Out in Marietta, NY, you’re likely to find more cows than people. There’s not much out here besides homes and farms. Though it’s only about a 20 minute drive from civilization, when you’re in a pinch and need one item quick, a 20 minute drive is forever. That’s where D&R comes in. On the corner of Amber Rd and Otisco Valley Rd is D&R Convenience, a little unassuming building right across from Otisco Lake. But D&R is more than your normal convenience store. They have close to EVERYTHING you need in a pinch, and a couple other items you may not expect. The store is basically divided up into three sections. The right hand portion is your normal convenience/quick grocery store portion. Soda, beer, canned goods, candy, bread, milk, some frozen items, etc. The middle section is 90% hardware/tools, and 10% toys with a small assortment of kids toys. The hardware section has come in handy… nuts, bolts, duct tape, piping, hand tools, etc… a lot more than you’d expect. Definitely useful if you’re trying to fix something and don’t have the right tool, and don’t wanna drive into the city to buy one. It’s not Home Depot or anything, but there’s a pretty wide selection of home improvement stuff if you need it quickly. The third section on the left is their deli. They have a wide assortment of different subs and sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, and even pizza and wings. My wife and I order from here regularly. Most of their stuff is pretty good, especially for a convenience store. They have some great loaded fries, huge portion too. Their subs can be really good. Haven’t tried their pizza and wings yet. They also do ice cream in the warmer months. But they have a random assortment of other things too. DVDs, fish bait, lottery tickets, and they have a couple gas pumps as well. Everything besides their deli is a couple cents/dollars more expensive than your city stores, but nothing crazy, and worth it if you need something quick. You’d spend the extra cents/dollars in gas driving anywhere else anyway. Their employees are always very nice and helpful. There’s a $ 5 minimum for any credit/debit card transactions. You need some canned tomatoes? They have it. A wrench? D&Rs got you. A sandwich? Oh yeah, you can get that too.
