A friend of a friend recommended the kapoon(red curry soup with noodles), because I love kapoon. So I purchased a Groupon when I saw it, and tried it. He was wrong. It’s not good. Here’s my beef with their red curry soup: 1) Super spicy. For an Asian, I have a pretty low tolerance for spice, but I feel like this was super spicy. I couldn’t taste much of anything else because it was too spicy. 2) There was no bamboo shoots. 3) There was no chicken — I guess it doesn’t say«chicken curry soup» so I went in with the assumption that because it was kapoon that there would be chicken in there. I was wrong. 4) Instead of chicken, they put the beef meatballs(that you put into phở) because I know some people like, but I don’t like it. I wished it was more clear as to what type of meat I could expect on the menu. Red curry aside, I ordered a bubble tea, which I got at the end of my meal, and without the pearls that I added(for an additional fee). So I did go up as ask them to add the pearls. That was a mistake because the pearls aren’t good — maybe overdone? The tea itself was pretty good. I still want to go back and try the egg rolls, because I like the idea of different meats. I’ll let you know what I think when it happens — probably not soon though. Maybe in a few months.

We ate here after some Christmas shopping at Maplewood mall. This is hidden away behind Wells Fargo so we didn’t really know about it until seeing on Groupon. Well, it turned out it was open when we were there this time. The last time, it was a Sunday and found out it was closed. Anyways, this hidden gem is more of a take-out restaurant with quality egg rolls and soup. We had the pick-2 basket with a soup and egg roll/spring roll. My wife had the phở soup and 2 egg rolls(pork and vegetarian). I had the red curry soup and 2 spring rolls(steak and vegetarian). The egg roll skin was a bit on the thin side but it was piping hot and good. The spring rolls were good and great selection of dipping sauce. I thought the phở soup was good but my wife thought it could be at a hotter temperature. Plus, they skimped out on the meat and vegetables. For mine, I thought the same. However, for the price of $ 7 per basket, it is a pretty good deal. You got a selection of fruit or chips and we went for the orange. The orange was more of a tangerine. Mine was a little brown and bitter but juicy. My wife’s was dried up and hard to swallow. Oh well, overall we can’t complain and would come back later…

The spring rolls are delicious with peanut sauce and so are the cheesy broccoli rolls. Boba tea is surprisingly good too.

Ordered combo with half a bowl of phở, 1 eggroll, 1 spring roll & an apple. Pretty good deal for $ 7. The phở broth was a little high on the msg but overall a good dining experience. Nice staff, very friendly. Will come again to try the banh mi sandwiches.

I love their spring rolls! Everything is made fresh and the menu looks great. The place is small so i wouldn’t recommend bringing a big family.

I’ve been meaning to review this but it’s been a while so I am giving my benefit that customer service is much better now. Food and price was delicious and reasonable, however I will never be coming back. I don’t even know where to begin. I love to support the Hmong community opening and running a restaurant like this one. But too often I find myself dealing with poor customer service… And customer service is so important in this industry. First we never ever received any water or beverage that we ordered through out our meal. By no means we’re they understaffed because there was only my party and another one. I honestly do not mind if our server would have finished all of her duties and then went to sit and and eat. But the fact is we did not receive any of our beverages., and while waiting our server was jumping around playing with the other party… And eating their food(they were most likely family). After we finished our meal I had to get her attention and ask for water. There was no apology. I then proceeded to ask about our boba teas we had ordered. She strikes me with«can I see your receipt?» … Still having patience I ask my husband for the receipt. Of course he said he didn’t have it. She starred at us blankly. If I didn’t order something I would not ask for it. And for her to give us no apology what so ever and then have her assume that were possibly asking for something we didn’t pay for was just absurd. I then got up and went straight to the woman I had ordered from and asked for our beverages. She strikes me with the same«can I see your receipt?» By that point there was only 3 parties including my husband and I. I don’t understand if she wanted a receipt that bad why couldn’t she look through the 3 different receipts she had on hand. Again NOAPOLOGY! I asked to speak to the manager or owner. She starred at me blankly. We ended up just walking out. If you are charging restaurant price for your food please do not have a fast food set up and service and treat all of your customers well. Even fast food places have better customer service.

Spring roll and veit sandwich for $ 10 something!!! Ridiculous. And with 1 star food. The Food is over flavored, too much going on. The sandwich selections should be simple and with a theme not, «I like this and that flavor so I’m gonna fit everything into one sandwich». The sandwich drips juice/oil all over. I had to eat it away from my body. I can get spring rolls, sandwich, drink and a random snack at Ha Tien on University Avenue for $ 10. Coming from someone who is related to the owner. Sorry. I have to be honest.

This is my opinion on only the banh mi sandwich. I haven’t ate anything else on the menu but in the future hopefully get a chance to. I’m a fan of the banh mi sandwiches. I order two of the combination sandwich(one for me and other for my wife) Unfortunately I can not rate their sandwich pretty high. The sandwich looked very tasty, but I’m not sure what their sauce was, but it made the sandwich very salty. And my wife said the exact same thing also. Hopefully they can fix this issue.

My favorite place to get a chicken banh mi!!! Just make sure you ask for it without the pâté if you don’t consume red meat. I love the variety the restaurant has to offer; broccoli and cheese eggrolls, strawberry shortcake eggrolls, avocado spring rolls(my FAVORITE), phở, salads, bubble teas, fried rice, chicken wings, etc. My staple there is: chicken banh mi, avocado spring roll and avocado salad. Delicious! I would absolutely recommend this place!!! The staff and owner are all friendly!

Reasonably priced and surprisingly large portions. Lots of different condiments for their Phở and a very friendly staff. We went here as an afterthought after I was famished getting off the bus. We tried the pork and steak egg roll along with their spring rolls. Their sauces were very flavorful and complimented the rolls perfectly. My girlfriend loved the sweet egg rolls. The phở broth was well seasoned and tasty. The noodles, however, we’re in one solid clump in the broth and very hard to work out. I ended up over spicing mine but it didn’t take away. It also included some beef portions along with meatballs, shrimp and some kind of chewy seafood I’d never eaten before. All in all, well worth the money spent and I’ll definitely be going back.

I was recommended by my co-workers to try out their bubble tea; I ordered both the honeydew and strawberry bubble tea with rainbow jelly and it was delicious! And it looks like you can add additional flavors at no extra cost.

We drive from south Minneapolis to Maiv’s on a bi-weekly basis. They have the beat Phở and Banh Mi around. We highly recommend their Commination banh mi sandwich, phở, and milk bubble tea. We’ve always had great service and food here. We don’t feel that some of the poor reviews on here accurately portray the deliciousness and authenticity of Maiv’s Egg Roll Basket. We are here again now!

Love this place, came to it with a Groupon and now it’s one of our favorite spots! The phở is fantastic and the variety of eggrolls is yummy and awesome to say the least!

Don’t stop at JUST the egg rolls, the Phở is my husband’s favorite in the area and the bubble tea was flying out the door. While they do have an odd list of egg rolls, they have more traditional egg rolls, too. I find the traditional egg rolls very good and the spring rolls AMAZING! They can make them on the spot for you! Fresh AND fast! I did try a more untraditional egg roll. Brownie. It was HUGE and my hubby had to help me finish it. I will be back to get it again. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5, is that I got the wings, and while the flavor was great, I wish they were hotter. They came out of the kitchen warm. The egg rolls, on the other hand, were sizzling!

Pretty great little place, nice break from the usual chains. Lots of varieties of egg rolls, a little greasy but delicious and always hot and fresh. I had an amazing bowl of red curry soup, but the second time it was just good, but their prices are great. Awesome place to stop for a snack, nothing else quite like it nearby. Their Wifi doesn’t work and needs to be fixed, it’s been a year… It’s not hard to do.

Don’t bother with this place. Egg rolls were so greasy like it was drenched in oil. The fried rice I got was just okay. My friend got fried chicken that was so hard and wasn’t fresh. Pass up on it.

Despite the low ratings on this place I felt like I had a pretty good experience here. I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, took my order, and was served within 10 mins. It was quiet with a few other customers so the atmosphere was comfortable. I recommend Maiv’s Egg Roll Basket for those looking for great service and great food!

Location — cute little place on the outskirts of Maplewood Mall. Geared towards take-out with a few tables available for dine-in. Egg rolls — burnt to a cripsy dark brown. Their«variety» flavors don’t make any sense. Broccoli and cheese egg rolls?! Seriously! We tried their pork egg rolls which are pretty much the equivalent of egg rolls at a Chinese buffet. Chunks of meat(?) and veggies fall out with each bite. Pork and steak Bahn Mi — More like a hot sub sandwich. Meat was too salty and too much meat and mayo. Yes, too much meat. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but a delicious bahn mi should have the perfect balance of veggies/herbs and meat. In my opinion, the meat and mayo overpowered the fresh veggies. Mayo, mayo mayo. If you took out the veggies and slapped on a a few slices of cheddar cheese and toasted the darn thing, you’d have a hot sub. Not my cup of tea.

If I wanted food that tasted like I cooked it at home or popped it into a microwave … well, I would have stayed home. And im pretty sure my own home cooked meal would have tasted a lot more fresh. We came here and ordered the rice plate, phở, egg rolls, and a beef banh mi. –rice plate: uh seriously, I wanted to ask if my mom was in the kitchen cooking. Literally tasted like a home cooked meal with the most basic of ingredients. There was rice, some meat with jalapenos and a bit of green peppers? Nothing spectacular. –phở: really? This is not phở. The noodles?! So gross. The noodles tasted really old, and they were chewy. I passed on taking a 3rd bite of this«phở.» –banh mi: it was ok. Nothing amazing. –egg rolls: didnt bother trying. Overall I think I’ll leave the authentic asian foods to the pros on University ave. Will not be returning.
