I was born Catholic. Raised Catholic. I’m now a non-practicing one. But when I was in Catechism school, I really liked hearing the story of when God created the world. He worked for 6 days creating man, woman, the world and everything in it. On sabbath day, God rested. So did I. Only my definition of resting included bubbly, bivalves and bodacious Unilocalers. On the last Sunday of July, about 15 Unilocalers said they’ll make the trek to Tomales Bay. Braving bad traffic, car sickness and twisty roads on Highway 1, just to spend time under the sun(after the fog cleared! whew), slurping oysters, BBQing and sipping bubbly. Imagine my shock when 30+ people showed up! Of course, we had more than enough food to feed an army: gourmet cheeses, salumi, Filipino style BBQ pork skewers, Chicken skin on a stick, Empanadas(aka Asian hot pockets! LOL), Darryl’s bomb marinated chicken(I swear it had like 10+ ingredients!), White and red wines, bubbly, oysters, JCP’s minted fruit salad, desserts, hotdogs, OMG it was an endless feast! Thank you Ken, Erwin and Sherman, these guys are bad ass mother shuckers! those oysters just kept coming! Thank you Badri for capturing everything on film. From the food, the close-ups, the kodak moments. I didn’t take any pics because I knew we were in good hands. It’s been a month since our Slurpy Sabbath but I remember it as if it was yesterday. This event was such a great one, there’s no doubt it’ll be a yearly tradition. I’m so thankful and so honored to have you guys as my Unilocal family. Til next year!

Bubbly + bivalves = good times. It was a Sunday morning, and I was writing my daily review when David B. sent me compliment asking, «Are you going today?» «Hrm…the other thing we were supposed to go to got cancelled, so we’ll see. I’ll ask Lovie if he’s up for it.» I asked, and soon enough we were in the car to make the 2 hour trek to Tomales Bay from Oakley. The food… wow, wow, and more wow. Like what Jennifer mentioned, there was a circulated potluck list going around. We had everything from sliced fruit salad, green bean salad, cheese and more cheese, hummus, whoopie pies, key lime pie, empanadas, smoked salmon, Jame’s awesome pork on a stick and Darryl’s yummy grilled chicken, and Chang’s tofurkey hot dogs. And of course, the oysters. The lovely lovely oysters that when slathered in Jennifer CP’s awesome kick-in-your-mouth green sauce made the most perfect Summer treat. Thank you so much Janice for organizing this event! You are the UYE queen, and I now see why… because people are guaranteed to have a belly ache’s worth of smiles and food. I look forward to hanging out with this crew more often!

Bubbly and bivalves were my usual reasons to head up to Tomales Bay each summer, sometimes with a hike thrown in beforehand. Those trips are always a fun-filled, and a stomach-filled, times. But on this particular trip, adding bodacious Unilocalers created the perfect storm for super good times, haha. Besides the purchased bags of oysters, everyone brought something. And, even though I had planned to taste only a little bit of each item in order to try everything, was stuffed after just trying half of the foods! Ack! Only with a Janice-UYE, and this group, does the final RSVP list grew to triple size at the event. Surely speaks highly of the company. That’s cool beans trust. Note: two oyster farm trips this summer already, and still haven’t done the annual trip with non-yelp friends. surely one more before summer ends, lol.

And on the seventh day, you shall rest… But only after you’ve carpooled out to Tomales Bay Oyster Company slathered in sunscreen with a trunk full of incredible edibles and partied down with your very bestest of foodie friends!!! Thank you, David B. & Janice C. for coming up with the idea to have us risk winding roads, perilously slow Priuses, brave absurdly long waits for the loo and melanoma to pay homage to BUBBLY, BIVALVESANDBOOBIES! Oh, and a very special shout out to Badri — thanks for documenting our foodtastic insanity and champagne fueled antics, PLUS bringing back some delicious candies from Tokyo — bonus! I think he took the lion’s share of the pics(and great ones, at that) because everybody else was caught up in all of the communal consumption at our 3 tables! I know I was — and for those who are too hung-over to remember: I brought the Sottocenere(truffled), the Lingot D’Argental(triple crème) and Boucheron(tangy goat’s milk) cheeses… The sweet brick of red stuff was«membrillo» or «quince paste» and the Orange Blossom Honey, all from Farmstead Cheeses and Wines. JCP, who generously furnished her breasteses for Janice and I to lay our wear heads upon… Tee-hee-hee! I think I could hear the sounds of many happy times echoing in the valley of her fantastic cleavage. David B., thank you for the«wooter» when I was parched… and thanks for taking the snap of me waiting in that bitch-assed long line for the facilities. Next time, I’m going to wear a Depends or something. Sorry, but as important as hydration is, that line was just plain uncivilized. Yay for Peter L. and Darryl P. manning the grills and keeping the voracious carnivores happy and in a state of perpetual bliss. Ken and Sherman were fantastic mother-shuckers and made sure dozens and dozens of fresh oysters kept hitting the grills and getting served raw on the half shell!!! Loved seeing Grace & Gillian(I think they’re actually long-lost separated identical twins!) — both of y’all are gorgeous and it cracked everybody up that this was your first time meeting! It was like the Parent Trap, only with better comedic timing, fewer plot twists and AMAZING food! Let’s do it again… as soon as my weird sun tan pattern on my feet fades!
