Wow. Where do I start? The owner needs to call Robert Irvine and pray for Restaurant Impossible to save this embarrassing establishment. I never write Unilocal reviews but thought I should warn others before they spend $ 68 on cold, below subpar overcooked and undercooked food. Service: Monday night with 3 tables in the whole place and still took over an hour for the entire meal. Saw our server a total 4 times. Never checked on us after the food finally came out. Well half the food. Rude. Unapologetic. Food: The chicken quesadilla didn’t have chicken? Oh I am sorry, I was told we need to specify that when you order– yet the server didn’t ask?! Burgers were dry and overcooked. Chicken fingers, burnt. Fries, cold. Pizza came out 20 min. Later and we had to take it to go and discovered it was completely undercooked and inedible. Oh and ½ the items came from the frozen section at Restaurant Depot not really worth the money. After I expressed my concerns to the two staff members there, neither claiming to be a manager, I received a not so shocked semi– apology and an eye roll from one as she walked away from me. Note: I still tipped. I was a server, I get it but where was the owner and where is a manger? I literally left this restaurant hungry. Never again. STL is filled with great restaurants. The Wood needs to quit while it’s ahead.

Stopped in this bar again and was pleasantly surprised! I had a good experience the first time but it was even better this time around. I ordered the pretzels again and they had actually tweaked the cheese like they said they would. Very impressed! It was delicious! Our waiter was extremely kind and we will definitely be returning again. 5 stars for quality food and amazing service!

I have mixed feelings about the last time I went to The Wood in Maplewood. I went with a very good friend; he was willing to try it. When we got there, there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. That surprised me. They have there Christmas decorations up in the restaurant, which was kinda nice. Tis the season and all that stuff. Our server was very nice and friendly; we joked a little with each other and that was kinda fun. My friend ordered a bowl of chili and I ordered a Mediterranean Flat bred and a cup of chili. He got sweet tea and I settled on water because the didn’t have anything caffeine free. We were talking and goofing off with each other. The food was different. The Mediterranean Flatbread with technically a Greek or Italian style mini pizza on flat bread. It was good; I liked it. On the other hand, the chili was terrible. It was probably canned chili that they doctored up, and it really didn’t taste all that good either. It certainly didn’t have the appearance or flavor of chili that was made on the premises from scratch. I would be very surprised if they did make it from scratch. My friend didn’t eat all of the chili and decided to take it home because«maybe the dogs will eat it.» I finished eating my chili because I don’t like wasting food even if I don’t like the food that I am eating. I was truly disappointed with that chili.

A nice, quieter place to watch a game with friends or family. The drink selection is not bad and the burgers are quite tasty. Personally not a big fan of the chicken wings but most of the food I’ve had was good. Usually no problem finding a seat, even during more popular games. The only time I ever had trouble with seating was during a Cardinals post-season game.

My wife and I had eaten a couple of unmemorable meals her in the last few years, but we recently bought a house right around the corner and wanted to give it another try. It would be very nice to have a reliable local spot. Unfortunately, turns out the old saying is correct, «the only thing worse than their food is their service.» My parents were visiting last weekend so we stopped by the Wood for lunch on Friday after they arrived. We went in and sat ourselves at a table near the window. There appeared to be only one person working despite it being fairly crowded and lunchtime on Friday. She was on her phone when we went in, and stayed on the phone for another two minutes or so. When she got off the phone, she gave no indication that we were there, didn’t bring menus or water or even come by to say, «I’ll be with you in a few minutes, I’m the only one here and we’re pretty busy». So we sat and waited for another seven minutes or so, then got up and left. By my recollection and most accounts, the food is not particularly good here, but also not particularly bad. Still, it is a great location on Sutton and theoretically could make up for the mediocre food with good service and a nice neighborhood atmosphere. Unfortunately, the current management seems incapable of doing so. Hopefully it closes and becomes a Dewey’s or something.

Great staff that was super friendly. The waffle fries are good with a nice crunch. The Sutton Burger and the Fried Louie were ok, but nothing to write home about. We will definitely be back to try a few more of their items.

This place is awesome. Wings and the Maplewood melt is out of this world. A stop that must be made if you are in the area

I have yet to enjoy going to The Wood. I had continued to hope that it would get better over time, but I was proven again tonight why I should avoid it going forward. To start, I will admit that the location has a pleasant ambiance and a good beer selection, but those are the only positive things about The Wood, both of which you can easily find elsewhere. The biggest area of failure to me is their food. After ordering their«trash» wings, there was no noticeable difference from regular wings to what was ordered. If you want good Trash wings go to OBClarks or Trainwreck Saloon. They are both better and give you more for your money. I also ordered the Sutton burger(to be cooked medium) and it arrives well past well-done, without flavor, and difficult to choke down. After bringing it to the attention of my waitress and informing her that the burger actually put me off my appetite, she just shrugged and said sorry, dismissively, without offering any way to rectify the situation. I now understand why every instinct of mine tells me to avoid The Wood, which is nothing more than overflow for The Post.

First off, I would consider myself a regular… so take that as you will. Normally I come on Tuesdays for trivia, which is hella fun, but this time I came on a Saturday for the Blues game. Service was good, place was pretty busy, and the food was epic! I ordered the honey chipotle turkey wrap with sweet potatoes fries. Filling and very flavorful. The game was projected on a giant screen. So for all you sports fans… give this place a shot for your next watch party. Nutshell: great for a quick dinner, never had bad food(wood burger, melt, turkey wrap, brownie bites), casual/hipster setting with friendly staff.

Well I don’t know — I guess I’ll give it three stars because it pretty much lives up to what I think the pace is: a modern version of the neighborhood bar. That certainly is the layout and vibe of the place. Fairly spartan with a big bar, concrete floor, arcade games in one corner, booths around the periphery and some high tops in the middle, and a little open area in front of a stage area(I guess for weekend music), oh and about a half dozen TVs on the walls. But it was clean, and the menu fit the bar food expectations: wings, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and pizza. The server was very friendly, efficient and prompt with refills, and the food came out fairly quickly. I will have to limit my review to the food only, since we didn’t indulge in the drinks. We ordered the sriracha deviled eggs(Our spicy twist on deviled eggs with Sriracha and maple bourbon bacon) for an appetizer, and I have to give a shout out to them. There was a light smokiness in the flavor, and the Sriracha was enough for good flavor, without making it just spicy. All I had was a little tingle after finishing them off. The wife and I both got Greek salads, which comes with«house-made Greek Dressing.» A pretty large salad, and really just stuffed with olives and feta cheese. It had a lot going on in there. Pretty good salad, but really just a standard Greek salad with very generous ingredients. My order of the signature wings(One pound of wings, sauced, trashed and sauced again with our signature house-made habanero sauce) was also top notch. I like trashed wings for some extra heft, and the Wolf does have a winning«signature house-made habanero sauce.» It was a good, tangy flavor. And like the waitress warned me, the heat is sneaky. It sneaks in later and then just builds, so that you get to enjoy all the flavor, with tingly lips following, then a runny nose, then watery eyes… I thought the wife’s veggie, brick oven pizza was a disappointment, though. The veggies were okay, but really didn’t meld into the pizza. Rather it was like a flatbread with veggies cooked on top. And the flatbread… subpar. It was more tough than chewy. I could be wrong, but it sure appeared to be something that came frozen out of a box and was just loaded up with the toppings and put in the oven. So, some hits and some misses on the meal. A new version of the neighborhood bar. And pretty much what you would expect from that.

Not a bad place to go for a quick meal. I ordered the big bend grilled cheese and I thought overall it was pretty good. I prefer my sandwiches to have a little less bread but if you like Texas toast then you’ll love this sandwich. The service was excellent. Our waiter was quick and efficient and didn’t hover. I would come here again for a casual meal with friends or family.

This is a great place to grab a beer and good bar food. Being a local, it is easy to come here and enjoy a night out. Not only do they have an expansive beer list but they make some interesting cocktails as well. My personal favorite as far as menu goes is their Pretzels… they are AMAZING! Homemade, fresh, and hot these delicious gems are worth going to the Wood to experience. And the pizza… yummy! Making a homemade crust, you can pick from one of the menu choices or make your own. Would this be a date night choice? Probably not but they as far as an above corner bar they take the cake!

Wow, I was really shocked to see that The Wood has only 2.5 stars on Unilocal!I just had lunch here with my bf, and we had a good time and enjoyed some great food. The interior was pretty spacious. There was one other couple when we arrived and eventually a family showed up. The one server dude that I saw working was really attentive and friendly. My water glass was never empty. Here is what we tried on this visit: — Sriracha deviled eggs. For $ 5, I think this is worth trying at least once. Sriracha & eggs go so well together, and the applewood smoked bacon on top was a nice touch and perfectly crispy. — Sweet potato fries. I thought these were awesome. — One of the specialty burgers… I forgot the name, but it had pickled jalapenos(! I want these on all of my burgers from now on), provolone? cheese, grilled onions, and bacon slices(awesomely cooked). I really enjoyed the flavor combination. — The bf had a grilled tilapia sandwich, and it looked SO good from where I was sitting. It was a decently sized filet and would have been too much food for me. His side salad looked good too, made with a spring mix of lettuce. My main complaint is that I asked for my burger medium rare and it came out well-done, but I was too hungry to send it back and it tasted fine anyway.

Tried this restaurant for a third time. It will be our last. There were two other tables with guests. The waiter offered us appetizers which we ordered. 30 minutes later the appetizers come out with our meal. Did the chef go on break??? The server brought out e wrong entrée for me. I then waited another 15 minutes for the correct entrée. We had to ask him twice for each thing: more water, hot sauce, lemonade. He then came out and filled my half finished lemonade with water! Ugh, I couldn’t wait it get out of there. The service was unacceptable and the meal was mediocre. What a waste of good space.

There seems to be a theme at this place. We walked in before going bowling next door for a quick bite to eat. It was a Wednesday afternoon, a few tables but not packed. There were three people on staff and could have easily covered the floor if they were trained correctly. We sat at the bar but there was no bartender. The wait staff just kept ducking behind the bar to pour their own drinks. Finally we got some drinks and food. Food was good, solid bar food. No complaints there. Please get it together. You have a bar. You need someone to stand behind the bar and make all the drinks for the whole place. Bartenders shouldn’t make taking tables. Servers should not be behind the bar.

After multiple visits — the chicken used for sandwiches has gotten much smaller, cheaper quality, dry pressed chicken. lots of bread lots of grease not much sandwich — $ 10 is cool for a sandwich if there was something on it and the bread has some character. fries undercooked, cold, its lunch time?(like no one cares) no taste cheap cheap service is almost non existent — this should close or sell, sad excuse for a restaurant — Maplewood deserves better
