I love that Unilocal puts on fitness events around town for us to try new places. I actually tried this place last year through a Unilocal event and loved it so I ended up joining the gym. I was eager to attend this Fit Club event so that more people would be introduced to a place where I love to workout. The bootcamp workouts are my favorite. I really like the stations and rotating through each one so that I’m not bored. And you don’t spend too much time at each station. It helps you get through a brutal station knowing you’ll get to move to something new in just a little bit. The Fit Club workout started out with some stretching to help everyone get warmed up. It was a gorgeous day so we proceeded outside to jog a lap around the building. Our first stations were set up outside for us. We rotated between doing jumping jacks, side shuffles, jump ropes, medicine balls, and sprinting up ramps. We were at each station for 30 seconds and rotated through each station 3 times. Our next stations were set up for us inside. We did a wide variety of different exercises to keep our heart rates up. I ended up burning about 600 calories during the hour workout session. Thanks Heidi, Aurora and Russel for setting up this awesome workout!

«Yeah, I stayed. I stayed because every time you threw a brick at my head or said I smelled; it hurt, but it could never hurt more than everyday of my life just being me. I stayed because I thought if anyone can change me, can make me not me, it was you! The greatest kung fu teacher in all of China!» — Kung Fu Panda(2008) What another killer workout! This time around it brought us to the Atlanta Kung Fu and Sanda Center — admittedly a place I do work out on a somewhat regular basis. But knowing Sifu Russel, he had something different in store for us today and boy did he! After some warm-up stretching and a quick«jog» around the building(bad knees means no jogging for me), we started with some stations outside — shuffle steps, jump ropes, medicine balls, sprints, jumping jacks. We did these in a round-robin style with only 30 seconds at each station until we moved to the next. I can do anything for 30 seconds, right? After 3 rotations, I was well warmed up! We cam inside, hydrated and had a new circuit set up. This one combined arm exercises, leg exercises(some endurance, some cardio, some strength). Again, 30 seconds each and 3 rotations. One of these was a plank for 30 seconds — I was thrilled to see I had worked my way up to 30 seconds without either wanting to die or falling flat. Each circuit Russel set up, was harder than the previous one. And the whole way, we had Aurora rooting us on! By the end of the 3rd circuit, I was spent — for sure! But in that great way where you know you have done a great workout and can feel good about yourself. We finished with some stretches(some I just could not do due to injuries, and others I did for longer than most because of those same injuries). That other beauty of this environment is that Russel can always modify for injuries(inflamed Hip Flexor) and bad genes(crappy knees). One of the many reasons I keep coming back to AKFSC. Not only did we work our behinds off — but I burned more calories in 60 minutes than I ever had before in a Boot Camp workout at this location before — 570! Just awesome(even Russel was doing some celebrating at that number!). I’ll continue to come to this gym and continue my workouts and training — they really make you feel like a part of the family and want to work harder each time. No slacking allowed, but you really want to please. I love this place and was thrilled Heidi got us here as a part of Fit Club. So many thanks to Russel, Aurora and Goddess Heidi for getting us moving and sweating and feeling great! I know I will sleep well tonight.
