Our family stopped into this store because it looked interesting from the outside. It is crammed full of books. Most are reasonably priced. Many are not in that great condition so if you’re looking for quality, you’ve got to get lucky. Happily, I was lucky and spent almost $ 75 on books, most priced to sell. I have a feeling that if you ask nicely he would even lower the price on a higher priced book(just a guess on my part). We need more stores like this one, so if you’re passing by this way, it’s worth your time to look around. You could get lucky and find some real nice bargains. This could be a four star rating too, just because a lot of the books are bent up, but like said, I managed to still fill up a box. So five stars.

My favorite used bookstore. The owner’s philosophy appears to be to price his inventory to move quickly — and so it does. The owner can often be seen sitting near the entrance wearing his apron and with pencils in hand pricing books just as his dad did before him. No computer assisted pricing on virtually all of his stock. Love the place!

I grew up in the area and moved away long ago. I think about this bookstore all the time, and how much I wish I could go home, just to go there. I have so many beautiful old books in my collection thanks to this little gem of a shop.

I was zooming down the road the other day when I passed this place, and made a U-turn, not knowing what kind of bookstore I’d expect inside.(The outside does have a log cabin-y feel, and the books displayed there are mass-market paperbacks, romance novels, and National Geographics) I was very happy I stopped in, the inside is crammed crammed crammed with books, but still well organzied, and with lots of unexpected things to discover. In general, it’s more Fannie Flagg than Flaubert, but the store is chock full of books and *extremely* reasonably priced.

I can’t believe that there is only one other review for this business nor that I had not writen one before. This is a *great* used bookstore in the most unlikely place(I guess Marlborough is just full of surprises!) Inventory is always changing so it’s worth going often. Prices are just great. My shelves at home are well stocked from this place. I do own a kindle but few things compare with holding a well loved, old book. Homestead is the place to get ‘em.

Homestead Bookshop is located next to the Shell station and tucked behind the very famous Doug’s Hot Dog Van. This used bookstore is well stocked with thousands of old books, some books over 100 years old. Most of the books/periodicals sold here are 1990s or older, so the condition of the books vary from good to well used. The prices here are very reasonable, many books under $ 5. The inside of the store is a good size with the tall book shelves/rows spaced very close together. They carry the popular genres including fiction, non-fiction, children’s, novels, biography, history, travel, cooking, health, local guides, and more. There’s also a bargain table out in front of the store, selected, paperbacks are 8 for $ 1. I spent almost a good hour here over the weekend, just browsing around the store. The books are organized well by genre, but the titles are mish-mashed so it took some time to browse through the books. Many children’s books in stock were printed from my generation back in the day, so the fond memories of Dr. Seuss, Richard Scarry, and the Berenstein Bears were reoccurring. Also in the travel books area, they have old books from all over the globe with many books on California, Alaska, and the Arctic. I found an old beat up Thomas Guide(LA County) from 1992 for $ 5.95, but I put it back since I have a newer edition in my ride. Some surprises here is that they carry quite a few old yearbooks(various grade school, high school, and college) that people didn’t want. I found a big yearbook for $ 4(I won’t name the NH secondary school) of one of my coworker’s photo when he was a junior several years ago. Small world, hehe! I also spotted an old MEPA(Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act) study for only $ 3 and I know the consultants who wrote it. In all, I spent just under $ 20 for mostly old travel guides and a few old children’s books. I will definitely have to return when I have more time since I’ll never know what I’ll find here.
