We attempted to eat here one other time when we were in Marquette, but it was packed. Plan on that if you want to stop by on a weekend. We planned ahead this time at got there at 4pm and were seated immediately(all the booths were filled less than 30 minutes after we got there!). The waitress was friendly and attentive. She quickly brought the water we requested and refilled without us having to ask. We ordered the fried green tomatoes appetizer to start. I liked the gluten free crust and the tomatoes were perfectly tangy. The price for 4 small slices was almost $ 8 which I think is steep, I wouldn’t order them again. Our entrées were the blackened catfish(comes with 2 hush puppies and one side — we chose the vinegar coleslaw) and the crawfish étouffée served over rice. The catfish was cooked perfectly so it melted in our mouths, the blackening wasn’t overpowering either. The hush puppies were ultra crisp on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. I found the vinegar coleslaw to be too sweet for what I expect from a vinegar base. The waitress warned us that the étouffée was one of their«spiciest» dishes. I assured her that I had tried it in New Orleans and enjoyed it. Folks, that dear girl obviously has no palate for«spice». It had a very slight heat that builds as you eat it, but I wouldn’t call it «spicy». That aside, I was very impressed with the amount of crawfish meat in the dish. The étouffée I had in New Orleans was a light almost cream color. This was dark like they used black beans as a base. Regardless, we both enjoyed it. We would like to go back again sometime when we are back in Marquette.

I can’t believe I had never been to the Lagniappe before NYE. I didn’t really know what to expect I had heard mixed reviews from friends and coworkers. I was very pleasantly surprised upon entering; the décor was fun, the service was friendly/fast, and the ambience was great. We had an appetizer of ½ lb. of peel and eat shrimp cooked in wonderful creole spices and butter — fantastic. For the main dish I had the crawfish etoufee and my bf had shrimp and grits. Everything was really great and the portions were gigantic. The menu is a little pricier than other restaurants in the area but you can really tell that the seafood is extremely fresh — so you get what you pay for. I would definitely come here again and maybe try the gator! ;)

Wow– seriously a hidden gem in the heart of Marquette– You go down a creepyish stairway to a small entrance which makes the front door hidden, my wife and I looked at each other like: um– where’s the door lol. Seating is weirdly comfortable yet odd at he same time. But the best is the staff and food!!! Seriously friendly and the food is absolutely perfect. I have never had a better jumbalya in my life. My wife had a spicy pasta and was seriously pleased with it but she and I were both amazed with the kids Mac and cheese– tasted fresh and home-made, not that microwave Kraft stuff most places serve. I will be marking this as my new favorite cold day warm you up from inside and satisfy all your cravings spot.

Great food here! You may need to wait depends on what time you arrive here, but surely worth the waiting! We ordered a seafood risotto and a pasta(I forget the name). Both are so good. We were not hungry at all, but we finished them all since it’s so good. The seafood risotto is the best I’ve had in a while. I’m so surprised to find such good risotto in a little town like here. There were generous portion of seafood in it, the cheese and rice just work together so perfectly.

Excellent food, excessive portions. Awesome ambience, definitely not what you’d expect from the outside. The owner was walking around speaking with tables, and the server was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back next time I’m in Marquette.

I love this place! I try to go every time I’m in town(about once a year). It’s a gem in the heart of downtown Marquette, serving authentic Cajun/Creole food, complete with a Voodoo bar. This last time, my friends and I ordered a few appetizers to share, along with some specialty drinks. We had the alligator bites, fried garlic cheddar grit cakes, and the shrimp boil with sausage. The grit cakes were by far my favorite! They are covered in an amazing cheese cream sauce. They have a selection of po’ boys and a huge menu with classics like jambalaya, muffaletta, étouffée, and red beans and rice. We also had a few cocktails, including the hurricane, spicy Bloody Mary and a mojito! All were great and were presented well. I am always amazed that this place exists in the Upper Peninsula. I wish that I could eat here every day. It’s a bummer that cajun food is so rare, especially in Michigan.

Lagniappe is a great restaurant. The food has awesome flavor. I have had a lot of the menu items and they all have been great. The amount of food is plentiful and the prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is quaint though a bit dark. The food is fresh prepared and has awesome aroma. The seafood bisque is outstanding except it is a bit too spicy for my wife. She loves the bisque but the spice level is too high depending on the night. She gets the bisque every time and gives it a try. I love hot spicy food and usually don’t notice things that are spicy to my wife because of her low threshold but have to admit the bisque is a tad spicy. If they kicked it down a notch, I think they would have more takers. My wife says Lagniappe has the best Cosmo in town. It has excellent flavor and balance. Be sure to ask for The Lagniappe Cosmo. I really like the Sweet Tea they make. It has mint in it which has a nice spin.

Best cajun food outside of Louisiana. Live music(great band), and superb wait staff. Had to wait 20 minutes for a table. It was worth the wait.

First time at this eatery. Overall a pleasant time with good food. The gumbo ya ya was delicious – dark roux with overall good flavor. My wife enjoyed the chicken creole. Fried green tomatoes appetizer was not too heavily breaded and had a nice spicy sauce. Waitress was friendly and helpful(Lily). My wife was ecstatic over the special dessert/-bread pudding with blueberries and lemon sauce. The kicker was the sauce but five star dessert overall. We would come back for more po boys too.

Start with Wow. Then don’t stop… continue and finish with Wow. I thought it was amazing that a restaurant with a decent number of reviews still maintained a 5 Star rating. So we went. Now I know why. This place absolutely nails it. If you think you might be anywhere near Marquette and have even the thought of some Creole/Cajun flavor, this place will not disappoint. They even had some live Zydeco music moving the place to the beat of the rhythm in the kitchen. Hats off to those who spent the time to master their culinary skills and then another sincere thank you for bringing them back home with you to da UP. Laissez les bons temps rouler

The most consistent restaurant in Marquette. I’ve been dining here for years and have had maybe 1 bad plate. That’s amazing. The menu is huge and almost all of it is awesome. Good beer list. The ambience is fun and they often have live music.

I’ve been enjoying meals at the Lagniappe for several years now. I’ve tried everything from the Crawfish Etouffe and Bayou Bouillabaisse to the Steak Grillades with Grit Cakes and the Low Country Shrimp and Grits(my personal favorite) along with many others in-between. My favorite appetizers are the Baked Seafood Fondeaux and the Boudin Balls — they are both out of this world. It’s been almost 10 years and I have yet to be disappointed. So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard they were adding some new Brunch dishes to their menu! Chicken & Waffles. Biscuits & Gravy. Eggs Benedict. Those descriptions alone don’t do much to excite the taste buds, but the menu that was posted on the Lagniappe Facebook page told a completely different story. «Classic Southern fare of crisp malted waffled and Memphis fried chicken breast with honey butter and syrup» «Warm buttermilk biscuits adorned by made to order sausage gravy from the flavors of our in house made sausages» «You’ve had the traditional version everywhere, but here we have an always changing eggs benedict left to the delectable creativity of our Chef De Cuisine» Add to it three other delicious sounding dishes, including one of which is known in NOLA for it’s great hangover curing properties, how could I not check it out — other than the fact that I love the food there. I’ve only had Chicken & Waffles one other time. It was back in 2002 when I was traveling to Tarpon Springs, Florida to pick up my little sister to bring her back to Michigan. I stopped at a little Mom & Pop diner shortly after crossing over into Tennessee from Kentucky. I had never had Chicken & Waffles before, and there was something about it that sounded pretty darned good to me, so I tried it out. It was delicious! And ever since I have had fond recollections of that dish wishing I could try it again. Today was that day! I had considered doing the Eggs Benedict because I liked the idea of being at the mercy of the cook, but I just couldn’t pass up the Chicken & Waffles, even though I was a bit worried. Although the Lagniappe has never done me wrong, I didn’t want to be disappointed. Boy. Was a silly to think that would happen! I was served a beautifully browned and crisp waffle, which when eaten was deliciously warm and soft inside. I don’t know what makes a waffle«malted» but I love it. It adds such a different depth of flavor compared to your normal waffle that I don’t know that I will ever be able to eat a waffle done any other way. This is how they are supposed to taste. Topped with the honey butter and syrup, I almost felt like I was having a decadent desert for breakfast. Then there was the deep fried chicken breast. As most people probably know, chicken breasts are easy to overcook so they end up dry. I usually avoid them when eating out just because it’s always a crap shoot. This was not the case with this chicken breast. It was PERFECTLY cooked — moist and tender with just the slightest hint of Tobasco sauce. The crispy, crunchy, savory breading on the chicken was a wonderful contrast to the sweetness of the syrup. I had intended to only eat half of the dish and save the rest for later, but that was not how things turned out. I ate every single wonderful, tantalizing bite. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have a local establishment tackle such a down home dish, far removed from its original region, and do such a wonderful job at it! Once again, the Lagniappe does not disappoint! It says a lot about a restaurant — the owners, cooks and wait staff — when they can consistently put out great food and great service, no matter what you try from the menu and no matter what night you visit. I can’t wait to go back!

Just fantastic~! Such an unexpected gem. From the ambience to the effective martinis(* watch for that street car) to the tantalizing menu, I cannot express how delicious the food was except that I went there twice for dinner in the four days that I was there. And for a foodie always wanting to try something new, thats a huge compliment A coworker and I dined here and we loved it very much. We got the oysters for appetiziers — they are fresh, large, sumptuous and hit the spot. The entrees where equally phenomenal if not more. I had the Bayou Bouillabaisse. It was mouthwatering. The flavors were great– t the perfect amounts of spice and savoury flavour without being too overpowering. The portions were large so better bring your appetite. I had a few bites of my coworkers’ meal too– she ordered the Jambalaya and it was scrumptious. The andouille sausage, rice, and everything else that went into it was fantastic. It’s definitely a spot worth visiting out here. Fresh fish, great flavous, potent drinks – can’t go too wrong with that

When your craving good Cajun Creole food, you wouldn’t think you could find it in Marquette, MI. However, you would be wrong. Lagniappe serves amazing spicy cajun creole food that will leave you full and more than satisfied. Chef Don Durley has been tantalizing Marquette area taste buds since 1983. He has over 40 years of experience and you can taste it in the food. Lagniappe has been open since 2006. As you walk in, you see a big open dining area. We ordered salad and their Signature Seafood Bisque. The soup tasted amazing and had a little heat that wasn’t over powering. For our entrees, we got the Vegetarian Risotto that can also be made vegan, and the Crab Cake Flat Bread Sandwich. What is great about this restaurant is you can request the spiciness level of the dish on a 1 – 10 scale. 1 – 2 is a little spicy, 3 is medium and anything over 4 you just taste hot. We decided to try 2 and 3, however we love spicy food, so next time we will try level 4. Following up this great meal we had dessert, which in this case was a lemon drop martini. The martini was mixed to perfection, which was not to sweet and not to sour. It was a great drink to finish up the meal. Check out the upstairs store where Lagniappe sells all of their house made seasonings as well as other products they prepare in-house. Cheers, Jordan & Marks
