We use to come here all the time and it was great. They have really taken a step back. Food was board line but editable. Wait stuff was average at best. Atmosphere seemed depressing.

No restaurant claiming to be a real seafood place should serve Swai or Basa… Des Allemands is minutes away. Why use frozen imported fish?

My Mom suggested that we stop at Sal’s for a quick lunch and I am so very glad she did! Eating at Sal’s was like a trip down Memory Lane for how it used to be when we would go to eat seafood at places like Bruning’s, L’Enfants or Swansons near Ponchartrain Beach during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The food is authentic home-style cuisine that’s not too greasy and not too spicy. The shrimp stuffed bell pepper platter was just phenomenal! The potato salad was just right — creamy, small chunks of potato, with well-balanced flavors. The food reminded me so very much of my own grandmother’s home cooking, and there aren’t very many restaurants today that can produce a meal as good as Maw-Maw’s — but Sal’s sure can and did!

This place was delicious! Exactly what we wanted, authentic, off the beaten path and so fresh. We had the po’ boy shrimp sandwich and the stuffed bell pepper meal with potatoes, corn and rice– it was AMAZING. So buttery and flavorful with seasoning, we LOVED it. Totally reccomend doing an airboat and then eating here!

Sal’s became our household’s favorite place to get seafood. The ladies who help us are always nice. The boiled crabs are the best. When it’s crawfish season, we have to get at least 10 lbs. Please check out this place for some of the best seafood in the New Orleans area.

Very mom/pop place. Customer service was fantastic. The waitress guided us through the menu and thoroughly explained anything we asked about. The food was very good. It would be something like you would have at grandmas house. Simple but tasty. This was a little gem to find without paying the high prices. We will definitely go again when we come back to LA.

HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE! My server was rude & inconsiderate. I placed an order of 2 appetizers & she only brought out one. When she placed my small plate on the table, the sausage rolled across the table & she laughed & said«your sausage is running away from you» & then WALKEDAWAY. She didn’t apologize, she didn’t offer me a new one nor did she try solving the situation in any way possible. I waited 25 more minutes til I asked where my second dish was & her respond was«I didn’t hear you say that.» So I preceded to ask for my check. DON’T GOHERE!

My husband and I are transplants from Southern California. Sal’s has quickly become one of my favorite go to places. The food and service are always on point! I totally crave the jumbalya! It’s a great little spot to get messy, ear some amazingly fresh seafood, drink a beer and have some laughs!

This is a hole in the wall/mom and pop restaurant/fish market. Prices were excellent and the serving size was excellent, not a state of the art place, but it was the best seafood we had while in the New Orleans area. They were very busy and the sea food market was booming with customers. A must stop if in the area.

The crab was boil with just the right amount of seasoning. My husband had a meatball sandwich since he doesn’t eat crab and he said it was one of the best he has had. If you Dine-in you pay more which is kind of weird but you can order to go. You have to crack the crabs with a butter knife and use the pinchers to get the meat out because they say they get lost in the trash. So either come with your own or get creative. The crabs are good but I am sure you can find the same stuff anywhere in New Orleans.

I tried it out a couple of weeks ago. The prices are fine, but I think we needed a primer as to what to order. The fish is swai, so if that’s an issue for you, take note. Crawfish was sols out at 6:00 on a Friday, so unsure if that’s a good sign, or not. Parking is a great big gravel joy. The staff is friendly, and quick. I bought a beer while waiting(15 minutes), but no one comes over to let you know your order is ready(perhaps 8 minutes). It’s a low-key, bare-bones joint. Easy to be messy. Bring the kids!

Sal’s Seafood has an «old time» exterior, and the interior, while plain, is very neat and clean. They specialize in boiled seafood, but we wanted to try their fried plates. One of the group ordered the Fried Shrimp Po-Boy, and the other two adults ordered the Fried Shrimp Plate, which came with about nine fried shrimp, buttered toast, French fries, and a piece of corn-on-the-cob. No salad included. The shrimp were nicely seasoned and not the least bit greasy. We thought it was a decently-good restaurant, in the«C+» or «B-» range. We decided to score it a «B-», but if we sampled their boiled seafood, I imagine the score would be significantly higher. RJT

Long time since I’ve been here, but we were on the West Bank craving fish. I had only ordered boiled seafood from Sals before which was AMAZING! We thought it was worth a try. I’m so glad we did their fried fish was so good! Seasoned well, light and crisp and plentiful. I have a doggie bag for dinner. My fiancé ordered white beans w/fried catfish. He also loved the fish & gave the beans 3 stars. We both had a beer and our order came to $ 23. Great price for the quality and quantity of food. Highly recommend!

This is the epitome of a hole in the wall type of business. Tucked into a run-down set of buildings off Barataria, it is comprised of a small room for picking up to go and a bigger room set up for eating. Pricing is not bad but if you eat in-house, everything is one buck per pound more expensive. When we walked in, the first think I noted was a lack of smalls. It didn’t smell fishy at all. Normally that’s a good thing but for a seafood place, it had me worried. But no worry necessary. They cook the food out back and its sold so quickly that there isn’t much time for the smell to build up. The second thing I noticed was the HUGE piles of crawfish shells left on the table by the people who just left. The waitress(Christy, I believe) was cleaning it up and tsking about the fact that they left 2−3lbs of crawfish just sitting there when they left. She called it a crime to waste them. Personally, I have to agree. If they tasted bad, that would be one thing, but from the amount of shells on the table, they put a good dent in about 10lbs. As she’s cleaning I ask her about the spice level of the crawfish, she brings me this giant plate of crawfish and just gives them to be. She said it was better than tossing them. So yeah. That happened. I got 2−3lbs of crawfish as lagniappe. I think heaven is calling me. The crawfish is a bit under-hot for me but probably just about perfect for most people. Having said that, the flavor was great. Really well balanced. The Girly even tried a few. We ordered the stuffed artichoke heart and the seafood stuffed eggs and the Girly got the shrimp po boy and as we left, I got a pound of shrimp for later. Ok. So the scores: The good: The eggs were fantastic but you only get 1 per order. Free crawfish. How could that not be good? The Po Boy was really good, the bread was soft and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The service was fantastic. Friendly and fast. The bad: The stuffed artichoke heart was really nothing but stuffing. Really dry and not too good. For 5 bucks, you get maybe 30 cents worth of stuffing. Only bottle service. Even water came in a bottle for an upcharge. A little Iced tea(not bottled) would have been wonderful. The Ugly: The shrimp. I tried to peal and eat some of the shrimp and these were tiny, fishy and waaaay over-cooked. I wanted to heat them over the hibachi but they were already really rubbery so couldn’t. I will try to use them for a stock later but as something to just eat, no. All in all, I really liked this place and I liked the people working there. She said they had been around since the 70s and I can see why. I’m hoping those shrimp were just a bad day thing as lots of people were taking them to go. Lagniappe crawfish is a wonderful thing.

We had the medium crab as well as the stuffed crab. Absolutely delicious. Also my wife had never had a full crab and the staff was extremely helpful in showing her how to break them open and eat them. They even replaced one that I had butchered. The Jambalaya with the stuffed crabs was amazing with just the right amount of spice. And the stuffed crab was really good. However I did have a few shell pieces left in it. Only down side was don’t expect fountain drinks. They are all canned cokes or bottles of water.

As a Westbanker, I am ashamed to say I made my first visit here on Friday night. I was missing out! Located on Barataria Blvd in Marrero, Sal’s was serving up some delicious boiled seafood. Had a hankering for boiled crabs and decided to check this place out. So glad we did! Crab prices are high right now… but it’s early in the season. Walking in, to the right is a line for pick up and to the left is the small dining area. Ordered a dozen boiled crabs, and they came right out. They set up you up with newspaper on the table and if you want beer, it’s from a can. But I feel like canned Budlight and boiled crabs just works together. The crab had great flavor and had a lot of meat in them. Our waitress Christy was awesome! Seriously, she talked to us like we were regulars. You get the southern no frills feeling here, and I say that in a good way. We didn’t even look at a menu, as we already knew it was boiled crabs we were after. I regret that now, guess I’ll have to go back! So, if you are looking for a local boiled seafood spot, Sal’s would be a place to go!

The best crawfish and crabs in the city. The only thing that would make Sal’s boil absolutely perfect and deserving of 5 stars is citrus. The boil water needs oranges and lemons and then it would truly be home-style for me :) The spice is on point and addictive. They put Perino’s to shame because they are always fresh. I hate how the competition re-soaks crustaceans to make them hot before they serve instead of just boiling everything fresh! I much prefer the way that Sal’s does business — hot and fresh, even if you have to wait for a minute.

Sals. What is there to say about sals. If you get someone to take your order & you actually get your food you may have an experience to talk about. There is 8 tables In the place. 5 were full 3 were empty & dirty w/food & trash. I waited 7 min before the only girl in the dining area got around to cleaning 1 before I could sit. Took her 10 min to take our drink & food order. Throughout the meal we had to get up twice, go to the bar & get our own drinks. They were out of Seafood Gumbo, Red beans, & we just luckily got the last stuffed artichoke. As we ate we heard her keep telling people other items they were out of. We got there around 6:20pm which is still early for dinner for a restaurant to be out of a lot of stuff. We ordered 1 pound of shrimp which was cold & over cooked, 5 pounds of crawfish which were ok & a ½ DZ of LG crabs which were not going to be ready for 15 to 20 more min so we waited for those while we ate the other items. Well they showed up an hour &15 min later because the server forgot to put the order in. While we ate 3 tables got up & left b/c they got tired of waiting for someone to take their drink order. The whole time we were there I did notice 5 old guys who sat @ the corner of the bar drinking beer & every now & then one of them would get up & get themselves another beer or walk in the back kitchen but not once clean off a table, take an order, or help a customer. We only ended up at Sals b/c Perinos was closed the whole week for summer vacation(A.K.A Essence Festival)

We were on a trip with our visitors to Jean Lafitte Park and spotted this place on our way back into the city… what a GREAT find! Another«only-in-New-Orleans» kind of place. Things we loved: Perfectly seasoned boiled crawfish complete with newspaper on the tables to eat ‘em on, $ 2 cans of Miller Lite, Fried Shrimp Po-boy, decently priced sides, the sweet potato pie. Things that were just O.K.: jambalaya, potato salad, cold boiled shrimp, crawfish pie, boiled corn. Things we didn’t like: the shrimp remoulade salad(should be called the thousand island shrimp salad), the bread pudding, and the boiled sausage, yeah, no. And the way we received the itemized bill was UN-cool, I’d like to see what I paid and how much taxes were added, please. Overall, a great place to get hot boiled crawfish and cold cheap beers. I will be back!
