My wife and I were 1st timers last night and the place was packed with a short wait, but our hostess said it would probably be about 15 minutes. She was right and had a table for us shortly. As stated in previous posts, seating is limited and I think the smallness of the place makes it what it is. The menu is fairly limited, but yet has a great selection for anyone. It’s simplicity is what I would think keeps it consistant, fresh, and unique. The staff was great, very pleasant and attentive, but not in your face!!! Started with the pretzel app and was warned by our waiter about the mustard having a kick. He was right, but both mustards were fantastic and the hot pretzels were great with our beer selection. I ordered the Jäger Schnitzel and the Mrs. had the Sauerbraten. Both meals were fantastic, although the cabbage and spatzle were cold, but didn’t want to send it back. Don’t get me wrong, even cold they were great!!! Neither one of us had a knife at our setting, and none needed as both meals were fork tender. The pork schnitzel was the Bomb!!! I guess my only Bitch about the Steinhaus is that for the prices and type of food served, the place needs a little more upscale atmosphere. It reminds me of a college student apartment with rummage sale furnishings. I understand the place is fairly new and it’s hard to start up and make it in the restaurant world, but maybe in the future they can dress it up a little to match the quality of the food. Would have gotten 5 stars, but for the money spent I want a little more. JMHO !!! We will be back and have already talked it up to others. Don’t let me down Steinhaus. P. S. Hard to find as the address is different from the Entrance. The door is actually around the corner from the address on Front street up the hill . Slammer!!!

We were in town visiting relatives and stopped in for brunch on Saturday. Short story is — Excellent! I had the the schnitzel special. Who knew eggs, schnitzel and gravy could be so good together. It was great. I highly recommend it. My wife had the bratwurst. Also an excellent choice. The best turned out to be the strawberry and chocolate donuts. I would go just for those next time. Service was outstanding.

Great German food! Fresh, hot and great service too. Extensive wine list and a hefty amount of local craft and imported beers. I’d definitely come back here.

I don’t get back to Marquette in the upper Peninsula very often but Steinhaus will be on my «must do» list anytime I’m north or west of the straits. Had a very enjoyable meal for four on a Friday night. Made a reservation and were seated promptly upon arrival. Great appetizer with the pretzels with a couple of different mustard options. Very nice. Then a couple of us did the sausage/bratwurst dinner option and one of us did Jäger schnitzel and one of us did Wienerschnitzel. And both of the schnitzels were exquisitely prepared to perfection – served hot and just the right crispiness with a very nice flavor. Overall the meals were great service was very strong with a nice young gentleman answering questions we had about some of our planned activities for the next day not being«regulars» in the area. A nice upscale dining room with bar at the back very cozy and a great place to enjoy on those cold upper peninsula nights.

While I don’t eat meat, I am never disappointed in my veggie options at the Steinhaus. In an area where bar food seems to be the norm, it’s great to have a restaurant that’s willing to push the boundaries so deliciously. And, did I mention their cocktails are amazing?!

It is presented as a German Restaurant, and I suppose it is. But it is much more. The farm-to-table approach is refreshing way up north. The weiner schnitzle was delicious and the wide selection of German and craft beers is top notch! Fun, cozy atmosphere. One thing, it’s around the corner from the address listed on Unilocal

A hip twist on traditional German food. Absolutely outstanding! Jeager Schnitzel was out of this world. Very highly recommended from a German guy.

My wife and I visited here on August 17th, 2015. I ordered the pork belly special, it tasted great. The only problem was that the portion size was ridiculously small. It came with approx. half a cup of mashed potatoes and two 0.25″ x 4″ slivers of carrot. I had complained that the portion size was small and the waiter said he would pass on my complaint. I was told that the manager wasn’t available. I called later and couldn’t reach management. The lady took my name and number and said the manager would call me…4 days later still no call. My wife ordered sauerbraten and it was excellent. Overall the food tasted great, but my meal was child size and I got no response to my complaints. Lesson learned for me is that I should have refused to pay when I first saw the small ration I got. I won’t eat here again.

If this place were in Brooklyn, it could totally hold its own against the popular brunch mainstays. Loved the wurst plate with eggs over-easy, and the schnitzel and eggs too. The coffee was nice and strong. And our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Also appreciated the music which ran the gamut from 90s hip-hop to Al Green. Will definitely come back next time we return to the U.P.

I’ve never had authentic German food before, and we were a little apprehensive. But we couldn’t pass up a 5 Unilocal star establishment. As usual, the Unilocal crowd did not let us down. We had the jäger schnitzel(phenomenal), the bratwurst(wow!!!), the flank steak, and the scallops. Pass on the scallops, but go for the rest.

So we entered from the«back» which is hard to tell if it’s really the back. But there’s no hostess stand or anything, and you see the bar and stuff right away. We waited a few minutes, and no one said A THING. So we figured it’s a seat yourself place, and sat down. The hostess came by a while later, and said that we may need to move because they had to save 4-top tables for bigger parties. Eventually left us where we were, but the start of the experience was definitely rough. Beer and wine were good. Very nice selection, a couple of drafts, and overall solid. So good there. I really wanted spicy mustard so we got the pretzels. They were good, a bit chewy on the outside, but the two mustards were fan-tas-tic. For dinner, wife had the house salad(she didn’t like) I had the weiner schnitzel. It was excellent. Once we were officially seated the service was very good. I’d come back. Though they should probably do something to fix the whole back door/front door issue. Even a little sign would do it.

Seriously blows my mind!!! You expect, from the view outside, to go into a divey little bar establishment, get your drink and nachos on– instead you get blown away with a limited seating seriously high end dining experience. I went in to part take in the Jolly Pumpkin Tap Take-over– and was astonished to see rack of lamb, spetzel and all sorts of awesomeness!!! Not only was the staff super friendly, the wine selection superbly selected– the food was impeccably crafted. I now know– when ever I need my German cuisine fix… A good glass of wine or brew, or just a friendly atmosphere– this is my spot!!!

If you need a change from the seafood, its a really great spot in a nice quiet street with a great view. Great beer and awesome food. The Jaeger schnittzel was on point and their beet salad was the perfect starter to the meal. The ample portion of kraut was fantastic as well. The staff was awesome and friendly and really gerat with recommendations and directing me to get tehre because I am directionally challenged.

Stopped here on a trip with a friend on his recommendation. He was right this place is amazing. They have been open for just over a year. The overall vibe in the place was very relaxed and very enjoyable. The food was amazing, I had the wurst. The kraut was great and the two kinds of mustard they they make there were amazing. They make everything there. The worst dish also came with a pretzel that they made which was also very good. Also had the spaetzle which was great, I have never had it before and I will definitely have it again. The place was very clean and the employee’s were very friendly. I am not from the area, but I will definitely make the trip back to enjoy a meal here. This place definitely adds to the already appealing city of Marquette. This is a must stop if you are in the area and a must go if you are not. Take they time to come here check out the city and enjoy Das Steinhaus’s amazing food.

Just a great experience. Excellent service, awesome food. Perhaps the best beer list in Marquette. Weiner schnitzel was excellent, served with red cabbage, a fried duck egg, and spatzel. Why don’t more places serve spatzel? This place is a wonderful, unique restaurant in downtown Marquette.

Steinhas has quickly established themselves as one of the best, if not the best restaurant in Marquette. Cocktails are exciting, beer list is impressive and always changing, and the food is executed brilliantly. Just a cool place to eat and drink and hang out.

I am in Marquette once a month and every single time, I look forward to this place. The food is unstoppable. They make it all from scratch, especially the sausage. Small joint with a cool feel. I have dreams about the spatz

I have only two complaints when it comes to Das Steinhaus: the space is too small, and the environment is too sterile. Somehow they need to make it a little more cozy. Everything else about my visit was sublime. I loved the staff and the fact that Tuesday nights they play vinyl records. Beer, food, and excellent music. What more could you ask for? I had the quail, and my dining companion had the jäger schnitzel. The quail was a challenge to consume, and I really think you just need to pick that tiny bird up and eat it with your hands! RAWR! I wish I had gotten the jäger schnitzel, only because it was less expensive and more food. I sampled the deep-fried pork cutlet, and instantly I was in love! I have to say, outside of my visit to the Keweenaw Peninsula, I very much enjoyed my dinner in Marquette with a good friend. We both finished everything on our plates and even split a dessert! I wish I remembered what we had. It was chocolate cake, very moist. Vegetarians need not worry, there are different dishes served daily! The thought regarding German cuisine would be that they feed you only meat and potatoes. You’re wrong! If anything, come here for the Tuesday night vinyl and some beers, eh? I will definitely be back!
