Stayed one night on June 9, 2012. I reserved for a normal room, one queen bed. We were given a handicapped accessible room and when we opened the door we were immediately assaulted by the smell of dust/must and smoke(in a non-smoking room). The room was superficially clean(in our 3 minute inspection), but smelled terrible. We asked to be moved and payed for an upgrade to a suite(also non-smoking). The smell was almost as bad in the second room(more musty than smoke though), but we couldn’t change rooms or hotels because we needed to get changed for a wedding ASAP. This hotel is just a re-branded(but un-renovated) Holiday Inn«Holidome» circa 1982. The carpet and curtains were threadbare and dirty and were obviously the source of the odor. The décor obviously hasn’t been updated and there certainly hasn’t been a renovation in 20 years(no exaggeration). Basic amenities were missing: no coffee maker, no iron or ironing board, no book/binder explaining services/amenities like you find in most hotels. There was one towel, one hand towel and one washcloth, period. When we went downstairs to ask for more they carefully noted our room number(afraid we’d steal?) Our suite had a whirlpool tub, but the water that filled it was so brown/rust colored that we were afraid to use it.(I can’t believe I didn’t think to take a photo because I’m sure some would dispute it, but it was terrible.) The shower/sink water seemed fine, so this must be a whirlpool tub problem. There were two vending machines in the entire hotel that were both sold out of water(and almost everything else). Cleanliness was an issue… hair was in the shower, dust on the floors in corners. I stay in hotels for work about 75 – 85 night a year for the past 8 years(mostly Marriott chain). This is the second worst hotel I’ve even been in. I created a Unilocal account for the sole purpose of warning people about this place.

If your family is ever smack dab in the middle of Wisconsin in a little town called Marshfield, the Woodfield Inn is a good place to stay for around $ 70-$ 90. The rooms are all arranged around a central courtyard containing a nice sized pool(3 – 5 feet in depth, so no diving, although that’s perfect for kids to splash around in), an adjacent hot tub(where I spent some quality time while still keeping an eye on the activities in the pool), an eating area on the large poolside deck, a couple of pool tables and some arcade games. There is free wi-fi in the rooms, and thus free netflix movies through your laptop. I was surprised and impressed, and had absolutely no trouble keeping my 4-year old entertained. It’s nothing fancy, but is definitely fun. Continental breakfast is also included — standard hotel fare that fulfilled our needs. I appreciate that pool towels were provided, and found the rooms decently clean. Don’t come to Marshfield to visit the Woodfield Inn, but if you happen to visit Marshfield, do stay here. The pricier Holiday Inn in town isn’t likely to be worth the extra money.
