I’ve seen RPM driving around servicing other houses by me so I gave them a call for a heat pump that wasn’t cooling. I’ve worked with Union Hvac service people in philly under a general contractor so I had an idea of how a unit should be troubleshot. Anyways, the service person showed up, I explained the problem and he went to take a look. Basically he took his ‘sniffer’ device to the outside unit, tapped it around, it beeped, he came back in and said the unit was leaking. He asked me if I wanted some freon and I said no, you just said my unit is leaking. I asked him about repairing/troubleshooting and that wasn’t even an option for him. I told him to take a look at the indoor fan unit since there is the standard show up charge and he’s only been here for 5 mins. Same thing with the indoor unit, made his tool beep, and informed me of same result. Never put his gauges on to actually check the unit running, but offered to have the office call for sale of a new install. Afterwards I opened up the indoor unit because the panel was on crooked. He put the new 20×20×1″ filter I had laying in the room into the wrong slot so that it was jammed/folded into place. Nice work.
