Well that was a horrible experience. My sister and I wanted to treat our elderly parents out to lunch. We were seated right around 2pm, which is apparently when their lunch hours end. Our«waitress» clearly did not want to serve us and very begrudgingly set our table and impatiently took our order. Mom’s water was room temperature and when she politely asked for more ice the waitress acted like it was the biggest inconvenience in the world and said«I’ll get more ice later.» During the wait for our food she never came back to check on us and our glasses remained empty. I thought the floor manager would assist us because she kept looking over but never approached our table. The waitress eventually brought our food and promptly vanished for good, apparently done with her shift. The floor manager brought us our check, which was incorrectly split when we had asked for one bill and then proceeded to be irritated that we asked for dessert and told us about how busy their upcoming night was and they were basically closed. I understand that they might have a busy night ahead of them but that doesn’t excuse their rude and unprofessional behavior. We will certainly not eat their again and its doubtful I’ll ever purchase any of their wines in the future.

I’m really big on local wineries and breweries. My sister moved here in 2008 and we discovered the Marietta Wine Cellar. My favorite wine is the Redalicious Glory, which is a sweet red muscadine wine. The bottles usually sell for $ 12 – 15 dollars a piece. They also have accessories for the wine bottle(corks, decorative girly crap), as well as gift basket wrapping. You can try the wine on weekends, for sure, for about $ 1 a sample. They have a small cheese and meat counter, and they actually have started serving lunch daily. It is a very quaint place in the small town of Marietta, which holds between 14,000 to 15,000 people. They make special Christmas wines around November, but you need to buy them the day they come out, as they sell out fast. Please be advised of their new location; they used to be on Front Street, and now they are on Second Street(the old location burned down).

I’m still unsure how I went a week in West Virginia without a glass of wine. I looked up and found three wineries, but two of them didn’t have tasting shops. The third I spent an hour driving around trying to find! Finally, during my last days on my trip I visited Marietta, Ohio and came across Marietta Wine Cellars. After having their last location catch on fire, they reopened their present location a block off the main shopping strip along Second Street. Not only do they have a gift shop with a bunch of wine accessories, but they also have a café which sells meats and cheeses where you can eat and pop open your bottle of wine. Don’t worry if you don’t finish it off, they’ll put it in a take-home bag for you. My all time favorite thing is that tastings are FREE! You get unlimited tastes too. The owners are more interested in helping you find something you like than limiting your choices. Just be sure to tip them well ;). They also don’t believe that wine should be too expensive to enjoy, so all of their bottles range from $ 7 – 12. Usually I’m a fan of White wines, but here I seemed to purchase all Reds. I was a tad disappointed because their wines are not made from grapes on their own vineyard. Instead, they’re tasty juice concoctions. At least they bottle all their wines in-store. They have stellar Sangria, so much that I wish I could have brought more than one bottle on the plane with me. I also enjoyed their Sternwheel Red of sweet strawberry with white merlot(first white merlot I’d ever had)! My favorite wine they had was the Red Fusion which is a full flavor red with pomegrante juice! Their wine would make great gifts with their logo featuring a sternwheel boat – A Marietta classic. They do not sell their wines online simply because they want to speak to their customers. So just call them up to place an order or stop by for a tasting. Also, reuse your bottle carrying box and they’ll give you a discount for your next visit.
