After a long day of motorcycling I got a room in the motel around the corner to take shelter from the encroaching winter fog and darkness. Parked the bike, unloaded my gear, and then discovered that the only restaurants within walking distance were a chain sandwich shop and Jolly Kone. I decided to take my chances on the local spot. Was not disappointed. While the friendly and very polite woman behind the counter made a fresh batch of fries and cooked my burger, I dashed around the corner into the convenience store that houses the chain sandwich shop, bought a bottle of decent Mexican beer, got back just in time to grab those hot French fries and burger, and strolled back to my motel room to enjoy the finest meal in Maricopa that evening.

Stoped here yesterday on the way back from LA. Good root beer floats. $ 2.25…A very big medium. Don’t get the chow mein. Its no where near authentic… or chinese fast food. But it was edible. The noodles were spaghetti noodles over cooked, mixed with no joke salad mix from a bag. GIGANTICPORTION with white rice for only $ 5.50

Surprisingly good shack in the middle of nowhere.

The Jolly Kone is four stars considering the circumstances — in the middle of the oil fields and scrub with little in the way of restaurants for miles. The food is inexpensive and filling. Quality shakes and grilled cheese sandwiches. Little in the way of ambiance if that’s your bag. Highly recommended for those traveling to or from the Carrizo Plain.

Soft Serve in the middle of California Oil Country. The area surrounding this place is littered with pumpjacks(oil pumping machinery that looks like a bird drinking water), grape vines, and carrot farms. If you’re cutting across from Bakersfield to the coast(166) you’ll go right past this place. Make it a point to stop in. — Watch out for cops in this city.
