Rick’s Place Framing and Gallery

I cannot say enough amazing things about this creative genius! I have asked for Rick’s help on several challenging projects and he did not disappoint! I feel confident that no matter how difficult or crazy the project Rick will not only take it on but will exceed my expectations by miles!
He is a very nice person who is always up for a fun conversation while in his shop. I’m a customer for life and wish him only the best of fortune in the coming years. Rick’s Place is a Bay Area Gem!

Rick did a wonderful job on the framing of four large prints for us. Aside from his technical expertise, he has an excellent eye for color and came up with very appropriate frame and matt choices. We appreciated his judgment and suggestions, and the relaxed and friendly manner in which he conducts business. Without doubt, we will become repeat customers!

I’ve been taking our kids annual photos to Rick for 7 years now. He was originally in Danville and we have followed him to Martinez. He does high quality, excellent work. He has managed to also keep his prices affordable. We’re coming back for sure

Good quality framing is not cheap. I’ll go to Aaron’s or Cheap Pete’s if I want standard frames or a basic «poster» job, but it’s best to think of these places as I do Southwest Jewelry Stores. In other words, even at 50% off, do I really know what I’m getting for the price?
I needed an aerial photo from work framed and wanted to have it done in Martinez where my employer is located. Supporting local business is important whenever possible. Rick’s is a little hard to find, but it’s pretty much across the street from the Downtown Martinez Starbucks.
I found Rick to be friendly, engaging, and practical in terms of providing a quality and attractive frame at a good price. Rick is also into cars, which is a fascinating conversation in itself. The folks at work were really pleased, and the framed photo now occupies an honoured place in the Main Conference Room.
I was also impressed enough to bring return with a personal job — a cool map of Iceland and an inspirational dog-​themed print that Gayle recently purchased. Rick is also wise, as he suggested that I bring her in for that part of the job. Apparently, he also has extensive experience with redoing frames from well-​meaning husbands. :)

My husband bought a print in tribute to Mel Blanc entitled «Speechless,» and it portrayed several Looney Tunes characters standing in a tight group, staring at a microphone stand bathed in sunlight. The glossy print was mostly white, so I wanted a triple mat in colors that coordinated with the characters. I dropped off the print for Rick to evaluate & returned a few hours later to see what ideas he had come up with. The mat colors & frame couldn’t have been more perfect & were suitable for an adult male and not for a child’s room.
This may not sound like a big deal, but I needed this finished in less than a week, since framing this print was part of my anniversary gift to my husband. Had I not done this, who knows how many more months the print would’ve stayed in the mailing tube in our home office ;-)
But back to Rick, he has recently relocated his shop to Downtown Martinez. After being in Danville for several years, his prior landlord thought a Togo’s would be a better choice for that location. So wrong! There was a reason Rick had such a well-​established clientele in Danville. Yes … He is THAT good. Rick isn’t a part-​time college student working at a chain art/​framing store. He is an artist who takes pride in each and every piece he works on, whether that be with framing & matting, memory boxes, photo restoration, or other creative ways to enhance your keepsakes. He appreciates the sentimental value that we attach to our special items, and he treats them as if they were his own. You don’t get that kind of service elsewhere.
I strongly urge Rick’s former clientele to drive the extra 15 – 20 minutes to entrust him with your artwork & specialty items. Have you been to Downtown Martinez lately? I was pleasantly surprised at how appealing it is after my hairdresser moved to one of the many day spas that are opening in the area. Rick’s is on Main Street, and you’ll find plenty of parking in metered lots just around the first corner (25¢ per hour). There are boutiques, bistros and cafes opening all over downtown. And if you’re looking for antiques, there are several stores to browse. I tend to shop at the urban malls or Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek. But I was impressed with the restoration and businesses that attract many tourists to Downtown Martinez.
If you were a client of Rick’s at his former location, please remember why you gave him your business in the first place. I have no doubt you’ll be glad you drove a little further to Martinez when you see the perfection in the final product — rather than take it somewhere else & then have to return it or speak with management because the matting was crooked, the frame chipped, or because someone dripped coffee on your print. (Yes. That has happened to me.)
My husband is picky when it comes to artwork. When he saw the «Speechless» print framed & matted, his eyes welled up with tears because he was not at all expecting this as a gift, and he was genuinely happy & touched by the artistry that provided the perfect finishing touch to «Speechless.» Thank you, Rick, for helping make our anniversary even more special. And without question, we will be referring business your way. I have a feeling your Danville clients will definitely find their way to your new location.

I brought in a framed art piece that had been dropped and needed repair. Rick’s Place went above and beyond doing more work than I had expected and returned the piece looking brand new. Their charge was less than half the quote from Aaron Bros who did the original framing. Not only did they do a great job at a great price, they are really nice people! I’ll bring all my future framing t them.

Rick has framed many pieces for me the last couple of years, both in Danville and now in Martinez. I collect quality etchings and I am very particular about the framing and the matting. He has never disappointed me and in fact his expertise in framing, colors, matting, and glass is so good that he just takes it to a new level. Impressive.
I believe Rick is an artist in his own right. He has a very sharp eye for seeing color, hues, balance. He is quite talented in this. And the same goes for his sense of framing. Again, impressive. I never worry how a picture will turn out. It will be good.
Also important is that Rick does listen carefully to his client and tries hard to satisfy and accommodate. Beyond the artistic elements of framing, Rick is also acutely aware of cost factors and tries to meet the customer’s limits.
I would not even consider trying another framer.
I recommend Rick very highly.

My first experience with Rick was solid — I gave him some art and told him to use his judgement on how to frame them. Just looking around his shop, you can tell the man knows how to not only assemble frames but showcase your artwork. I was not dissapointed. His judgment was spot on and turned an old piece of piano music into a focal point on the wall. I have since done this with 4 other works, each different and each came back as expected — perfect. I’d recommend Rick to anyone looking for not only great frames, but someone with an eye for design.

This place is awesome! Rick knows what he’s doing and did a beautiful job mounting and framing some art work for my wife and I. There’s a ton of cool hot rod and custom culture art in his gallery, and Rick knows how to make it look great on the wall. I’d highly recommend Rick’s Place!

I’ve taken several pieces to Rick for framing and just told him to do what he thinks is best and every single time, the result was better than I could have imagined. Rick is so much more than a framer – he’s an artist whose talent shines through to everything he works on. He has an amazing eye and a true passion for his business and it certainly shows. On several occasions I have brought things into Rick for him to work his «magic» on. Everything from sports memorabilia, to photos, and even a pair of shoes. I never know what I want, so I just leave them with him and let him do what he does best! I have never been disappointed. He has such a creative eye — talent that make him more than a framer. I am an artist and I brought Rick a custom stretched canvas oil painting. I had a general idea of the presentation I desired for the framing of this particular piece, but Rick took it to a whole new level. The material he chose to frame the work not only complimented it but actually added to the overall composition. This was at his previous location in Danville, but he has since framed several more pieces of art for me and I just «let him do his thing». The man is a craftsman no doubt, but in my opinion an artist in his own right.

I’ve been using Ricks place for years… when he was in Danville, it was worth the drive from Benicia. Outstanding work and Rick is a very personable person !
Definitely worth 5 stars and a trip from anywhere in the Bay Area for custom framing. He also has a lot of really cool artwork on the walls!
