New owner makes people very uncomfortable. Many of us have chosen to spend our money elsewhere.

Stopped in here last night while out trying new places with my fiancé. We were a little scared at first, but once we were inside we had a good time! The bartender(Scott, I think?) was super friendly and told us it was a fun, laid back and safe place. All of that proved to be true! The place does look like a sailor bar, there’s lots of cool beachy stuff all over the place inside. There is a bowling game, darts, one pool table, and a jukebox. There are lots of colorful locals but they were all super friendly and welcoming. A random guy insisted I went to high school with him(did not) and ended up buying me a shot even though I couldn’t convince him I’d never met him before. Clean, fun, and interesting place! Beer is nice and cheap too, only a couple taps but toasted lager was one of them, and it was tasty! It’s a downer to order a toasted and have it be stale, which sometimes happens at dives, or even bigger places… but the toasted lager at sand bar was as fresh as any I’ve had! They also sell buckets of bottles for $ 8 or $ 9, four bottles to a bucket. Not bad for Long Island! Anyway we live relatively close to here so I’m sure we’ll be back. Great dive bar!

If you ever want to get away from the Long Island bar scene and really just relax and kill a few, than this is the quiet and cozy sailor bar that you wanna go to(even tho the bartender told me it wasn’t a sailor bar, I’m gonna go ahead and call it a sailor bar. Because let’s face it. Everyone wants to be a sailor).

Sounds like it has not changed much from 1975… except beers were a quarter… pool table was old then and the bowling game was older.

this place is awesome. it is everything a dive bar should be without the irony. williamsburg«dive» bars wish they could be this cool. $ 3 bud bottles. bowling game with the sand on the alley. multiple dartboards. pool table. dusty bottles of crème de cacao. surly yet really friendly locals who get their mail here. not much else needs to be said about this place. definitely my new spot when i’m out there.
