I really, really wanted to like this place. I’ve been debating going for a while and finally stopped in. I looked at the menu and decided to get the ½ and ½ with soup and a Caesar salad. Well, the cashier told me they couldn’t make that salad. Okay… it’s a salad how can you not make that? I assumed they must have been out of the dressing or something. So I order the soup with the chicken salad sandwich. Well they couldn’t make that either. I continued to go through the menu until FINALLY I landed on the tuna salad sandwich and was told that they had that. Apparently, their freezer was broken so they were unable to make certain things? If that’s the case then that would be frustrating, I understand. I felt terrible for the cashier who couldn’t keep up with everything that was unavailable. I did overhear that they did, in fact, have chicken salad but at that point I didn’t care. The woman who ordered after me had the same issue but she was charged for food and then told they didn’t have it after the fact. Yikes. The soup is literally kept in giant tubs that is just poured into the cups and it tastes that way. The coleslaw was dry dry dry. In my attempts to just get something ordered I failed to realize that my sandwich came on dark rye, which I do not like at all. The bread is dry and gross. The tuna is very good though, I pretty much just ate that with a fork off the bread. The portions are large but not very tasty so that plus the hassle was not worth it. Maybe I will give this place another try to see if this all really was because of a broken freezer.

Felt robbed when we left. Dry inedible bread, inedible romaine ribs in the salad and cold grilled cheese. The place has no pleasant deli aromas as a traditional deli should. It is nothing more than a high priced poorly remodeled soup kitchen with mediocre soup. Will not go back nor would I recommend the place,

I just order the chicken sandwich which was maybe 2 – 3 oz of chicken so the smallest sandwich I have ever received. The chicken itself had a weird chewy texture and tasted almost not like chicken. I could’ve made a better sandwich at home and saved $ 10. I don’t recommend.

This Jew has died and gone to corned beef heaven. Tons of food with great taste for not much money. I highly recommend it for anyone that values a good corn beef.

Soup tasted ls it was from the can. Sandwich meat was really bad tasting. Hamburger tasted like it was fresh but cheaper meat mix. I wouldn’t go back. Don’t waste your hard earned money.

Wow. Thought I’d give this a shot since good delis are hard to find up here. Guess I need to keep looking. Ordered a pastrami sandwich that the cashier said«was big enough to share.» It ended up as two huge bread sandwiches with at the most about 3 oz of pastrami split between so much bread we ended up throwing two pieces of it away. Even combining the meat onto one sandwich resulted in a paltry portion. I’m thinking this had to be a mistake. There’s no way you could be successful charging $ 8 for such a miniscule amount of meat. I know this is ‘Merica and we expect big portions, and I don’t need a pound of meat on a sandwich, but a decent value for my money would be nice. I won’t be back.

We are from Southeast Wisconsin and were touring the UP on our motorcycle this weekend and decided to have lunch at the New York Deli. I had the best reuben EVER and my husband absolutely loved his turkey sandwich-I can’t remember what it was called but it was their special of the day. This was seriously amazing food and we both highly recommend. Met some very nice people, too, while we were eating. The only downside is it is sooooo far away! Enjoy, Marquette… you are very blessed to have this deli in your town!

Yum :) They have good food here. For $ 7.99, I had half a sandwich, soup and coleslaw. Not a lot of room for many people to eat in, but it’s quite cozy. Soups included chicken noodle, matzo ball, and tomato basil cream. Some menu samples: COLDSANDWICHES: Roast Turkey $ 6.99 Turkey on light rye with mustard. Chicken Salad $ 5.99 Celery, red onion, mayo on light rye. Contemporary $ 4.99 Mozz cheese, red onion, mixed greens, tomato, cucumber and garlic mayo on dark rye. HOTSANDWICHES: Lake Superior Whitefish $ 6.99 breaded & grilled, served w/lettuce, tomato and lime mayo. Caprese $ 5.49 light rye, fresh mozz, pesto and sliced tomato. Corned Beef $ 7.99 kosher-style corned beef from Sy Ginsberg, mustard on light rye. Philly Cheese Steak $ 8.99 thinly sliced roast beef with cheedar cheese(peppers and onions optional) They also serve burgers and salads too.

Great pastrami. Note that since Kait’s review below, I believe the place has changed ownership/management. I’m a pastrami fan and used to eat it(too much) at good delis in Chicago. I’ve lived in a a lot of places and I had not found good pastrami in a metro area smaller than KC. Until here. I actually tried the sandwich here when I interviewed for a job at NMU, and believe it or not, the pastrami was a sign to me that Marquette is a special place(that’s not the only reason I moved here!). The other sandwiches and soups are good too. Portion sizes are a bit small(compared to Chicago).

I’ve been going to the N.Y. Deli for 10+ years. For what it’s worth… The location has moved(for those who know where the original Border Grill was). It’s now on the corner of Washington and 7th St. AND… It’s under new management.(If that was a concern…) I think everyone has their«favorites» here. Tomato basil soup? Mmmm. My mom and I came here together when I was in town recently. In addition to my favorite pasta, I also got bumbleberry pie. What’s that you ask? Well, it’s a delicious mix of several berries all in one pie. Very good indeed. :)
Even though this location is still small… I like that it has more out door seating. Also, the parking lot is more convenient.

Some of the food is good, some is very good but you have to put it within the context that Marquette does not have any good Italian restaurants so it’s not that tough to be considered good. I think the biggest detraction to the food is the owner, Don Curto. He is a loud mouth blow hard more interested in his self promotion than actually making guests welcome and maintaining food quality. If you dare sit at his«Nickel Millionaires» table in the front(reserved for those who Don thinks are the power brokers of Marquette, you’ll quickly experience how nasty this man with a big case of little man’s syndrome can really be. His attitude alone is enough for me to haul out a cookbook and make better pasta puttanesca than he could ever dream of. Save your money, buy produce at the Marquette Food Co-Op and dine in!
