Wow. Very, very surprised. Don’t let the dive-y ness and old fast-food restaurant fool you. Almost everything was homemade. Dinner rolls the size of my head, delicious burgers, homestyle dinners that my parents loved. It fixed a case of the hangrys way better than any fast food could. Skip the salad though, unless your dying for some iceberg lettuce. Well done, small town!!!

Very good… So much better than fast food… Greek salad, Gyro wrap, chicken breast sandwich, & two piece chicken… All excellent! Excellent service from Melissa.

Huge portions, friendly service and great flavor! An Italian beef on homemade hoagie, chicken dumpling soup and fresh bread, Cole slaw! I could only eat half, but already looking forward to left overs and all for less than $ 10! A true find!

Just a block from Culver’s, but what a difference. Lasagna was great. Roast beef sandwich, spectacular. Not fast food but definitely worth a few extra minutes.

Small town restaurant with delicious food, and very affordable prices! My husband and I stopped in for lunch and were so happy we did. Beers are only $ 3, and sandwiches for $ 8. Brought home a whole bag of leftovers due to the big portions(as did all the other guests too). Can’t wait to go back again!

This place is magical! The food was truly amazing: nearly everything is made from scratch, including salad dressings, GIANT homemade rolls, and homemade butter! We had soups, salads, pasta, and meat dishes, and we were totally floored by the quality, value, and service. We loved it so much we went back for breakfast the next day! The skillets and omelets and pancakes and French toast were outstanding. We had two servers, Jessie and Tammy, and they were absolutely wonderful in every way! I am planning a trip back to Mauston just to go eat here again. I’m sure they will be famous soon and mobbed with tourists, so go before you can’t get a table!

Several local businesses recommended the Roman Castle as a good place to eat. So six of us piled in on a Saturday winter afternoon. We were warmly greeted and several waitresses came by to chit chat with us and give bar recommendations for the upcoming evening. Gyros and solid and so are the quesadillas.

Stopped on a whim. Pleasantly surprised. Decent food, fair pricing, Nothing real special but in this area decent restaurants are few and far between. Worth a stop.

VALUE. On my way to Madison I wanted to stop for a meal; I try to find local spots and the Roman Castle came up first on Unilocal. The staff were super friendly and the menu offered more than you’d expect: burgers, pastas, pizzas and other entrees. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger. It comes rather well done if you don’t specify. Burgers, at $ 7, come with fries, a bowl of soup, and a large warm dinner roll. Together it was all a bit much to finish. The soup(minestrone) was ok. The noodles were soft. I give 4 for the surprisingly good service and value. Support local.

Really awesome food and service!!! Stopped here on our way to a Badger football game. Our server, Tammy, seemed to know the menu and was very helpful. I had the Italian Beef. Might be the best sandwich I have ever had. The chicken dumpling soup was really good, too! Not to mention the softball-sized dinner rolls! Will definitely stop again when we are in the area.

This is probably not someone I would pick if I just drove by, the parking lot could use attention. The wait staff were quick and friendly and the menu is varied and value priced. The meal came with a homemade roll bigger than a cats head. We started off with seafood chowder that was amazing and flavorful. There is a senior menu for those 60 that is $ 7.95 and has a wide selection. We ordered fried chicken and it was delightful. We would stop here again if we ever get back this way. If you like home cooking, this is the place for you, don’t let the exterior chase you away, the inside is clean and delightful.

Clean & friendly, with a good selection. Has beer & wine too. I like the fact that it’s an independent. If I’m ever in the area again I’ll stop back. … Just a side note… Breakfast is only served in the morning…

Our order arrived promptly, our server, Tammy, was tremendous and very nice. She took our order quick and our food arrived quickly as advertised and as we ordered. I have been here a few other times when we travel to Mauston and it is always a friendly, open, family restaurant. The breakfast, as well as dinner is great. The servers are always friendly. Nice establishment in this small town, especially when there are not many family places. It’s nice to be able to eat a nice, home-cooked, meal when on vacation in this area. The atmosphere is nice, as well. Highly recommended.

A strong, non-chain restaurant. I recommend to anyone looking for a homecooked meal. If I am in Mauston again, I will return. Homemade bread and soup was so tasty. Huge menu offers something for everyone. Italian beef, burgers, fettucine alfredo, meatball sandwich, chicken parmesan and patty melt were all reported as delish. The BLT was underwhelming to someone who wanted more bacon on board, and a grilled cheese was partially soaked in the pickle juice garnish. Not bad given 30+ of us traveling for baseball popped in unannounced to get out of the heat between baseball games nearby. Service wasn’t perfect, but it was friendly and accommodating. We helped speed up ordering & accuracy by writing our own orders on the backs of paper place mats which also simplified billing by family. We bussed a few of our own dishes. Still, happy to support a small, local business.

Had not been up here since the remodeling was finished and I was very impressed with the new look. The menu was good and diverse and something refreshing for the area. I personally had the chicken bacon ranch pizza and loved it. So much better than any box pizza place option.

Read the fish fry reviews, we decided to give it a try. They have a special menu with a lot of selections at reasonable price. The meal comes with a huge roll and choice of soup or salad. All you eat cod was delicious. I was too full to take a second helping of the fish that was offered by our friendly waitress. I did ask if I could get a cinnamon roll to take home. Unfortunately we were there too early as they were just getting started baking them. The owner does all the baking which accounts for the freshness. This will be a regular place for us to go

Stopped here after finding that Martha’s Lyndon Station was closed. Waitress was friendly and food was good. Had corned beef hash skillet and strawberry pancakes. Eggs were cooked as orders but hash towns were a bit soggy.
