This is is my third time to Portside during visits to my daughter at school. We made our RSVP at were seated promptly. I let the waitress know we were there to celebrate and she treated us like family. All of my visits have been great but last night she went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and special. The food was also great had two appetizers the breadsticks with homemade cream cheese topping and the tater tots which were both very good. We all had combination plates of scallops, shrimp, steak and crab which were all amazing. We didn’t have room for dessert but took a slice of cheese cake to go which we shared today. The waitress made sure to add the toppings into to box which was much appreciated. Great food and service keep it up Portside you guys are consistently great and last night was amazing. You took our special occasion and made us feel special. Thank you…

Portside is great! Happy Hour from 3:30 — 6:00 has $ 2.50 drafts ALL Michigan brewed beers. They have some great selections right now; Keewenaw Widowmaker Black Ale, Red Jacket Amber Ale, Short’s something, Upper Hand Lager, a nice Pecan Cinnamon Cider, Ore Dock Good Tidings, and a couple others I can’t remember at the moment. I tried their pizza last night for the first time ever — it was really yummy. Shared an order of their famous breadsticks, of course, and a friend got a plate of their giant nachos. Sadly moving away from Marquette in a couple weeks but I will always return to this place when I come visit for work and play. :)

I now live on the other side of the US and still think about this place. The nachos are literally the best nachos I have ever had. I kid you not when I say I have dreams about them. The other food is nice to, everyone I went with always went for different things. Happy hour is also the best in town. Gets a little crowded, but its an opportunity to make new friends. When I visit I will defintly go back to it.

I’ve never seen such incompetent bartenders at a supposedly nice establishment before. I ask the bartender to recommend a wine and her response was«I don’t drink wine so I don’t know.» What an idiot. I told her it was like a librarian not knowing how to recommend a book. This monument to incompetence then says«I don’t feel like serving you,» and walks away. What a joke! There’s been plenty of times when I’ve deserved to be cut off but this was not one of them. I explained to the manager that I was not rude or vulgar in any way. His response was«I stand behind my bartender.» Maybe train them in addition to standing behind them. In conclusion, there are many other places in downtown Marquette to frequent other than the Portside. I suggest going to one that teaches their employees to respect their customers.

Ate lunch here after doing the local Farmer’s Market. It was hot out and humid and a beer and a burger was just the ticket. I had the British Burger and the Mrs. Had the Crab and Shrimp Salad. The salad was very nice and the crab was good. The shrimp were however, nice size but had that watery just thawed out watery taste and feel. Grilled shrimp would be the ticket!!! The salad was served with a nice piece of garlic bread. All in all a nice salad. Now, the burger on the other hand was a surprise. As I said I ordered the British Burger advertised as a burger with lots of bacon and swiss cheese. When it arrived it looked great and was served with raw onion, tomatoe, and lettuce. Where is the bacon I ask??? It was crumbled bacon under the cheese which was a disappointment. Was expecting some slices… but…it had bacon flavor and crispy bacon crumbles under the creamy swiss cheese. I am a Ketchup-aholic. I put ketchup on everything, especially burgers. When our meal arrived, I was searching for the bacon and got sidetracked and forgot about the Ketchup. I assembled my burger with the condiments and started eating. Enjoying my burger and telling my wife How good it was, after I was half-way through with my burger, I realized I forgot ketchup!!! I NEVER forget Ketchup. Ketchup goes on everything. Well, Guess what??? These burgers don’t need Ketchup. It was cooked to a perfect med rare just the way I ordered it. Seared, juicy, and beefy tasting. Damn, wish I could do em at home this way. Really, really great burger… Damn It was so good I left the Ketchup off the 2nd ½ of my burger and enjoyed the hell out of it. Besides the great burger, we also love the fact that they serve only U.P. Local tap beers. Great menu, great beer and good service!!! Hard to find in the U.P. But they do it well. What a great lunch experience!!! Slammer!!!

Good food. Too bad the management is rude and has no idea what customer service is. This used to be a favorite of mine but has gone downhill in recent years. Save yourself the aggravation and go to Aubree’s down the street or Vango’s on Third. The Potside Inn embodies everything that is wrong with customer service today.

Our Time at The Portside: There was a few tables but not even close to being slammed. Waited 30 min just for appetizers Waited over 45 entrees(nothing major either 2⁄5 was salads) Father wasn’t happy with his food Ask to talk to a manager Matt the owner/“chef” comes over «Oh you don’t like our fresh sliced turkey?» «I had your ticket timed out perfectly» «Oh I know who you are. You put in an application here like 6 months ago. Is that what the problem is?» Laughs at us to our faces We can hear them mocking us in the back from our table. At that point, yes, you bet your sweet ass I caused a scene. And here I was trying to defend them at first when my dad was getting pissed. We will NEVER, EVER go back there and I urge all of you to abstain from giving them your money as well.

The Portside Inn was suggested to me by Unilocal when spending a long weekend in Marquette/Big Bay. We popped in… the place is like a timewarp to the 1970s with sea captain/boat stuff everywhere. Menu was solid seafood. luckily they are located a few blocks from the shores of Lake Superior. Friendly staff… very hometown feel to it.

This was absolutely delicious and a great place to bring the family. The food portions are great. I had the fettuccine Alfredo(homemade Alfredo sauce) with shrimp and it was amazing. My mom tried the chicken enchiladas which were great and a huge portion.

This is our second time at the Portside. We arrived in time for some good drink specials and stayed for dinner. I had the filet and is was cooked well and was tasty. We also had their breadsticks, which were very tasty. My wife had French Onion Soup and salad which were also very good. Service was good and the place was nice.

My wife, her cousin, and I went here for dinner and drinks yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was packed at around 7pm when we first arrived, so we sat at the bar and got beers. We were informed by the pleasant bartender that they had a full menu at the bar if we wanted, but we opted to wait for a table. We were seated in about 20 mins, and had great meals. We all shared a potato soup, which was the last bowl out of the batch, so the waitress comped it. It was delicious, so she really didn’t need to, but it was very nice of her. We then got their Reuben, a cheeseburger, and the shrimp special of the evening. All three meals were fantastic. Service was great. I highly recommend this place if you’re in Marquette.

This place had one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. Sauce was tangy, crust was crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Pepperoni was spicy and the cheese was plentiful. Would love to eat another one!

The Portside is a Marquette staple and it kills me to give it 3 stars. The food is great(breadsticks, pizza, sandwiches… all of it). Local(Michigan) beers on tap including local cider on tap, can’t beat that! The servers are friendly and fast. The problem is the wait and over crowding. The place is too small to be a pub & a restaurant. I don’t mind waiting for 25 minutes for a table, but there is no room to wait. They should consider handing out those vibrating«hey your table is ready» things so you could at least take a walk. Sitting at the bar is so uncomfortable because people pile in around you like its a frat party. We’ve walked out on 3 occasions ourselves and have watched many others do the same, it’s a shame.

Back again after a year, and just as happy with the food at the Portside as in the past! The«Edmund»($ 7.75) is a very large and stuffed authentic Reuben with a stack of tasty definitely-not-off-the-Sysco-foo-truck pastrami, mild sauerkraut, nice Thousand Island type sauce, all on a bakery-made real rye bread. Comes with a huge stack of potato chips. Wonderful! The bowl of french onion soup($ 4.75) was about as good as it gets and topped with real mozarella cheese. My wife almost licked the bowl. Next day, the fish fry($ 7.99) came with three pieces of excellent hand-battered cod and a huge helping of homemade french fries. The bowl of clam chowder($ 3.75) was generous, very nicely seasoned, and yummy. Add the $ 3 Michigan cans of microbrew all day, or the $ 2.50 Michigan microbrew pints, and you have one hell of a good value. To boot, the lovely pub atmosphere, spotlessly clean environment, and pleasant, polite, and professional service makes this one of our favorite stops of all times.

This has long since been one of my favorite spots in Marquette, whether it be for a quiet drink, lunch, or full dinner. Their pizzas and calzones are unrivaled in town, as are many of their menu items, all crafted with quality ingredients. The Skatchata(sandwich) is a signature item of theirs, made on their own pizza dough, and is well worth stopping in for. Their burgers and breadsticks are considered local staples, and anyone who’s ever had them will understand why. They also feature a great variety of Michigan beers on tap, and happy hour features $ 2 Michigan pints. The Portside’s waitstaff and bartenders(and kitchen crew) are a cut above, as well, being knowledgable, competent and funny. They truly make the place feel like a better-stocked extension of your own kitchen. Thanks, guys, for the great job you do.
