Couldn’t check in here because of a week cell connection, but had a pleasant breakfast nevertheless. I went with a florentine omlette: spinach, tomatoes, caramelized onions, feta cheese and pesto. The dish also came with home fries. It was a huge plate and kept me full on the rest of the drive. My partner had french toast, which was very thick and comes with a generous serving of maple syrup. Prices here are fair — you really get what you paid for. No eggs benedict, which I was craving, but they do have a variety of food to choose from(omlettes, french toast, egg sandwiches). The service here is very friendly and it seems that all the locals gather here for breakfast.

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat on our journey exploring VT& we were so happy we did! The egg sandwiches were huge, the eggs fluffy, pork sausage from local farms, can’t ask for a better sand which then this!

Finally made it here on a beautiful, sunny, Sunday morning, I heard they had great vegetarian and gluten free options so I was especially excited to go. The drive took about twenty minutes from St. Johnsbury and its a really pretty one. We got there around ten and only one other couple was eating. It is a very casual space with what I think was local art(portraits) adorning the walls and paper mâché flowers at each table. Our waitress was very quick to seat and help us. She described some of the gluten free choices and gave us our menus. There were at least three or four vegetarian specific items which may not seem like a lot but in this area it certainly is(especially for breakfast!) I decided on the scrambled tofu burrito only I had it in gluten free bread instead. It was scrambled in a light ginger sauce which was delicious. Great portion. My friend ordered an omelette with home fries which were so crispy and not at all greasy. The omelette was packed with fresh veggies and looked good. We both ordered coffee and they serve Vermont coffee roasters coffee. Strong, fresh cups! On the way out we ordered a berry smoothie and it was also really delicious. Overall, great food, plenty of eating options, friendly staff, laid back atmosphere. Go glad to have finally come and I will definitely come back. m

Maple Valley is under new ownership. I was always a loyal customer when Dudley and Janet were the owners. Their breakfast sandwiches were amazing as well as the lunch menu. However, I recently went to Maple Valley to get a breakfast sandwich. I ordered the one with egg, avacado, salsa, and sprouts, I also asked for tofu. When I opened my sandwich it had no tofu and spinach NOT sprouts. I returned the sandwich and asked for a new one. The female owner argued with me as if I didn’t know what I had ordered and she also said that they were out of sprouts, which no one told me to begin with. When I opened my new sandwich to enjoy it. It now had no egg. I returned it again, and once again the female owner argued with me. I guess she never heard«the customer is always right» phrase. Well, anyway she told me that when I add tofu that it replaces the egg. That it is either tofu or egg. I am pretty sure that when someone adds to a list of ingredients it does not mean that they want to replace something else. I did not want a substitution. I wanted the sandwich as shown on the menu with tofu. I am honestly not upset that they messed up my sandwich(twice) I am upset with the way I was treated. The female owner of this establishment is very rude and wants to argue with customers instead of listening and making their food as requested. I had always been a loyal customer of Maple Valley in the past but now I am regrettably stating that they have lost me as a customer simply because of attitude. If u read this post all the way through then please be sure to tell the staff EXACTLY what u would like for your meal. Good Luck.

Great hidden jem. Had breakfast here. The food was hot and wonderful the coffee fresh and flavorful. I recommend the home fries. The toast was made with homemade bread! The service was well above average; friendly yet courteous. One could easily pass this place and they would be missing a delightful experience. Well worth the drive.

I had lunch here recently. It is a quaint little diner. I ordered a turkey pesto sandwich with fries. I also ordered a chocolate milkshake. My dining companion got an florentine omelet with home fries. She also ordered chai tea. My sandwich was large and tasted quite good. The fries were the best I’ve had in a while! I was very happy with the milkshake as well. The only drawback I will mention was that when the omelet was delivered there was no spinach in it. The person who served it informed us that they had no spinach at the time. The waitress failed to mention it at the time we made our order. It wasn’t a big deal to my companion, who did enjoy the omelet she was served. She also commented that the home fries were delicious. I will definitely come back again to this diner.

Was waited on fairly quickly. Food took a little while to come out as it is done in order of placing, which isn’t too bad as the place is small. Had the McDudley breakfast sandwich with ham, which was good, and home fries with carrots and garlic — big chunks of potato. They were tasty. Maybe a little expensive for what you get, but overall pretty good experience.

This place is great! I meant to write this long-overdue review but time got away. We stumbled upon this place while our car was getting a replacement engine(grrr) at a local mechanic shop and we were really pleased to find this little local gem for breakfast. We went back 2 more times during our 10 day stay. I don’t start breakfast out without a cup of joe! They use a really good local roaster(I’ve visited Vermont about 6 times and have always enjoyed drinking this coffee & buying beans to take home w/me), Vermont Coffee Co., and their sourcing of food is very much local and organic, free-range etc. We were impressed that they provide alternatives for people w/food allergies(like gluten-free, vegan and hybrid wheat intolerance…) and the like. We were very pleased w/our breakfast choices(eggs, pork, local bread toast/English muffins)…and my partner loved the buckwheat pancakes w/local VT maple syrup w/real butter. The prices were fair and the place though not fancy was clean(bathrooms nice & clean) and the staff very nice… even friendly! We were very happy to find this place as we love to support local businesses and reward those who support OTHER local businesses(sourcing local goods)…which is the way to hurt the corporations and help keep the money recycling in the local economy. People may be down-to-earth and not captive to consumption here… which was part of the charm for us and a reason why we love to visit… but they are super educated about what it means to GOLOCAL!

A mom-and-pop salvation in rural Vermont. First priority: coffee. Dudley and Janet serve Vermont Coffee Company(fair trade and organic) with care and distinction. Always fresh and hot. Next: food. Although the store’s front end is a quirky mix of gifts, keep walking back for the real gift — the café. Sit and eat or take food to go. Breakfasts are made with care. Some of the finest homefries you’ll find anywhere. Breakfast burritos and a variety of egg-and-whatver-on-English-muffin options are great. Soups, salads, burgers. It’s all good. Go for Janet’s baked goods — fruit bars, granola, brownies. My favorite is available only on Sundays: cheese muffins. Might sound odd, but Janet mixes just a bit of cheddar, a hint of cayenne and sesame seeds into a delightful meal/snack. Get there early Sunday before they’re gone. Finally, Dudley, sometimes your server in the café, is wit walking. And there’s no extra charge for the darts he’ll toss your way, which will indeed make you happy.

Okay here’s the deal. Best breakfast sandwich ever, yet to be upped by anywhere I’ve visited in my existence. Get it on a bagel for $.50 extra, and lots of options; bacon, sausage, avocado and sprouts. The sandwiches and wraps are the best in Vermont. Closed for winter.

When I lived in the area I was so pleased to have this place around. It’s basically a good old fashioned country store where you can get just about anything you need… and the prices are actually reasonable. Plus, this is the only place I have ever seen 32 oz. Miller High Life… in a can!

I love the Maple Valley Store. It does not look like much from the road. Located right on US Rt. 2 on the edge of town, the Maple Valley had all kinds of VT goodness. From fresh baked bread and a deli, incense, candles, tie die tee shirts, local honey and cheese, Ben&Jerry’s seconds, local beef jerky. I think they serve breakfast too. This place has a real VT crunchy granola feel to it. Check out the local community board too for really cool local flavor.
