A & P Food Store

This store is disgusting, hot, and lacks ample refrigeration. The staff is friendly but lacks management and professionalism. This is the closest supermarket to my house but I’ll drive out of my way for fresh food and a little customer service.

A great place to stop for a quick couple of ingredients for dinner. Maybe some milk. Oh wait it was on a shelf 6 feet high, and in the back and I couldn’t reach it. Ok, bread and eggs.
The store kinda screams mismanagement. At 7:15 pm there were no employees on the floor except for at the registers and one harried overworked employee at the customer server counter.
The produce department had bagged potatoes and bagged apples in with the lettuce section. I wondered if they were sprayed with water like the other produce.
The bakery department was dark, except for two employees who’d already clocked out, complaining about their store.
The dairy case had my milk, high overhead, where I couldn’t reach it. There were no call buttons for help. Walking down to deli and meat showed there were no employees anywhere. I didn’t want to go to customer service because it was on the far side of the store. Made a mental note to pick up milk at the Shop Rite tomorrow, along with a number of other items I made a mental list of.
I handed the cashier my bags, but for some reason everything was put in plastic bags, except for the stuff I managed to bag myself. I tried to rebag from the plastic to fabric, but the cashier needed to move on to the next customer and told me to go to the dreaded «customer service» counter for a bag credit — which I did. And wouldn’t have bothered with if I’d known it would take 10 minutes, and only resulted in a 14 cent credit. THEN I had to figure out how to properly dispose of the plastic bags I didn’t want to take with me.
Employees are nice, because I remember them from bygone days under better management. Now they are either somber or sullen or just plain quiet.

Meh indeed. They have some good sale items. Their meats always look good.
Beware the produce. I’ve bought some very bad produce there, onions rotten on the inside, potatoes black in the middle. That sort of thing.

This a&p is consistent and reliable. I’ve been doing the majority of my grocery shopping here for years.
