Climbing Monkey Winery… been around since 2002 and today I finally stopped by! Im all about supporting local businesses and this particular one is a no brainer. Super nice people and wines were more than just solid! I tried the Chard which isn’t my thing but did pass as a close cousin of cougar juice(Rombauer). Red blends were good, cab not as heavy as I like but great for everyday utility wine and the petite syrah unique, interesting and really pleasant. I’m sampling the merlot right now and it’s surprisingly hearty. Seriously, check it out. Take the time to schedule and visit… you’ll be glad you did…

Nice little homey, local winery. I came here on a complete whim recently, while running some errands; I thought«You know, wine tasting sounds nice» So, with a few clicks onto my Unilocal search engine looking for local tastings, this unique little place popped up — and which just happened to be open the only day of the month that their open! What a coincidence ! The winery is located in a neighborhood, hiked upon a hill. The tasting room is nothing fancy– just a laid back, beyond casual, little tent like atmosphere. I felt upon entering, as If I was coming over to visit some family friends; the owners(and family dog) were all very welcoming. I had a set up at one of the barrel tables they have set, among st some other folks indulging in the tasting. They really have some extremely creative names to represent their unique and tasty wines(goes with the winery’s name, go figure). I tried a variety of what they were offering this particular day: a nice, bold and delicious cab, a great red blend, some whites and another red I can’t recall– all were distinctively unique and tasty in there own way. I ended up purchasing a Zin to take home. Would definitely like to take some friends back for a tasting next time their open.

Great family owned winery, very friendly and welcoming! We had a fun afternoon enjoying lots of tastings from their wide variety of wine. Only open when they host an open house once a month, well worth the trip! Very steep driveway though and limited parking. but a gorgeous view from the little area they have available to sit and enjoy.

What a treasure this home winery is! A collection of red wines was introduced to us by Marta who generously offered a gracious tasting of their line and shared in her personal history in her evolvement and love of wine making. As a family of rock climbers and with the drive to restore Martinez County again as wine country, «Climbing Monkey» was born. Be sure to call and make an appointment for your wine tasting experience. Parking is limited since located in a residential area. Check-in to claim your 10% discount! Visa, MC&AMEX accepted.

My husband and I brought our friends here yesterday. This winery is practically in our back yard(I wish!). Marta and Kevin are so passionate about their work and it really comes through in their wines. Their zinfandel is full and bright — very enjoyable with a nice acidic balance. They have fun names for their wines: Awesome B-Deaux is a great cab, merlot, and syrah blend. They produce several varietals in their tiny garage up on a steep hill in Martinez. The four of us enjoyed their hospitality as much as we enjoyed their wines. We immediately signed up for their wine club!

My wife and I, along with several friends(8 in all!) checked this place out yesterday. We had tried the wines in the not-too-distant past and really liked them, so when we had a chance to see where they are made, and meet the people who make them, we jumped at it! Great place, GREAT people — very small and informal facility, but clearly, these folks really know what they’re doing. When they become huge, we will proudly say«We knew them when…» Look for Climbing Monkey’s wines — they are terrific!

We first had a Climbing Monkeys red blend about a year ago at Bravo Bistro. We liked it so much that when my husband’s birthday rolled around, I looked up Climbing Monkeys to see if we could get a tour and a tasting. They couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating. We must have talked with them for a couple of hours over a taste of this and a taste of that. It’s a small place, but they turn out big wines!
