This is my second time back here & it is still just as great food as the first time we went. I decided to try something different & I was glad I did! We had a appetizer special that was feta cheese wrapped in dough & honey on top. It was cooked beautifully. Next for my main course I had pork kabobs. OMG! they were so tender you can cut them with a fork. Did I mention there chicken lemon soup. M M good. I’m just getting hungry talking about it. But I do suggest reservations due to there are limited seating. Plus BYOB! I see the cat is out of the bag because there was waiting room only last night but well worth the wait!

Ate here recently. Ordered the jerk chicken, mac and cheese and the potatoe salad. While it all tasted ok, i had a few qualms. The first being that for the price i paid expected my chicken to consist of more than Bones and fatty drumstick skin. The second being that while the mac and cheese was indeed edible, it was kinda dry. Lastly, the potatoe salad was something i couldn’t eat. Im not a fan of vinegar.

When she first open the restaurant I went and tried to a chicken it was the best large portions 4 a small price. Went labor day and the chicken was dry under seasoned my mother-in-law got the oxtail and was dissatisfied. We ended up throwing it in the cabage. What a waste of money, also, the 45 minutes wait is ridiculous.

I can not say enough about this place. It’s hard to find ox tail in NJ but we finally came across this little place. The workers are SO nice. Sometimes they close early if they don’t have any food or whatever so call before you go but wow. Everything is amazing here from the beef pattys to ox tail to jerk chicken, you name it!

Had the jerk chicken, curry chicken, and mac-n-cheese. Chicken was moist, delicious, and perfectly seasoned. Mac-n-cheese was great, a little crust on top and cheesy on the inside! Can’t wait to try the oxtail next time.

It was a rainy Saturday a couple weeks ago, spent the early morning running errands… to wrap it up, I decided to grab some lunch before heading inside. I felt like a Jamaican cuisine; some oxtails, peas and rice, cabbage… you know what I’m saying. I was told there was a spot called Angie’s Place in Maywood, so I took a drive over. A young man in the kitchen fixed up two platters; a large plate of Oxtails and small plate of Chicken, which came to about/approx. $ 30. Of the 5 people eating, 4 had diarrhea. The chicken was completely spoiled, and went straight in the garbage. The oxtails edible, but turned the stomach of one person. As we were exiting the store, the young man who served us said the food was so good, we’d be back… young Sir, I think not.

The food is delicious! I came here for my father and boyfriends birthday and had a private dinner; just us. I had stew snapper and it was the biggest and tastiest fish I ever tasted, and my parents had the escovitch fish, and bf had the oxtail; which was also good, a little on the spicy side though. The homemade ginger beer/drink was on point! I’m stuffed… it is still a new restaurant and quite small, but in all food is good. O

Picked up from Angie’s for the first time recently. Food was very tasty. Had oxtail, goat curry, and the jerk chicken. Could have used a little more spice on the jerk chicken, but it was still delicious. Definitely more of a take-out joint like many Caribbean places. I’d definitely come back for more.

Ambiance/Décor/Atmosphere: Maywood Ave around this area is pretty dark, but coincidentally Angie’s Place is directly across the street from Phở Thai Lao, which is another very good Laos/Southern Thai restaurant. The inside of Angie’s Place has a buffet counter for the Sunday buffet, a wait counter, and two tables for small parties. The dining room is very eye appealing, decorated from the heart as if we were in Jamaica. You can feel Angie’s heart and soul in the décor. Noise/sound level: There was a party of six inside, but I ordered take out so what I heard was standard conversation. I don’t expect there to be any type of sound issues during repeat visits. Menu: Nice mix of standard West Indie fare, soul food, and some specialty cuisine probably more common on the islands. There is a breakfast section, Sunday buffet section, Saturday fun day type of menu deal, and your run of the mill lunch/dinner menu. Service: Seriously the warmest, friendliest, most inviting, most welcoming, and most grateful bunch of staff I’ve ever seen in one restaurant. Everyone acknowledges you from counter help to Angie herself from the kitchen. You really feel like a part of the family here. Food: I ordered a medium jerk chicken and it came with plantains, steamed cabbage and carrots, and rice with peas. The chicken was stewed lovely, not overly seasoned like some jerk chickens can be, not really spicy either so people of all heat levels can enjoy it. The accompaniments were also done well too, but one thing that stands out is the portion size. The medium is large enough for someone to have left overs, so I bet the large is large enough to split with someone else. Bar: BYOB Price: The pricing is in the patron’s favor, and is reasonable across the board. Overall: Super excited to have a «local» West Indian cuisine establishment. I usually have to resort to getting curry goat or oxtails when I visit my family in Delaware, but not anymore. Looking forward to returning frequently for more.

We recently came back from vacationing in Jamaica and had the craving for some jerk chicken and festival. We found Angie ‘s Place online and decided to give it a try. We ordered jerk chicken, festival and beef patties and it all was incredible. We will definitely be going back again.

Went for my birthday dinner. Let me just say, at first — not sure what to expect. The lighting around the place made it a bit hard to find, but it’s like finding a treasure. Once we were there, our expectations were blown out of the water. The place is spic-n-span and very welcoming. The staff is amazing — so friendly, courteous, so helpful without being overbearing. Angie is A-MAZING! She comes out, she greets, she chats — AND she cooks. What a wonderful woman. It was chilly, so we didn’t order but did receive bowls of split pea soup. You could taste the peas and some pumpkin– it had a kick and definitely did a great job of warming us up. And then there’s the food. We got a few orders of oxtail and jerk chicken served with rice and peas, some cabbage and a few slices of plantain. Great great food. So flavorful, so delicious, and so very very tender. And nothing tasted like it’s been left on the back burner. Very tasty and fresh. DEFINITELY going back. I hope you give this wonderful place a shot ;-) Catch you at Angie’s Place

Living several blocks away we decided to give this local eatery a try. We were a party of 8. We are so happy we didn’t pass this place up. First off, the Proprietor, Angie is one of the nicest ladies you will ever meet ! She is also the Chef. We ordered Family style. Being 8, we got to try a variety of food. Everything was delicious and as fresh as can be. Not one person in our group had anything negative to say about anything on the table! We are lucky to have this local eatery walking distance. If you are able to put any opinions you may have aside when you walk into this restaurant, you will be delighted by a great meal prepared by a lovly lady ! Thank Angie !!! Felix

I love this place! When I first noticed the restaurant it had just opened. I saw the bright colored walls so I figured it was Caribbean food. I called to see what they had and then walked over. My mother and I were warmly welcomed and we looked over the menu. We ordered a large oxtail that came with rice and Peas and plantains. Amazing! Angie is very friendly and you can see her in the kitchen cooking up her very tasty dishes. She comes out to greet you with a big smile. I have also tasted the curry chicken from here. also good.

Live really close to this place so figured we had to try it. First thing, the food was excellent. There were three of us. We ordered a large jerk chicken and a large oxtail, which was more than enough for there hungry people when you take the sides into account. The jerk chicken had a good spicy kick to it which I liked. The ox tail dish probably wasn’t the healthiest dish on the menu, but if that’s not an issue for you, definitely try it. Real authentic food and genuine people. I give it a four because the dine in service wasn’t that great. The management seems to be learning as they go. We’ll probably get delivery next time. Hoping to have them cater a gathering for us in the future. Enjoy!
