Truly one of kind and the best restaurant(or bakery for that matter) in Marshall. I’ve always been thoroughly pleased with my meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. The last dinner I had was a special, IPA braised pulled pork stuffed in a roasted butternut squash. It was glorious! If you’re going to Marshall, you must plan a meal here.

Ordered a 10.99 mill of crabby pattie with a side and left full. Place was accomading and Hollie was a nice server. Beautiful town to see.

I was told, by a NC Welcome Center person while discussing the town of Marshall, only that«there’s a café,» in a way that told me I would be able to find lunch while in town. Maybe that person has not been the the Sweet Monkey, because if she had… she would have raved and told me it was a «must do.» My choice was the Ragin’ Cajun blackened chicken pizza, and it was really THAT good. The owner was very nice and friendly, despite having plenty of things to her busy. I will make more trips to Marshall just to be able to have another meal there.

Brunch was incredible. Veggi frittatas and the french toast, local sausage patty and applewood smoked bacon were enjoyed by all

Great experience with Sweet Monkey. We came up to the mountains for a weekend getaway and ended up not being able to get our car back up the mountain due to the rain to retrieve our belongings from the house where we were staying. Stopped into Sweet Monkey for a drink and the kind owner found someone with a 4 wheel drive to get us up the mountain to get our stuff. Saved! Didn’t eat there but everything looked wonderful. The mimosa I had was fabulous! Sweet southern hospitality at the Sweet Monkey!

Cyclists beware– you’re not welcome here. The stars are for the location and the fact that they serve beer. The lady running this place charges folks money to fill water bottles. She reprimanded my party several times for what I’m not even sure– we were a small group of professional adults who stopped in mid ride for refreshments. Sad, because it’s a small town with lots of great routes in the area.

Totally unpretentious and affordable(five star) café in downtown Marshall. Holly, the owner and chef, says her brunches are not to be missed(Sunday’s 10−4pm) and I plan to try one soon. The outdoor seating is cute and even has is a watering bowl for dogs. Worth the drive from Asheville.

The food was great, as well as the vibe, but we had to rush out because of a time crunch. The people were nice and made the food a quick as possible. The waitress came right out with the food wrapped up and ready to go. The food was pretty good worth 4 stars, but for the price we payed the amount of food was lacking. The pasta salad had no flavor, but the potatoe salad was great.

Wow. Just wow. We rented a cabin in Marshall for the weekend and had the pleasure of being in walking distance of the Sweet Monkey Café. The women that were working were very welcoming. I would be there everyday if I lived in Marshall.. I will never look at another shrimp or grit the same way after I had brunch here over the weekend. It was amazing. It was made with local sausage, shrimp, yellow grits, tomatoes and a bunch of other awesomeness. Try it. You won’t regret it. The rest of my party enjoyed their brunch just as much as I did if not more. I hear their molasses cookies are out of this world too. Sadly they were out by the time we got there. Next time. I can’t wait until we are back in the area to visit again!

My fiancé and I were staying in the mountains north of Asheville and we’re blessed to find this gem. Quaint, simplistic, and hip ambiance in downtown Marshall. We had brunch on Sunday, one of the best ever. Everything was great from the coffee, to the service, to the main dishes. The shrimp and grits were perfectly done with an amazing, creamy broth complementing the authentic grits. Excellent! The brunch special was also out of this world good. Eggs, chorizo, and kale on top of cheesy jalapeño bread, prepared french toast style, with the best hollandaise sauce I’ve had. Highly recommend a trip to Marshall and to this standout establishment.(This from someone who rarely gives 5-star reviews)

Chicken sandwich was great. Everything fresh. Bread was soft with just enough crispness. Roasted potato salad was a first but it was absolutely delicious. A very eclectic atmosphere.

Stopped in to this quaint local stop for breakfast. It feels like sitting on a neighbors back porch for coffee and laughs. This was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had! The grits should be food group! Great coffee, and french toast from scratch made cinnamon bread. Great stop with great service and fabulous food! Go see Holli and hang out on her porch.

Just delicious!!! We picked a random place to stop for lunch after our rafting trip in Marshall. After seeing some reviews on Unilocal we decided on Sweet Monkey café. We were staying in downtown Asheville and went to all of the top rated restaurants there but my entire family all agreed our meal here for lunch was better than ANY of our lunches and dinners in downtown Asheville. Everything here is homemade by the owner. The ground pork sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I ever tasted! The chicken sandwich was also amazing. The owner makes everything fresh daily and her own homemade bread. Our next stop is in Hendersonville where we are staying a few days and we might drive an hour back here just to have lunch again before our vacation is over.

Had lunch everything very fresh all breads home made. Crab cake sandwich was awesome! The Burger was good as well and we were able to do both lunch or breakfast at our sitting.

My goodness, where to start? We were vacationing in nearby Mars Hill, but looking for a breakfast stop and was referred to Sweet Monkey’s by a local. We stopped in on Wednesday morning and sat outside in a nice covered patio. The service was prompt and friendly, we learned that a majority of their food comes from local sources and you could taste it! Everything was fresh and flavorful, including the coffee! The grits are a nice option to replace toast if you’re gluten sensitive. Our son raved about the sausage! Everything was delicious, I think we all cleaned our plates! Thank you!

I’ve got to agree with a earlier review about the chicken sandwich. It’s the best I’ve ever had too. And the owner/chef is very personable and attentive. I’m looking forward to returning for Sunday Brunch.

Five stars based on the food and the service. Came in here by chance looking to pick up some take out for lunch and use the bathroom. I was a little put off at first that the menu items were a few dollars more than your average place but I was on vacation and let it slide. I ordered the chicken sandwich that was first on the menu and was not expecting it to end up being THEBEST(non-sub or hoagie) sandwich I have purchased from a restaurant anywhere, EVER! Wow.

Went here for dinner. The food was really good. This is REAL gourmet chef created food. The menu is eclectic and not your run of the mill finds. You can get beer or wine. For people looking for a nice dinner out with a farm to table menu and aren’t in a hurry and willing to pay for quality this is the place. Food is cooked after you order it so it doesn’t get to the table quickly. The place is on the small side but usually there isn’t a long wait. One of the only quality food places in Marshall. I hear brunch is awesome.

Wow. A pleasent suprise. after a pottery show near by my hubby and I were starving and explored downtown Marshall. What a suprise many awesome and eclectic bussinesses. And we happened upon this lovely litte eatery in progress. Some construction going on but looks like amazing things to come. But the food what a pleasure. I had the hilariously named ridiculous rebuen perfect bread… great pastrami and just loved the saukeraut. The side kale salad was refreshing. My hubby had the pork sandwich he devoured it commenting on the awesome blue cheese with carmelized Onion bread. Then we had the awesome bread salad which I giggled and called«carb salad»…try it!!! My only utter of complant was lack of soda or soda like substance cause I have an issue… lol. But my hubby loved the unsweet tea. Try this place out I highly recommend it plus the lady who served us was polite and refreshingly observant. Nommy!!!
