I am so glad that there is a Golden Chick near where I live. Granted its on the other side of the highway, but that’s okay. There is just something delicious about their chicken tenders and catfish that I just have to get my fixins every so often, and this particular location does not disappoint at all. Love you Golden Chick and your lotta zing of MSG heaven.

Good food, horrible service. Slowest drive thru in north Texas. If you’re really hungry, take something to eat while you wait on your order. If you think you’re really gonna get the roll that comes with your combo, think again. Si Espanol, no Bueno.

Used to be great… These days the chicken is slimy and the gravy is watered down. Oh and it’s not cheap on your wallet. Go down 380 a bit and you’ll find a much better Golden Chick.

I stopped here because I was waiting for an appointment about a block away. As far as fried chicken is concerned, it is fried chicken. It was so greasy that it was gross. There was some other dude in the restaurant when I was there that looked like a little gangster hitting on the help. There was that idiot and myself and we are the only customers until the mailman came in. I guess he is regular. This place is a dump and I suspect that the best thing that could happen would be for it to be leveled. I am rather curious if they could pass an inspection. The place really is gross.

On food alone this place would be three stars(I always try and rate chains like this on the quality of their food, and golden chick is «alright» in the chicken biz) but what bumped it up to four stars was the guys working here, and the experience I had. Let me paint you a picture… it’s Christmas Eve, it’s raining/drizzling and cold, hubby and I have just moved into our new house and have no food in it, and I go out in search of food. It is late and all of the old reliables are closed. But wait, what do I see? A glimmering golden light in the middle of an otherwise despondent street? It’s Golden Chick! Inside it’s dingy exterior, it has a cracked floor where water has pooled, their ice cream dispenser is leaking a steady stream of sugary paste which is forming a milky puddle under a box of… something. I contemplate leaving and going back out into the night, but then a big smile, a hearty«Hey there!» from the big guy behind the counter and I’m hooked. I list things off the menu in a torrent, trying to order enough to last a day or two so we could forage in our empty fridge. He suggests rolls(okay!), and corn nuggets(what are those? sure.), spicy chicken(yes please!), but non-spicy for the husband, mashed potatoes, mac n’ cheese, and catfish(why of course!). and what is the total? He reads off the exact amount of cash I have, and I look forlorn up at him«How much is a Dr. Pepper?.. Oh… I guess I can leave behind the corn nuggets, as interesting as they sound…». He grins, hands me a cup, and says«It’s just a soda, go ahead, don’t worry about the change.» We chit chat about family and what he’ll be doing for Christmas, he hums as he bags up my food(it looks like it could feed an army?), the old man in the corner says«Have a good night, ma’am», and I don’t feel scared at all. Could it be I’m not living in sketch-town parts of Dallas anymore? Kindness does exist! It’s a freakin’ Christmas Miracle! I sing on my way home, munching on delicious bits of warm cornbread with kernels of corn inside, sweet and savory on my tongue on this silent night, and I realize there are good places in the world, even in the darkest of places on empty streets, even inside chicken shacks like the Golden Chick.
