I used to work down the street from Windsor Square. Actually way back when, I used to live down here too. Anyway, I always thought this shopping center was laid out strange. The roads in the parking lot go to dead ends. The shopping center is laid out in angles that just don’t work well for traffic. And getting in and out is a pain the A$$ even if you found the exits in the back. Like any center the anchors and stores have changed over the years. Kohls replaced Home Quarters which was my favorite home improvement store back in the day. There used to a PharMor, Waccamaw, and a Pet Stuff store that I loved here. Now you have Furniture Row Outlet, Office Depot, Ross, Sam’s Club and a plethora of restaurants including Monterrey Mexican, Elliots barbecue, McDonald’s, Outback. Lots of other shopping options abound and an Exxon gas station/convenience store. If the center were better accessible and the parking lot laid out better, it might have gotten a better rating from me.

It is only appropriate to write about Windsor Square today, what with the Royal Wedding and all. Other than the name, to my knowledge this shopping center has nothing to do with the British Monarchy. The one thing interesting is that while most shopping centers, even small ones, have plenty of places to eat, this one has a ton — Azteca, Captain D’s, Chen Fu, Cici’s, Eliot’s, Firehouse, Hibachi Buffet, McDonald’s, Monterrey, Outback, Subway. Even more are close by. Aside from the huge food selection and the horrible parking lot, the center itself is decent. There are a handful of other shops, mostly larger chains, which generally stay fairly stable, and offer a reasonable selection. Unlike a mall, you typically are going to one place(say, Office Depot, Petsmart or Sam’s) and are unlikely to simply wander about. Mostly because of that parking lot. It is too dangerous. Though now that I think about it, the fact that the parking lot is such a mess could certainly be explained by it being designed by someone who drove on the other side of the road, so maybe there is a relationship to the British — or perhaps they are trying to infiltrate our society. It is definitely not friendly for anyone, and maneuvering inside the lot has to be one of the worst experiences in the city.
