I’ve been coming to Jonathan’s class for 7 months now through ClassPass and I can’t get enough of these tennis lessons. I played some high school and middle school tennis, but was never really good and then I found Jonathan’s class and basically learned everything that my tennis coaches never taught me. Jonathan is great at teaching you the fundamentals, but also allows you to progress with each class, even though I take group lessons with him and there are often new players. He cares about all of his students and not only teaches us proper technique but also gives tips on injury prevention. Finally, I enjoy his humor and light-hearted classes and always leave in a good mood. Check out my full review of the class on my fitness blog:

mr. bailin is a decent tennis instructor but he surprisingly behaves the middle school gym coach. he treats his adult class attendees like kids. you remember that stiff and clearly frustrated teacher in the eighth grade that got off on the power of humiliating the kids he didn’t get along with, while elevating the ones who’d shine his apples. he owns the same perversion of control and caricature you might expect from a john hughes, teen angst film like ‘the breakfast club’ or ‘ferris bueller’s day off’. but his humorless/authoritarian approach to his profession, was all too familiar while at the same time both unfunny and humiliating. i’m a grown man, and admittedly don’t take kindly to this authoritarian type behavior, and neither did others on my class. no doubt, he reveals some valuable lessons learned likely from more than 50 or so years of instruction. but he is not pleasant to those he doesn’t favor nor those who might turn up 3 or 4 minutes late. all this is to say that if you don’t mind getting your knuckles slapped with a ruler, your term paper appraised with insult or being dragged off to the principal’s office by your ear, you won’t share in my view of mr. bailin’s difficult personality. this not to say your tennis stroke won’t improve if you can stomach the time and false regard you might have to muster. sd

You’ve come to the right place. We love Dr. Jonathan. He is definitely the authority on tennis! Hubby and I are beginners to tennis — I’ve played but never had a formal lesson so it’s great to learn the foundations of a sport I enjoy so much. We’ve just started with Jonathan a couple weeks ago but already we can play together(vs. just chasing high balls and out balls and getting frustrated with eachother for being hopeless), and Jonathan is helping us get a really good foundation in technique but keeps it stimulating and active. His lessons are fun and very active, but never rushed. Jonathan is a lot of fun even though he takes his job seriously. We get the impression he has a lot of students and a packed schedule, yet he never acts bored or impatient with us newbies, and that he loves teaching. We always feel encouraged and we can have a laugh at ourselves too. I wish our lessons were 2 hours instead of 1, they’re so enjoyable. He also has excellent pricing, super competitive! He also teaches the specialty stretching techniques so that we can avoid injuries in the agile sport of tennis. Final note, you simply can’t beat his location… it’s on the marina, and you’ll love the fresh air, water and boats, if you’re outdoorsy!

Jonathan is and excellent doubles coach to refine your physical skills and mental awareness and attitude. He has been invaluable in helping me learn how to stay positive on the court and gain confidence in my overall approach to the game. I always look forward to a session under his guidance. Thanks!

I would highly recommend Jonathan to anyone that is looking to learn how to play tennis or is looking to refine their skill set. He has a complete understanding of the techniques and strategies you need to learn to become successful. And his group classes are a great way to meet friends that you can play with to get better.
