Music Man Square

First off, unless you are a sucker for musicals you will probably never know that this place even exists, unless of course you are from around that area. But if you are driving through and want to kill a couple of hours, stop by.
The cost is $ 6 for adults and gets you a tour of the museum, his boyhood home and you can hang out on the replica of the set.
The museum looked interesting but we didn’t get to spend much time there because so much of our available time was spent on the tour of the home.
Don’t get me wrong. I love old houses and I am knowledgeable about much of the basics of Queen Anne homes. But the fact that the tour lasted an hour and during much of it the tour guide was filling us in on things that really didn’t pertain to Willson. Yes, that wool swimsuit was a bad combination, but we didn’t drive to see a swimsuit of the period that wasn’t owned by anyone connected with Meredith Willson.
Between the hour tour and the twenty minute «Making of» video (you need a new tv that doesn’t have the ghosted image of «push play» hovering over it) we only got a quick look at the rest of the museum.
If anyone from the Square is reading this, tour needs tightening up. Perhaps the guide could say, «I’m available to answer any questions you have» and just let us look without telling us where the window pieces were located. Also, some of the best museums like this have more «hands on» type items.
We will come back some day, but we will plan on a longer time to visit.

music man square is a blast! if you love «the music man,» you will love hanging out here. the hall is a replica of river city even though the actual set was in hollywood. there is a fun museum, a great ice cream shop, and meredith willson’s boyhood home. for just six dollars, you can look around all of these (the museum was surprisingly well-​manicured and full) and get a guided tour of the home.
the meredith willson history is fascinating and the fake river city is abound with photo opportunities. you will not regret coming here!
