To many underwater weeds to fish. The Lake is gonna be a big weed pile if the DNR doesn’t do anything. Please save this Lake. It’s location is beautiful but fishing is almost impossible.

Came here for a short hike to «see the real West Virginia.» We had a nice time and enjoyed the views and trails. For folks looking for a place to hike, I will say that the trails aren’t super manicured– they’re mostly old jeep trails. But it’s a nice place to get outdoors. People do hunt here, but not on Sundays.

Sleepy Creek lake is managed by the West Virginia DNR, a Wildlife Management Area. Although near impossible to find, it sure is a spectacular find. The lake is absolutely beautiful and because it is a nationally regulated location, the wild life is fairly abundant, although hunting is a popular sport around these parts. The fishing is apparently impressive, but I wasn’t there for that. I went to Sleepy Creek Lake just for some relaxing hiking. We went a bit before the popular season and definitely lucked out. There are two campsites with approximately 4 spots each. The campgrounds are located directly on the lake with a spectacular view. Although it can get pretty chilly and night here in March, the day light was perfect. I couldn’t find a water pump. The trails weren’t cleaned up very well, but definitely a site I would like to return to for hiking. Hopefully it won’t get crowded as the season goes on.
