Nice quiet place, we ate outside and it was nice and cool! The grilled hog fish basket was fresh and delicious and the ribeye sub press was exceptional! Friendly staff! Thank you!

Most delicious food on our trip! Help is certainly local and knows all the good stuff! I got the salad w the Mahi Mahi… Super delish! They have a kids shrimp and Mahi Mahi finger platter which was shared and enjoyed by other my kiddos! Key lime pie is out of this world! The best we’ve had during this trip! This place is a keeper!

Good place for lunch. Definitely one of the better places in the area. Everything we ordered was fresh, portion size was good and everything tastes very good. Service was very good as well. If you are in the area or passing thru, absolutely worth the stop for lunch.

On our way to Key West and had a delicious lunch in the outdoor area. Hogfish blackened was perfectly cooked and the blackening spices terrific. The black bean salad was also delicious with a hint of jalapeño for a great kick. And Jessica, our server, was excellent. Knowledgeable, attentive and always smiling.

Food was great, place was very clean, and the staff was friendly. I had the poblano burger and my boyfriend had the seafood platter. Didn’t care for the coleslaw or potato salad. Overall, everything was great. Next time I want to try the spicy fries.

Very enjoyable meal. I had the hot pastrami sandwich, wife had a salad with kind of a shrimp slaw on top. Both were great and everything that came out of the kitchen looked like something I’d want to try. Everything cooked to order at this awesome, little place.

Fantastic food, fast service, and really sweet employees! Highly recommended. We had the shrimp chowder(soup of the day) conch basket with fries and bean salad, the calamari salad, hogfish sandwich with potato salad, and key lime pie. Everything was fresh and delicious. We were there on a Tuesday for lunch and it was busy but we didn’t have to wait long at all for the food. Great spot!

Wow. What a great little spot. We picked up some lunch on our way to the beach. The catch basket was great– the grilled hogfish was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The black bean salad was a nice little accompaniment. Definitely try the smoked fish dip– probably the best fish dip I’ve ever had. The level of smokiness was just right and again the fish tastes super fresh. I highly recommend this as a pit stop to load up on goodies on your way to sombrero beach(just a 7 – 8 minute drive).

Well deserved reviews, we came just as it opened and it was amazing. I recommend the buffalo mahi! They have a cute little Tiki hut which adds to the ambiance. They would charge 15 for a sandwich if they were on the water. I know glad I found this little Gem! I will be back.

We are from Ft Lauderdale and heading to Key West for the weekend. Really wanted to eat lunch somewhere out of the normal places we stop at. This place was really good. I had the loaded mahi sandwich from the specials and my husband had the Cuban sandwich. These are not the typical sandwiches normally offered at keys restaurants — nice special touches with different ingredients. Very tasty. Had the black bean salad as a side — really refreshing and good. I would highly recommend this place. Not on the water, but nice outdoor tiki area to dine in.

This place is awesome! We had avoided eating here because we did not think it was dog friendly… So untrue! They allow dogs in their beautiful outdoor dining area. I think we came at just the right time because it was not busy(so avoid the lunch rush and have the place to yourself). Service was great, food was great and the dog friendly environment will bring us back again and again!

Really good food, often with an interesting twist. Parmesan and banana peppers on calamari? I would never have thought of the idea, but Brutus serves it, and I like it! Fried conch was good; Shrimp chowder was great; coleslaw was kinda meh. Came back a second time with our own freshly-caught hogfish, and it came out delicious, both fried and blackened. Brutus seems to usually be pretty busy, but it(along with most of the restaurants in Marathon) is closed on Tuesday night. Can anyone explain this to me? Brutus has twice as many outdoor tables as indoor ones. The outdoor tables are well-shaded, and it’s nice to eat in the breeze. The service is very fast; on our second visit the entrees actually came out before we were finished with our soup, which might be considered a minus.

Stopped in for lunch(part 2) on our way down to Key West. There were so many options along the way for food, but Brutus came with high marks on multiple sites. It’s an unassuming place along US1. We pulled over & went inside. You can buy seafood to go, or in our case, we sat outside under the tiki hut to dine in. Since I wasn’t hungry — and I was with someone who does not eat seafood, I had limited option with my order(not about to order so much food that I couldn’t finish). I ended up with the Conch Chowder($ 5.99 — a little expensive for a small bowl of soup) which tasted good, but not sure if it is the best. I also had the Shrimp Sampler appetizer($ 14.99). Truth is I really wanted Stone Crab Claws but only wanted 1 giant claw but was told they are only served by the pound. Well, I still ended up with tons of food. The Shrimp Sampler came with a small bowl of shrimp salad(very good), about 5 – 6 pieces of fried shrimps(very good as well) and a big hand full of peel & eat shrimps. Honestly it was a lot of shrimps for the price. I am not the biggest fan of peel & eat shrimps but they are good and fresh and bouncy. I ended up packing them for later. Service was slow but it was in between shifts. Overall the dine-in experience was a solid 3 – 3.5 stars rating. NOW — here is the extra that pushed it to 4-stars. I really wanted the crab claws, so I went inside the shop and guess what, I could buy just 2 claws(I got the large size, on special for $ 17.95/lb). She even cracked it for me and put it on ice. And the 2 claws came to $ 8 which wasn’t bad at all. And they tasted great, very sweet and fresh. Lesson — don’t forget you can buy raw bar items inside at whatever portion you want!

Four stars because the food and venue and service was great! Missing a star because the French fries, kids chicken, and black bean salad were under par. I’d recommend getting the fried conch appetizer and getting a side of sweet potato fries with whatever you order.

The blackened hogfish, clam chowder, fried conch, Argentine tacos, and key lime pie at Brutus Seafood are the bomb, and the service is great, too! We stopped at Brutus on a whim after reading some Unilocal reviews last weekend during a little road trip and we were pleasantly surprised that such an unassuming place had such WONDERFUL food. Never judge a book by its cover. Unilocal scores again. YAY!

Awesome! Amazing! A-One! We were staying in Duck Key and needed lunch. This place had good reviews on Unilocal so we gave it a try. What a find! The waitress(Beth) was amazing. She was friendly, patient and helpful. She guided us to the best of the menu and we couldn’t have done better. They had a seafood chowder that day, that was out of this world. Several of us took it to go. Then the fried conch, which was incredible. It was my first time having conch and now I know if I try it somewhere else, it had better be this good. I finished with the Catch of the Day sandwich. I had a choice between Mahi Mahi and Hog Fish. I chose the hog(at Beth’s recommendation) and it was great. They have an outdoor seating area that is pretty cool(literally). It’s under a grass roof and quite pleasant, even on a warm day. The next time I’m in Marathon, I know where I’m having lunch.

Was skeptical when we pulled up… it’s not an impressive looking place and as other reviews point out the tiki does overlook a parking lot. But much to our surprise the food was nothing short of AMAZING!!! We began with conch salad which is tasty and boasts huge chunks of meaty bites. Was so good we bought TWO pounds of it to take home. And then decided to also had to have the fried cracked conch — great decision! Was fried perfectly and the chipotle sauce was DELISH! My hubby, a Florida boy who dives and is a seafood aficionado, had the blackened hogfish. He is not easy to please with this fish as its one of his faves… it was light, flaky and DELICIOUS! He also really enjoyed the Castaway beer. I opted for the Argentina tacos, the steak was seasoned to perfection and had a delightful chimichurri sauce. Don’t miss this place if you’re in the area… the staff is friendly and super attentive. If we were here longer, we’d be back again. But it will definitely be in our plans for ANY future trips to the Keys!

On my drive back up to Miami from Key West this was probably the best place we snagged a meal in the Keys. We walked inside to a little fish market and kitchen with a few tables inside. We noticed they had a comfortable shady outside dining area and we sat there. The service was friendly and efficient. For our lunch we had the mahi mahi tacos and the shrimp po’ boy. The bread on the po’ boy was toasted perfection — just the right type with delicious Garlic lime cilantro sauce to go with the shredded cabbage and lettuce. Both were delicious and fresh. This wasn’t any kind of tourist trap food and you could see that great care went into the prep of these meals. If seafood isn’t your thing they had many other interesting choices such as korean bbq tacos, pulled pork, Mojo pork, and a few other specials. I saw some of the other diners with these dishes and they looked really good. Glad we stopped in and look forward to do it again the next time we are driving down to the Keys. I noticed a sign that they were going to be closing a 5pm — perhaps these are the start of the«low» season hours? Not sure, but call to confirm they are open if you are planning on stopping — which by all means you should!
