ambiance was a little dark but fine. I had a hard time choosing what to order because everything sounded delicious. The bread that they brought out was nothing to write home about and the garlic bread that they are known for was really salty… too salty to eat more than one piece. I ordered broiled scallops with broccoli and a salad. The salad was a chopped salad which makes it harder to eat because the pieces are so small and the salad was wet. The scallops were dumped on the plate, tasteless, overcooked and were sitting in water. The only color looked like paprika shook on top. Broccoli was overcooked too. My husband had an overcooked, tasteless, and tough steak too. This was our first time visiting and for the price of what we payed for subpar food, it will probably be our last time. I’m guessing it was packed because it is the only eating establishment in town.

I got the fancy king salmon blackened, it tasted great and was a very friendly and welcoming environment with a great deal of history behind it. I would definitely dine here again!

Maybe we just had a bad night but this place was awful. The waitress was boring and not helpful at all. We told her it was our first time eating there yet she repeatedly seemed annoyed when we asked for menu options(such as what kind of salad dressings do you have, what are my choices of potatoes, what comes with this, etc). I ordered the rib and stuffed shrimp special but the waitress had to be told that it was the night’s special. It was so-so. The ribs were fatty and not the fall off the bone tender that you’d expect. The crab stuffed shrimp were ok, but tasted like they had been previously frozen. They just didn’t seem house made, which is what I expected. Hubby ordered NY strip which was awful. No seasoning, tough to chew, a waste of meat. The baked potato was gross. Again, zero seasoning, didn’t come with anything on it(no butter or sour cream, nor was any offered at any time), it was just plain. Also seemed old, the skin was tough and dried out as if they baked a big pan of them earlier in the day then left them sit around until served. Daughter had a kids menu hamburger which was ok, nothing special except over done. Our waitress wasn’t really on top of things to begin with, no up selling or suggestions, didn’t offer to bring anything after the food was served. At one point she walked up as I was complaining to the Hubs about how lame his steak was and I think that’s when she decided to check out completely. No more water refills or any attention at all except to bring the check. Overpriced for what you are getting and then it’s poorly prepared and subpar quality. I’m not going to argue about the place being popular and all. Yes, the parking lot was packed on a Friday night, although I think at that time it’s the only restaurant open in Mantorville, and yes, they’ve been in business for many many years. I have theories about that but I digress. Point is we will never eat there again and would not recommend to anyone.

We grudgingly had to move to MN from our beloved TN a couple years ago. When we talk about going back to the south somedays we count on one hand things we’ll miss here in MN. One of those is Hubbell House. The history alone is so much fun to uncover. A registry of the restaurant/hotel patrons dating back to the 1800’s brags Ulysses S. Grant, The Mayo brothers, Mickey Mantle, among many others who have visited. It’s such a quiet and quaint place. The steaks are very good. The sides are wonderful, particularly the western potatoes. If you like Bloody Mary’s they make a great one-it’s actually an appetizer complete with a pickle, cheese, and olive. Yum! The best server there is Val! Ask for her and you’ll be well taken care of.

If you want to get out of Rochester and find a nice«stage coach inn» kind of place, this is a fine choice. Quaint town location and building. Friendly service. But the food is mediocre. Fish is tasteless. Chicken Alfredo had little sauce and likewise tasteless. At least the bread was warm and can fill you up.

I had dinner at the Hubbell house Halloween night I was surprised of the size of this restaurant for the size of this town. I had steak & lobster it was excellent I would have given a 5 star but salad was chopped up too fine & not much but iceberg lettuce. Wife had same but she ordered Brussel sprouts they were over cooked. Very friendly waitress.

Always enjoyable. Historical and feels like dinning at grandma’s, in a good way. People like the onion rings appetizer and free garlic bread. Steaks are great 90% of the time. Odd cuts do happen.(Is that normal for all steak places?). Food served in several courses and lots of choices. Always leave full. Cocktails can arrive with unexpected mixes so speak up and they will correct it. Friendly staff.

Great ambiance and rustic touch. The food was good but it had no special flavor. If i were able, I would give it a 3.5 stars.

This is a gem of a restaurant. It has a long history of distinguished guests going back to the Cival War. I enjoyed a great dinner with family af few weeks ago. I highly recommend the Walleye. Enjoy!

This is a nice, friendly place that fits in well with the dining ethic around here, viz., inconsistency. Dishes can be great or just mediocre or worse. Be careful when ordering, especially when they’re busy. Take your time, go with something simple that they’re not likely to screw up, and avoid altogether items that require subtle timing. This approach, like the prevent defense in football, doesn’t always work but you’re just trying to give yourself better odds and a fighting chance. Never order the French fries b/c they’re always underdone, go with a baked potato or au gratin. Bottom line, what they do well(steaks) they generally do very well, but the rest is a bit of a crap shoot.

What a beautiul spot, off the beaten path. The ambiance is worth the visit. The dining room is full of eye candy for the lover of antiques, historical artifacts. I ordered the New York Strip and it was cooked to perfection. The service was just okay but maybe the server was just having an off day. I will definitely go back to enjoy a great meal and to learn more about the history of this landmark.

This place continues to please! The ambiance is historical, pleasant and a very relaxing atmosphere, on the elegant side! Wonderful service and tasty food complete The experience. We were here for lunch and Contrary to Unilocal posted hours for the day, I called and they were open for lunch! So here we are just finished dessert– a gigantic piece of bread pudding with homemade caramel sauce! Ordered another to take home. Steak was very good too! Don’t miss this place if you are in SW Minnesota!

A cute traditional supper club makes for a very unique dining experience where service trumps trendy. Its definitely a hike from the cities, but has become a memorable family tradition. The cheese curds are hard to pass up, and the steaks here are great. The bar serves quality drinks, and the employees are all extremely friendly
