Lake Alpine, one of our favorite destinations for kayaking, fishing, hiking, and just getting away from it all! Caution: There are limits to the types of boats you can put on the lake and this is not a water skiing lake. Beautiful white stones are jutting up out of the water that act as sunning spots for lake goers. Don’t be surprised if you see an eagle swooping down to get his fill of trout. The lake is surrounded by alpine mountains and it’s quite breath taking. There are campgrounds, a general store(pricey so stock up before you go) and a pretty nice restaurant with a patio area plus full bar. This is a fun day trip when you are camping at Calaveras Big Trees or if you are staying in Murphys, Arnold or Avery. They’ve had quite a bit of snow this year so don’t be surprised if you decide to make the journey in May to find snow at the shore and attached to the rocks I mentioned earlier. Oh, almost forgot, lots of nice beach areas to play and lounge and a small marina where you can rent small aluminum fishing boats and kayaks-visit the website to make sure they are open if you need to rent a boat.
