Tim Hortons Cafe & Bake Shop

Tim Ho’s donut shop has its place it the STL scene. Sharing territory with the nearby Strange Donuts, Tim Ho’s has its pros and cons. The tim bits are the stars of the show. At 2 dollars for 10 of these donut holes, it is a steal! Try the birthday cake tim bits, they are a crowd favorite. Some of the donuts are love it or hate it specifically the french crueller.
This location is open 24 hours a day. The staff has always been helpful. There is also a drive-​through which is convenient.
I haven’t had the sandwiches but my friends enjoy them especially because late night options in St Louis are very limited.

I really want to like Tim Horton’s and I don’t know why.
I’ve never tried ANY of their food items. I’ve had a donut or two, especially the munchki… um, I mean holes. Donut holes. LOL.
I like the coffee here, that’s the truth. I love ordering the «double double» and asking for 2% milk instead of cream. Simple ordering process and consistent product, I’m a fan of that.
Service is more miss than hit. The stores I’ve visited always seem a little lost. It’s as if folks working there don’t really know how to do their job. Still, I visit and hope for the day that it ROCKS.

As a Canadian living here is St Louis I was over the moon they opened here! I even went to the grand opening. Double Double and Tim bits and Im a happy girl. The service is always ok for this type of place but I will say the pastries don’t always seem fresh. It wont stop this Canuck though. Coffee here is the best!

Such a great addition to the area!!! It’s a nice change from Starbucks. I like the breakfast sandwiches and donuts. They have a great drink selection as well. There’s also an express Tim hortons in Frontenac. Such a great place for a quick bite to eat or a day study session.

I’ll give two stars for the customer service. They were kind and very professional at this location. Now let’s get this started. I have been in the Navy and stationed on the west coast and Japan, in between deployments, so this was my first and last experience with TH’s. I drove from Town and Country to Maplewood to try this out at 8pm. Coffee was terrible, I love it black, apparently the DD is the way to go, not in this case, the way to go is QT. The doughnuts, bleh. Go to QT once again for a fresh doughnut. So basically, the hype that everyone in St Louis has for this place is just that, hype. It’s not good. Simply put.

I’m not sure why the stars are so low here…
It’s a fast food, donut shop, & franchise of a very large chain. Are we expecting white glove service? I’m not a coffee drinker but the hot tea, hot chocolate, and the french vanilla have all been very acceptable over numerous visits. The donuts are way better than Dunkin Donuts and while they don’t even come close to the donuts at any of the privately owned donut shops in the city they are certainly very adequate for what they are. Let’s face it people it’s very difficult to have a disgusting donut. The great thing about it is that on Saturday morning when I wanted to bring donuts to work I went through the drive thru and didn’t have to get out of the car during the St. Louis Christmas monsoon we were having. Thumbs up!

I’ve been to this location five times, and all five times they’ve messed up my order. Service is scatterbrained at best. This place needs a lot of work if they actually intend to open 40+ locations. The last time I went, I had a caramel latte. It was so bad I dumped it out.
There is absolutely no reason to go here when Maplewood offers so many awesome coffee and breakfast options.
Sorry, Canada. You can keep this one.

OMG, as a displaced Canadian who resides in Dallas Tx I about lost my collective shit when I visited St Louis and found out they now have Hortons here.
This chain is so strong in Canada there are more of them than there are McDonald’s (look it up)
Get what we call a «double double». This coffee is the best you’ll ever have. Smokes Starbucks into the ground. Their pastries and donuts make dunkin and Krispy Kreme seem like pig slop. I can’t endorse this place enough.
I bought 5 boxes of K-​cups to take home with me.
Please open up shop in Dallas and help these uneducated Texas donut eaters understand what a real donut shop should be like!!!

Tim, I’ve tried and tried again, but I just think you’re «meh.» Every time I’ve visited (3 times now), I’ve gotten a food item and a drink — different every time. And every time, I’ve been disappointed! Your coffee drinks are too sweet, your menu is confusing (last time I visited I couldn’t find the «hot» drink list anywhere! Just cold. And it was December), your food is boring (four cheese bagel looked like it had a few shreds poured on top — hardly cheesy), and your service is slow and/​or unfriendly.
You may have a drive thru, but I will parallel park any day down the street at Foundation Grounds or La Cosecha to get much better drinks, service and grub.

Of course, I heard of Tim’s before they came to the St Louis area earlier this year; I’m a foodie. However, the only thing I use to get while at Tim’s during my trips to Canada were the bagels. The bagels are fresh and the plain cream cheese is good. Much how Saint Louis Bread Company (Panera Bread) was before they became corporate and produced Soylent green bland food.
My coworker decided to get me a round of Timbits (their donut holes) since the person knew I was a St Louis donut snob and would never pay for chain donuts.
I selected 8 sour cream and 2 honey dipped.
While their bagels are great, there donuts are typically chain:
Honey dipped tasted like a mixture between church donuts and Krispy Kermes… yeah I know from one extreme to the next!!!

I like Tim Hortons coffee. I mean the roast. If you need a coffee late at dawn, or night, I recommend it. The roast is a nice medium dark and is where I like my coffee at. The service is usually ok-it’s kind of a Yahtzee roll as to what service you’ll get.
I normally go through the drive thru and find the lanes a little awkward if you have a bigger vehicle. I have yet to master the turn into lane 1.
I normally order the right start breakfast sandwich; it’s pretty decent. I like the coffee and my egg white/​turkey sausage sandwich. I also love me some Timbits. I live for dunking a chocolate Tim bit in my coffee. The filled cookies are pretty stellar. I mean dunk one of those chocolate peanut butter masterpieces in your coffee, and let the magic happen. :)
I’m not a fan of the regular donuts. The Canadian maple was a let down. I’ve ordered other breakfast sandwiches and didn’t find them too appetizing.
I recommend this spot if you’re looking for a coffee spot, especially late night. No matter what hour I’ve visited, the coffee is always piping hot and fresh. As an eatery it’s hit or miss.

After lunch August 25 at Michael’s, Miss C. wanted to get a «latte something» she came to love when she lived in Canada and patronized Tim Hortons frequently.
A friendly and knowledgeable cashier took Miss C.‘s order for a medium iced cappuccino ($ 2.99). I got a maple crème doughnut (99 cents) and a large diet Pepsi ($ 1.99).
That’s one inexpensive doughnut. And the cashier grabbed it from a fresh tray just coming in to the display case. Good move.
We sat outside under a lovely, shady umbrella and enjoyed our beverages over quite a period of time.
Miss C.‘s cappuccino had a major dollop of whipped cream on the top, which she didn’t want, so I helped her scrape most of it off into the trash receptacle on the patio. She didn’t know it was going to be there, or maybe they should have asked if she wanted it.
Miss C. said her beverage was similar to one she could get at QT. Hmmm!
I finished my beverage, went inside to use the facilities and got a free refill from a very pleasant woman.
The maple crème doughnut was good. I’m not a doughnut connoisseur, so I’m probably not the best judge. It was a yeast doughnut with a maple glaze. Very good maple flavor.
I don’t know how often I’ll be here. I don’t do coffee shops, I drink black decaf I make at home, and I probably eat one doughnut a year.

Have you ever been somewhere and was greeted by, «What you want?» This was the greeting I got when I first stepped inside Tim Hortons. Not very Canadian, eh? Later that day when I got to work and talked about it with a coworker, we ended up finding the little incident to be comical. I should mention that both of my visits have been at around 4 in the morning so I am hopeful their staffing during the day is somewhat better.
Tim Hortons does have some beautiful looking donuts and pastries. I have purchased their sprinkled donuts for a coworker and he said they were delicious after admiring how perfectly sprinkled they were. One of our techs had requested their maple pecan pastry and also told me she liked it a lot. I tried a blueberry muffin which was good during my first visit and a breakfast sandwich (english muffin with turkey sausage) during my second visit. I paired up the sandwich with a caramel latte which turned out to be better flavored than I had originally expected. The breakfast sandwich was very tasty as well.
As far as the food goes, I have no complaints but the service, on the other hand, is quite dismal. Both visits have taken me almost 20 minutes each time and were both accompanied with some very confused looks and roughly 5 minutes just to figure out what it is I am talking about even though, one would hope these people have been trained on how to use the register and where to find what. The last time I was there, I picked up a gift card for a coworker and they had to wait for the person who was tending the drive-​thru and the grill at the same time because the one on the register could not figure it out. It was bad enough she was walking around with a cold beverage cup and then asked me again if I wanted my drink hot or cold when I had already said I wanted it hot earlier. When the drive-​thru/​grill lady was finally done, she sold me the card in less than a minute! Then this very same person went on to mop the floor, leaving me to the more confused looks from the other people slowly getting my food order together. She could have ran the place by herself. Then the same guy who greeted me in a very odd way during my first visit came out of the back and started making my breakfast sandwich and called to me over the grill, «Hey! You want these toasted?» holding the english muffins up. It was all very strange to me.
I am still giving this place a 3-​star but only because their food is quite good, otherwise the service is a ½ star at best. I am considering just using the drive-​thru for future visits.

I like Tim Horton’s! I liked Tim Horton’s all over the drive from Detroit to Montréal. We have a Tim Horton’s in STL now and I like them too.
I can see from the reviews posted by others that this place has taken something of a beating. Maybe they rushed to open? Maybe staff training was not up to par? Maybe expectations were set a bit too high by all the hype?
At the end of the day, my opinion of Tim Horton’s is unchanged after visiting. The woman who helped us was pleasant enough. The selection was broad enough. Everything was fresh enough — I even saw an employee finishing off a fresh batch of cinnamon sugar timbits and took 5 of those home as well. Our visit occurred at about 8pm. Where else in the city is still making fresh donuts at 8pm?
I bought 20 + 5 timbits and took them home as a treat for the family. Everyone got 1 each of the 5 different varieties as a special treat. Gone in minutes and lots of enthusiasm for STL Tim Horton’s. I just hope they open one in the Chesterfield Valley next — we’re seriously hurting for donut options out here!

Absolutely disappointing. They can keep their other 39 locations out of STL in my opinion. There was nothing pleasant, redeeming, or good about my visit or the FOOD at Tim Hortons.
I guess I really am a local gal. Give me Tony’s Donuts or Donut Drive In any day of the week. This franshcise will not be getting another penny from me.
For the Tim Hortons fans out there– if you buy muffins, get a half dozen. The price for a half dozen is $ 4.99, far cheaper than buying them one by one.

I’m the donut man at my work, so I was so excited to see that Tim Hortons is open 24 hours. My work day starts at 5:15 AM and many of the local donut shops do not open till 5 AM making it impossible to pick-​up and make it to work on time. The only place I’ve been able to patronize is John’s in Soulard, so now I have a second place to satisfy our donut craving.
I will admit my first visit was on their second day open and I arrived at 4 AM. They were just starting to bake and there were no donuts. All I had to choose from was danishes and Timbits. The next day, I arrived at 4:30 AM and they had a nice selection of donuts waiting for me. The day before I told them my situation, they listened and recommend me arriving at the later time.
I’m a donut hole addict, so I am already in love with their TimBits. They offer a large variety of flavors. They may have a different name here, but I will always call them donut holes. My coworkers love Tim’s chocolate, so anything dipped in chocolate or chocolate on chocolate is their favorite.
As with any new business they are experiencing some hick-​ups, mainly slow service as they are all learning a new job and customer volume. However, their helpfulness and friendly service is making up for the slowness.
The donuts and the coffee are winners for me and my co-​workers, so we say, «Welcome to Saint Louis, Tim Horton».

I was more than excited when it was first announced last year that Canadian donuts were coming to the St. Louis area. The first one is located in Maplewood, and its only been open for a few days (as of this writing). According to one of the workers we are the southern-​most location so far.
And now on to my review, which I will break in different categories:
Speed: the line was to the door. As mentioned above, it had only been open for less than a few days, so I understand St. Louisians want to check it out. I get it. But the cashier often looked like she was lost and she kept leaving her station for a couple minutes after every customer. So things were slow. ¹⁄₅
Selection: I thought the reason people loved Tim Horton’s so much in Canada was because of their selection. Turns out they pretty much have the same kind of selection you would get similar to Krispy Kremes (but much less sugar!). Plus it seemed a lot of the good stuff sold out. ²⁄₅
Service: Like I said above, the cashier didn’t seem to have a clue, but the manager was informative on things. In fact, they had one person (who I believed was the mgr) handling the donuts and one handling the money. The manager tried to hurry people while we were browsing. ²⁄₅
Taste: Wasn’t bad, nor it wasn’t that great either. I’ll just go to Krispy Kremes or any Dunkin Donuts shop. ³⁄₅
I know that I’m probably not being fair with this review since I haven’t tried any of their sandwiches or drinks (I don’t drink coffee and the like). I just ordered five donuts (different flavors) and 20 munchkin-​like ones. But here’s what I think so far…

After moving here over five years ago — Tim Horton’s has finally caught up with me. So good to enjoy this again!
Yes, there are lines in their first week of operation. And yes, these workers are new to the menu and process so it takes longer and maybe not every order is perfect. But let me tell you about my experience today.
Went to the drive thru and was maybe 6^th or 7^th in line there. It took between 10 – 15 minutes to wait, order and receive the food. The window person was courteous and the food was outstanding.
Hands down they have the best breakfast sandwiches of any place around. The biscuits are fresh, the eggs light and fluffy and the sausage was of good quality and substantial. I love their coffee. Opinions may differ since coffee preferences are kind of personal but I feel theirs is great. The donuts are top notch as well (get the maple dip).
I drove 20 miles in one direction to go here today, waited in line and felt it was all well worth it.
Can’t wait until they build more…

First review is going to be more based on food. Since I went on opening night, it’s tough to judge them on the service (long waits, confused orders, no receipt). So I will say that the unsweet iced tea was bitter, but the glazed doughnut was incredible. I’m not sure what it is about this doughnut (and I hope their other ones are similar), but it’s different — not your typical glazed doughnut. A mix between a cake doughnut and glazed doughnut — very, very good.
Hope to say more once I’m able to go back. It’s too insanely busy right now to try to get back soon.
