Sandwiches here are great! Everything is fresh. Nice treat to get ice cream after.

This was a perfect stop on the way bak to Sac. Small little shop with an amazing patio out front. Huge menu of sammies, that all sound fabulous! We had the #7 and the tuna with avo. The Italian dressing on 7 is home made and really delicious! Tons of meat just bursting out of the bread. My tuna salad was SO good! Also made in house. Perfectly pickly. I am a picky sandwich eater and both of these sandwiches were really very very good. The boy behind the counter was sweet and helpful and the sandwich lady worked hard to get everyone’s orders out in a timely manner. If you are in town, stop here! You won’t regret it! Yummy Dreyer’s ice cream for dessert too, if you are up for it!

Excellent. Had a hot pastrami on sourdough roll. One if the best I’ve ever had. Ice for dessert was flavorful and perfect for a afternoon treat. Most of Markleeville closes for the winter so call ahead if this on your destination route. Worth going out of the way for.

Really great sandwiches. And I’m not just saying that because we came in not expecting much. These sandwiches would be great anywhere. Piled high with fresh, quality ingredients. Lots of creative veggie options. Bread was basic but still good. Highly recommend the veggie sammy that came with the soy baco bits and the one that comes with the Italian dressing. Particularly the latter. My daughter loved the duckies in the bath.

Four of us ate here and the sandwiches were all delicious. Roast beef dip, Tuna, and turkey were all great! Very friendly to tourists. Love the rubber duckies in the bathroom.

Amazing sandwiches! Great bread with good potions. Nice people. Much more like traditional deli sandwiches rather than the garbage you get at Quizno’s or Subway’s. This was a real treat!!!

Returned July 2011. Service was friendly and quick; sandwiches were good.

This place is not fancy at all. It’s cramped inside but the outside deck is really nice. That’s OK, though, because it’s a place with no pretensions of being anything but a sandwich joint and on that count, they delivered. I had that roast beef with horseradish on a french roll. I worry about ordering beef in such places because it’s often dry, tough, and stringy. Theirs was tender and flavorful with none of that try-to-take-one-bite-and-the-whole-pile-of-meat-slides-from-the-sandwich thing. The horseradish was plentiful and potent enough but not painful. The roll was tender. One thing to note is that I had a half sandwich and that was plenty for me.

Love, love, love this place. There is nothing like a delicious Deli sandwich to remind me how much I really love the place I grew up in. Markleeville. Everytime I walk in there it brings my back to when I was a younger. It still smells the same and the quality of the food has remained the same. I love to see Deanne and warren smiling and always working hard. Never to hard so that they dont have time to chat and give hugs out. I always get the turkey sandwich with cranberry on honey wheat berry. It has been my staple for years. I always try to save room for ice cream but never do because I cant seem to put the colossal sized sandwich down. I love sitting on the porch and watching the little town around.

I am not sure of the three 5-star reviews. I ate here today with a group of four and we all agreed this was not a good dining experience. While the atmosphere is charming, the food is not. We all ordered sandwiches: the bread is pretty mediocre – gummy and not flavorful. My tuna salad was not memorable, quite standard all around. The worst part of the meal: the soap. By far one of the worst bowls of soup ever. This was homemade clam chowder. The comments from or table include: watery; salty; lacking flavor; bad potatoes; fishy; chunks of bacon. It really was many many rungs below a canned clam chowder such as Progresso. Here is the kicker: we mentioned to the server that we didn’t like the soup. She didn’t say sorry, or perhaps offer us some cookies as a consolation; she just said, «I’ll get it out of your way.» That is a bad way to run a business. Our tab: $ 37. For the reviewers who have written, «This place would rate high any where,» there is simply no way to support this statement. Talk to me about the quality of the ingredients – the bread, meat, soups, veggies – and tell me that this would rate with Lucca’s in the Bay Area. No way!

A cute little sandwich/ice cream shop combo. Good sandwiches, feels homey(and nice and breezy on a hot day). Nice porch out front. Reasonable prices. Cute duck in the tub in the bathroom. This place would rate high any where. However, in Markleeville, this place is off the charts! As has probably been said before, there ain’t squat in Markleeville. Ok, maybe there’s squat, but not much. There is a general store that sells prepackaged sandwiches, another restaurant that seems more bar oriented, another restaurant that looks closed and this place. And a single pump gas station. And I’m not too sure there is an ATM either, so plan accordingly. Anyway, I really don’t remember seeing this place the last time I came through here about five years ago, but the owner says that they have been there for like 15 years or something. Check it out!

As I bounced through the mountains over from Alpine and a long trip, I decided the hot springs at Grover State Park would help heal some sore muscles. After getting things set up, I wandered back into Markleeville for some food to fill a hungry stomach after the Pacific Crest Trail made me hunger. Unfortunately, Wednesday isn’t a day to get some food in Markleeville. Whoda thunk? I had to settle with just a couple drinks at the saloon. Well, just having a couple drinks can sometimes be better than getting a meal. The locals, who were very friendly, unanimously keyed me in on the Deli across the street and their sandwiches. Now, I didn’t take Chad’s advice on the attempt of downing the #7, which must have about a pound of meat on it. Nonetheless, the sandwich I had fulfilled expectations and was just shy of a pound, I’m certain. Lots of friendly faces and a fun atmosphere. The price is very right and you even get a tasty bonus pepperoncini. If I am ever in Markleeville(other than Wednesday), I know where I will be eating(and possibly staying for ice cream too). Don’t sell it short just because it’s in a very small town, it’s a great stop for any place.

On the road to Tahoe we got sidetracked at the possibility of hot springs. Drove down to Markleeville’s Grover Hot Springs and turned right back around. That wasn’t a hot spring! That was a swimming pool with stinky water! It was packed with kids and families. Not what I had imagined. Soooo we ventured into Markleeville for some food instead. The Deli served us up a sandwich bigger than my head(although I do have a small head). It was delicious, extremely delicious and huge and cheap. I’m actually craving it right now. This place is not to be confused with the average hole in the wall stop in a town of something like 250 people. They not only have good food, they have variety. You have to remember this isn’t your average small town, this is small town California, not Indiana. So of course they have soy milk and Odwalla drinks and tons of other alternatives and they recycle. The short review: 2nd sandwich of the day and by far the best sandwich I’ve had in a while. Shared it with my husband it was so big. Everything was fresh and delicious and the staff was extremely friendly. Skip the hot springs, go for the food.
