Johnnie’s Pastry Shop of Massillon

I am from Maryland and every time I come to town to visit family I come here to get my cream stick fix. There is so much cream you get almost gaggy toward the end of eating one, almost. The cream sticks also freeze well to save some for later. Their cookies are on the dry side, really liked the maple nut bar cookies. Staff very very friendly.

I did grow up here and I love it. I may not live in Massillon anymore but anytime I come back I have to get my fix of their wonderful chocolate cream sticks (or what some call long johns). They are huge and filled to the brim with vanilla crème. The dough is always homemade and is done old fashioned style, where it has a yellowish tint from the real eggs used. You will always get your moneys worth but if you aren’t from around here it just may not be your favorite kind of donut and that is just fine — more for the rest of us!
I will admit that some of their cookies can tend to be on the dry side so I usually just stick with the cream sticks!

I think you had to have grown up here to like this place. When my husband said I had to try the cream sticks (long johns) here when we were in town, I was excited to share a piece of his childhood. When I saw the cake portion of the donut was neon yellowish-​orange, I was a little put off but still kept an open mind. The chocolate icing is obviously homemade but it’s grainy which doesn’t go over well with me. The filling wasn’t very sweet or plentiful. Every time we go here, he has me try a bite but every time… pffft.
Last time I got a sugar cookie loaded with icing. Yeah baby, icing! How can you screw up a sugar cookie? Ask them. Soooo dry and tasteless even with the sweet buttercream frosting. I had the hubby try it and he agreed it was nasty. So I scraped off the icing and ate that and threw the cookie away. The only thing I ever got there that I liked was this pumpkin donut that they don’t carry all the time which was moist and tasty. The hubby will get donuts from there and we’ll freeze them for him at a later date. He won’t have to worry about me being tempted to break into them, that’s for sure!
