Nice place that stands out even though it’s in the middle of a cluster of other wineries. The tasting room isn’t over the top like others, but is still nice(if a bit tucked away) and has a wonderful patio. The only bad part is the long narrow driveway. At 5000 cases a year, they aren’t as tiny as some neighbors but are by no means big. $ 10 tasting fee for 8 wines(although I did get a 9th ‘bonus’ wine too). Laura did my tasting, and was super friendly; I think she recognized me from a previous visit. While I was there, the tasting room manager also came over to chat a bit as well. I haven’t tried it myself, but I’ve heard good things about the lasagna lunches you can order in advance on certain weekends. The wines weren’t as young as I’m accustomed to; while several places are pushing out 2014 reds, their reds had a 2011 and 2012 on the menu. Good for them! Whites: The Viognier blend was OK, while the chardonnay was buttery. But the Petit Manseng had a nice honeysuckle finish to it. Reds: The 2012 Cab Franc had a tinny bit of jam and some pepper to it. The 2011 Petit Verdot blend was not ‘in your face’ strong, but did have a noticeable body. The 2013 Bordeaux style Raptor Red was OK. While not my style, I did think the«Stop For The Red Light» red was very fruity but still bold. The Catamount Run Red was Pinot Noir with 10% Merlot; too light bodied for me. They also had a port-style with a chocolate palate, which is unusual. But it wasn’t for me; I like my ports strong and this didn’t cut it. Sadly enough they didn’t 2012 Aerie Red, which I opened for Christmas and was a big hit. It might be for members only, but it’s worth asking about their future Malbec and Tannat. They’d been bottled but weren’t ready yet. If the Tannat hits the tasting room, I’m totally there. Regardless, I’d put this on the short-list of Markham or Delaplane wineries.

This place was my second winery I’ve visited in Virginia. I really like the place, how it’s hidden behind all the big beautiful trees. I came here with my bf and another couple a few weeks ago. The trees were changing colors and it was a beautiful site to see. We all did the wine tasting. The young lady who worked there was friendly and knowledgable. My fav wine was the Cabernet Franc. We bought a bottle and brought it outside by the fire pit to drink it with the food we brought. The only downside were the tons of lady bugs and other bugs flying around! I know lady bugs are harmless and they say it’s good luck if it lands on you but it startled me every time it flew around me. Nonetheless, we had a good time here!

The best thing about this winery was the view. Our wine pourer had just started and clearly knew NOTHING about the wines or the winery. She had no clue when we asked questions and told us nothing more than the name of the wine she was pouring. Did she even get training? Oh, did I mention she took her break during our pouring session? So, we had another girl pour a few wines for us who was less than personable and rushed through. Like with the other one, she told us the name of the wine and that was about it. The other girl returned from her break and finished our tasting session. She acted as if she would rather be anywhere else than there. Maybe she should get another job. I didn’t catch her name, but her personality left much to be desired. At least the pours were of a good amount… more than most and the tasting price was reasonable. They need more outdoor seating. The wines were just okay. I wasn’t impressed. The reds tasted watered down to me and my friend said the same. Finally, they should do something to improve the road leading to the tasting room. It’s one lane total(both directions), so no where to go if someone is coming toward you. It’s also very steep, so a bit scary and dangerous to drive mostly for people drinking, but also for the person just arriving having had no alcohol. I really wanted to like this winery and left disappointed. Again, the view is probably the best thing about this winery. A+ for that I guess.

We were recommended here by a friend, and I’m so glad we listened. Had a great fall afternoon at Naked Mountain entertaining my parents. The wine tasting was well priced and very good. The entire atmosphere was great — live music, fire pit, and plenty of room around the vineyard with Adirondack chairs and lots of beautiful fall colors. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun retreat!

**** 3 ½ Stars*** We went to Naked Mountain Winery to celebrate our friend’s birthday. They are dog friendly in the patio and outside picnic areas. You can’t bring your dogs into the tasting room, but the staff is accommodating. We decided to get two bottles of wine to have outside near a fire pit(We had two dogs in our group which is why we opted to sit outside). We had the Red Light which is a red blend and the Birthday Suit which is white wine blend. In addition to wine, we brought our own snacks to share. Naked Mountain is flexible about people bringing outside food but they do have food available for purchase. My friend purchased a trio of dips and pita chips. I loved how light the wines were and both wines were good blends of red and white. I particularly enjoyed the Red Light. A relaxing way to spend an afternoon, drinking wine with friends.

They have unique blends of both reds and whites that push the traditional ideas of VA wines. Their various offerings span the gamut of tastes and preferences.

Awesome winery. Great prices on real good reds and whites produced on the spot from their own grapes and some local grapes as well. Food parings were fantastic, cheese, meat and fruit made the wine tasting all that much better. Then to make the afternoon even more special we listened to the voice of Mark Clay playing great cover and original songs on his guitar. A really spectacular afternoon with great people having fun. No wine snobs here.

We have been to to this winery a handful of times in the past and overall have enjoyed it. The parking can be a pain when there is a lot of visitors, but it’s never been bad enough for us to leave. We enjoy the scenario as we sip wine and eat various meats and cheeses on the deck or in the back«barrel room»(when it’s too hot for the deck). They are dog friendly as advertised on their website. The visitor section of their site says«Woof woof! Bring your furry four-legged friends with you to the Mountain. Leashed dogs are welcome on our lawn and our deck.». Since we have three small dogs we can appreciate how hard it is to find an establishment that allows our furry little ones. Here’s the problem: they don’t enforce the«lawn and deck» portion of their invitation. We would never allow our dogs around food or drink; who wants to find a pooch hair in their food! Apparently Naked Mountain doesn’t have an issue with this though(see picture). While we were there this last time a number of dogs were roaming around inside both the main tasting area and the barrel room tasting area. Since we were in the same areas trying to enjoy our food and wine we were a bit disgusted by the obvious disregard for their own rules. It was so blatant in fact that they never even flinched when this dog owner placed his scruffy mutt on the tasting bar. He remained there for the 15 minutes it took us to leave out of disgust. We may try this place one more time to see if they have corrected this mistake. I hope they do, as you may be a dog lover, but it doesn’t mean you like consuming their fur…

Semi-dog friendly meaning while dogs are not allowed in the tasting room, they are welcomed on the patio and will accommodate tastings outside. Just walk on in every time you need your glass full and staff knows what your drinking. $ 10pp tasting fee for 8 wines. We ordered a pretty impressive platter of assorted cheese(gouda, brie, and another delectable cheese I wish I knew what it was), candied nuts, grapes, and rosemary crisps. Delicious platter and well worth it. Of the wines we tasted: 2014 Aerie White– light and crisp steel white 2013 Petit Manseng– fresh and crisp 2013 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay. If you love oaky chardonnays, this one is for you. I couldn’t resist but to bring home a bottle. 2014 Chardonnay /Riesling– light with a hint of sweetness 2013 Catamount Run Red– light and earthy red 2012 Cabernet Franc– earthy, peppery, bold red 2011 Petit Verdot– smoky and full bodied red 2013 Vine Ripened Vidal– lovely sweet white dessert wine Soar II– port wine great with chocolate Wooden rustic tasting room with long bar. Great to sit out on the patio overlooking the lush greenery. Drink Naked! A-OK in my book!

The Naked Winery has a great, friendly staff, they are dog friendly, and they have a wonderful back room where you can host events. They also have a good selection of wine for VA. Please note — this review is not comparing the wine to CA or French wine. Otherwise, I’d probably give this place 2 stars for the actual wine. I guess I’m rating this place on the overall atmosphere and its neighboring competitors. Naked Winery have a pretty good membership deal. As a member, all you have to do is buy a case of wine within a year(which is discounted), and you get free tastings for up to 4 people whenever you go and discounts on any additional wines you get. You also get invited to their special dinner events. My friend is a member so I have no complaints when visiting Naked Winery! My only issue is that parking could be a challenge on busy days. The drive way to the parking area is very narrow so you have to be really careful when making those turns heading in or out of the winery.

Very nice place, if you don’t mind the drive. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Their Petit Manseng was not too sweet and complex. All around they had a great variety of white and red. I would be happy to go back.

Came here for a private event, and absolutely loved it here. The whole place is beautiful, quiet and charming. Sampled a few wines and took home a bottle of the Chardonnay/Riesling. Definitely plan on coming back for the lasagna lunch or one of the other events they host and taking home a bottle of red. Seth is very knowledgeable and passionate about his work and definitely an asset as an employee.

Gorgeous views on a big deck out back! This was probably my favorite winery on the Delaplane winery tour. The host could have been a bit warmer but the wine was my favorite. Our favorite was their Chardonnay/Riesling blend, which coincidentally is the only of their grapes that they do grow on site. Great blend. We also bought a bottle of the Raptor Red, which is a blend of Cab Franc, Cab Sav, Tannat, and Merlot… probably the best red I tasted that whole day. They have a fireplace and an intimate tasting room overlooking the mountains. Definitley make a point to visit Naked Mountain!

I did not love Naked Mountain’s wine, but I did love the service, the view and the venue. The grounds are gorgeous with lots of trees, a small lake, and rolling hills. Inside looks like a ski chalet with comfy couches and exposed beams. Outside had a fireplace to sit around. My group and I took advantage of the fall foliage and walked around for a while. Tastings were $ 10 for 10 wines. I didn’t like any enough to buy them, but they weren’t bad. This seems to be a real family place — lots of children. Our waitress was very knowledgeable, super friendly and liberal with the pours(always appreciated). As a warning — the road to Naked Mountain is a one way road with a blind turn. There is a sign that says to honk before taking it, and I suggest you do. With some buzzed drivers around, better safe than sorry.

Conveniently located near Sky Meadows State Park, this is a lovely winery for a post-hike visit. The tasting fee is a reasonable $ 10 and you get to sample about 10 of their wines. The setting could not be prettier, with great views from the patio and the inviting wood-paneled tasting room. It was busy when we visited, but the staff managed the crowds nicely. This winery also boasts a sprawling lawn, complete with picnic benches, for those who want to get away from the crowded tasting room to relax with their wine. As for the wines, the focus here seems to be offering something for everyone. I enjoyed their drier whites and a few of the reds. The Petit Manseng is a lovely pick for warm weather, with floral and tropical notes. The Chardonnay is another bottle that came home with me — light on the oak and pleasantly creamy. Lastly, the Raptor Red is a medium-bodied red that promises to go over well at dinner parties. There are a lot of sweet, light options — not my favorite, but those seem to be crowd-pleasers. Generally, I’m not a fan of dessert wines, but their port-style«Soar» was very nice, with deep caramel/raisin notes. Definitely worth a visit!

I had similar issues here as with many other local wineries I recently visited. I guess Virginia’s just not suit for producing bold and full-bodied wines. Although the space at Naked Mountain is comfy(there are couches in the tasting room) and they sell a bunch of interesting merchandise, I didn’t like any of the«Drink Naked» wines. I found them to be bland or too sweet. We had a nice chat with the girl who poured our wines, and the outdoor patio seemed lovely on a nice day. They’re open during the week, which is also a plus.

Stopped by today with friends after some berry picking close by. They have some great wines both white and red. Being more of a red guy I was very impressed with two or three they had. Their port was also very good. I did see some of the food they have available and it looked great. The scenery is just fantastic at this place.
