The Pilates Connection

I came here for a Jumpboard class taught by Jasmine and the class itself was very good, she is a great instructor and the class was well structured from warm-​up to the finish. I found parking very easily on the street so that was not an issue for me at all. The studio itself however is very basic and small with about 5 reformers. Quality of instruction is definitely 5 stars but I am used to studios that are a bit larger with more amenities and higher energy from larger classes so that is my preference and my reason for the 4 star review over 5 stars. Good for a pilates class when I am in the area but overall I prefer larger studios with showers and more amentities and a bit more high energy from larger class sizes.

Jasmine was one of my favorite teachers in my early days of Pilates, but I lost track of her when she went out on maternity leave 8 months ago. What a treat to find her at this lovely little studio! She remembered my stopper and foot bar settings after all this time and helped me through my first class on a Peak reformer.
Great equipment: I felt more supported than on other machines, in a good way. With chronic neck problems (Spasmodic Torticollus) I am very careful about 100s and neck support, and Jasmine helped with modifications. The music was spicy but cool and the sequencing was A+.
If you haven’t taken with Jasmine, you are in for a real treat… my abs are achingly sore, and her footwork series had thighs engaged! I’ll be back, for sure…

I’m new to Pilates. I found Pilates Connection through Class Pass. After reading the reviews here, I decided to book a class with Beth. She was wonderful! She made me feel comfortable. Her class has a very relaxed feeling. I got a terrific workout. I took the class today and I know I’ll feel that «good sore» tomorrow.
I highly recommend this place and Beth. Very good workout very good-​feeling place.

I took my first class today and thought it was great. The chair is challenging and a nice variation along with the reformer machine. It’s a small boutique studio which allows for a more personalized work out.

If this review was only for Beth, it would be 5 stars.
I was determined to get back in shape, and Pilates seemed to be a good option. Based on the great Unilocal reviews, I stopped in one day around Memorial Day to check out the studio, Beth had time to do a private session with me right then. It was my first time on a reformer, Beth was a GREAT instructor, very patient, devoted to safety and good form.
this is lengthy, based on my later emails with Beth:
My plan was 3 private sessions per week, then group sessions. Beth was booked, so I scheduled my 2^nd session with Luann, after reviewing her bio and photo on the site; seemed friendly, one of the positive Unilocal reviews noted she was «great.»
In hindsight, I should have asked some specific questions about Luann’s style; if I had known she is a boot-​camp type of instructor, I would not have scheduled with her. I prefer instructors who are friendly, positive, and supportive, with patience for newbies.
I arrived at 11:45 for my 12 PM session, planned to sit quietly if a session was still going on. There was a semi-​private session, the instructor turned and glared at me, without a word. I realized arriving early must be a faux pas, returned 10 minutes later. The girls were still on the reformers, with the instructor standing at the bottom, with her fists on her hips. When they were finished, the instructor asked how the session went, that she had seen them sweat. The girls did not respond, but seemed calm. the instructor said «we clean up after ourselves here, girls» told them to use the spray bottles. There was no smile, no warmth, no «great session,» nothing.
Was not sure that was Luann (she did not look at all like her photo; in person, she has chin-​length dark hair, wore glasses, was over-​weight), so I said my name, and that I was there for a session with Luann. She said that was her, told me to go sit on the bench and wait, which I did. She had trouble with the computer, finally found my name. She then walked toward me, said I had the intro session now needed to pick a payment package, handed me the same rates list I already had. She then stood in front of me with her fists on her hips.
There was no hello, no greeting of any kind. Luann did not ask me anything, not even how my first session went, gave no indication she even wanted to work with me. Just stood a foot in front of me, with her fists on her hips, staring at me, waiting for me to choose a package. I was uncomfortable with her demeanor and body language, and knew I did not want to have my 2^nd ever Pilates reformer session with an instructor who was having a bad day.
The girls were still there, toweling off next to me (still sitting on the bench); I did not want to have this discussion next to them, so said I did not think I wanted to have the session. Luann did not ask if anything was wrong, just said «that’s fine. But the time was booked for you, you have the pay the full amount.» I said OK, handed her the money. As I left, she asked if I had a message for Beth; I said no, thanks.
Since the girls were not bothered by her demeanor, it seems that is not out of the norm. But that type of atmosphere was not what I had expected, and made me re-​think my plans. I emailed Beth, to cancel my remaining scheduled session. She replied that Luann had shared that I did not stay for my session, and asked if something happened, so I provided the above info.
Beth was supportive and apologetic, wrote that she appreciated the feedback, and would speak to LuAnn. That it is a requirement for all instructors to be friendly, kind and accommodating to all clients and this was unacceptable. If I decided that I would still like to practice Pilates, Beth would work with me to meet (or observe) a different instructor to get a feel for their style before booking. There was no offer to refund even part of the money I provided to Luann. Maybe part of it would have been credited to a future session?
I shared my Luann experience with some Pilates-​devotee friends. There was a consensus that some Pilates and/​or yoga instructors fancy themselves Rock Stars, and believe people should consider themselves lucky to work with them. If my Pilates-​regulars friends are getting a discounted price, like Groupon, they usually ignore an instructor with an attitude, consider the session as reformer rental time, and just complete the work-​out. If they are not getting a discount, they discuss the instructor with the facility manager. Since I am a newbie, they agreed with my choice to hand over the money and leave.
I did suggest that Beth update Luann’s photo on the web site to reflect what she currently looks like. It would not have changed what happened, but it would have been less confusing if I had been able to recognize the instructor. The website has the same photo, and still notes Luann as good with newbies.
My friends strongly encouraged me to post my experience, because it happened.

Being a Pilates teacher myself, I came to The Pilates Connection in a spur-​of-​the-​moment manner in hopes of getting in a refreshing well-​rounded PIlates workout under someone else’s guidance one morning.
Though hesitant, (due to my pickiness for taking Pilates classes given that I train myself most days and had only attended a handful of classes which were less than par throughout the years,) I decided to reserve one of the last spots in Beth’s class; the price was (is) right, and the prime location close to where I reside and easy street-​side parking sold me.
I was very pleased with Beth’s teaching; very intuitive, well-​balanced, and she made sure to pay attention to proper form of all attendees within class.
It was the first time I left a group class feeling refreshed, like I got a well-​rounded workout in, and I didn’t once get distracted seeing exercises being set up or executed improperly because Beth didn’t let that happen.
In later months (being pregnant) I appreciated Beth’s knowledge of how to modify for prenatal clients within a group setting — I love that you will find a handful of expecting mothers within classes at the Pilates Connection throughout different stages of their pregnancy!
Given my experience from that first class, I quickly went from client to colleague and always appreciate the experienced and fun team and clients at the Pilates Connection, as well as the professional, and knowledgeable environment.

I love the Pilates Connection. Beth, the owner is a great teacher and very responsive and professional. LuAnne, who teaches on weekends is also great. Classes are small. Highly recommended!

Here’s what i love about pilates: you can work out while lying down.
That’s right, I’m lazy.
I do not dig exercise. In fact, I hate it.
But I’m also vain and I want to look good!
Well, for me, this is the número uno place to go.
Just 3 times a week and my body was transformed into pure hotness.
It’s not bragging if it’s true, is it?!
And while cardio isn’t a part of pilates in general, the JUMP classes are where you totally can get your cardio on.
Someone before me used the word, outstanding, to describe Beth Trometer, and there really is not other word. She is a fantastic teacher (OK that’s another word) and this is her studio and it too, is fantastic. Outstanding.
She’s one of those people who can seamlessly do 117 things at once. So when she has 8 – 10 different clients in a class, with 8 – 10 different sets of restrictions and/​or levels of expertise, well, that’s a cinch for her. She knows just which modifications anyone might need at a given time, and she has us make them in such a cool, down-​to-​earth way that is all her own.
I took classes 3x a week until I was 7 months pregnant — after that I was just too huge to do much of anything. I also took classes before that as a non-​preggo gal. I just had my baby and can’t wait to get back at it soon!
Lastly, the studio is very mellow, lovely and immaculate… The pictures on here are old, it’s even nicer than what you see here! Cool tunes via Pandora play in the background and in no time, your 50 minutes are up and you’re out the door feeling great… and strong. The vibe is the opposite of the spazzed out frenetic vibe at some places, and I’m convinced you get better results.
I don’t write reviews on Unilocal except when I feel strongly about a place, but this place, and Beth herself, is so stellar, I just could not not write a review!

Beth is an outstanding teacher — especially in a group setting (I am sure with private clients she is the same! I just take group now), I appreciate her ability to teach each client in a unique way. No matter if you are a beginner or advanced, Beth caters to your specific level and adjusts the class to fit your needs so you get a great workout! I love her positive attitude!

Beth was amazing and I wish I could take her with me when I leave the area. She was able to work within my restricted range of motion and kept the workouts varied and challenging. I can think of very few other people who I would be happy to see at 9am but she was always upbeat. I can’t recommend her or her studio enough.

Best studio EVER!!! Prices are beyond reasonable for this area… I’ve done pilates for years and Beth has some special gift of transforming your body like no one else. I go 2 – 4 times a week, drink wine regularly, eat healthy for the most part (but do like candy at work), and still am comfortable in a bikini at 38!!! Hate giving this secret away but everyone needs to know…

I love this studio! Beth is a gifted and genuinely caring teacher. I signed up for some Pilates classes to get back into shape after the birth of my daughter. I was surprised at how fast I got stronger, more toned and my posture improved. Normally I hate core and ab work but Beth makes it interesting and fun. She creates a unique class every time and seems to have an unlimited repertoire of exercises and variations. Classes fly by very quickly. I also like that she gives me personalized instruction each class as I have some back and neck issues. Her jump classes are a great workout as well. I would recommend Pilates Connection to anyone looking for a great Pilates experience.
