This was an amazing find on our way to Canada! The place smelled very inviting on entering and it looked like it was a popular spot with the locals as well. My friend had the fiesta omelette and was very satisfied. I got the Cable Car sandwich, which was a roast beef, onions, and mushrooms on sourdough with a parmesan crisp wrapped around the whole sandwich. It was every bit as incredibly delicious as that sounds! I will recommend to all competitive pinball players travelling south from Mission BC and north from Seattle towards the Maple Falls/Sumas area stop here! I think I just found my go-to spot in that area!

Yes, their food is solid. Yes, they are the nicest couple(with adorable kids) to converse with while you wait for your food. Yes, you should stop here for coffee, breakfast, lunch, or a baked good. I can specifically recommend the chorizo biscuits and gravy and the blueberry pancakes. There’s a variety of other breakfast items featuring eggs, toast, bacon, breakfast sandwiches, and smoked meat hashes. And the baked goods, which vary by season. Stop in for a true«small town» feel with awesome hospitality(and food!) to match.

Wow. I have had a cabin on 60 acres on Vedder Mountain in the Mt. Baker foothills for 12 years and know my way around these parts as I spend massive amounts of time motorcycling, kayaking and hiking the Mt. Baker area. I have had to make my way to Glacier for years for great coffee and bakery(Wake n Bake… right.) until today. I finally visited the Café 542 to test it out(the prior bakery there was a total disaster and I just had no desire to re-visit the location). Well, the coffee is a locally roasted bean, and it was awesome. I have my espresso over ice and that can kill the flavor and aroma. but not here. The coffee is just awesome. The owner Trisha and her husband I met are wonderful. As I walked in the muffins were warm and the aroma filled the place with pure nose candy. I had eggs, a home-made rye bread toast that was beyond awesome and Chorizo sausage that just all came together just right on their open air deck. Lots of picnic tables and Mr. Trisha was BBQing some chicken. These people are into really great, organic, clean and super food in a place where it is impossible to get almost anything that Chef Mic-ro-wave isn’t preparing. Nice to be able to not have to put the extra miles to Glacier if not going to the mountain. Great. Just have to try it and love it. These are really friendly people who know really good food and coffee. I have really faced some hardship in this foothill area spending money and getting really really bad results… what a nice surprise. really!

We stopped at café 542(previously harvest moon bakery) on our way to artist point. The food was awesome — pulled BBQ pork sandwich and Reuben were delicious! The coffee is also great, the owners are super nice as well!

Highlight of the day! After a dreadfully long wait at the U.S. border crossing I needed coffee really badly. Driving along this stretch of highway one would never expect to find such a treasure as Café 542. Pulling in past the roadside sign, I kept my expectations low. Stepping inside to the bright café I spied the large Sequoia counter top and tables of same, spotted the espresso machine and knew we’d stumbled into a place of quality. We ordered a couple of Cappuccino’s, mine with Soy and were really impressed! The home baked zucchini muffin smelled divine,(and apparently tasted as good as they smelled.) Owner Trish was friendly and genuine and you could tell she enjoys what she’s doing. Not only did we enjoy our coffee on the comfy porch while staring off at the mountain in the distance, but we also pondered returning for an overnight stay in the loft above the store. Café 542 we WILL be back. Thank you– It was delightful! Here’s there facebook page! Looks like there are events there now as well.
