The food was good service was strange. Korean TV show that was showing was a trip. We were ignored for the most part. Seems like they didn’t really care that we were there.

Excellent Korean food. We tried the rice hash in the stone pot. Crispy on edges. 2nd dish was BBQd beef. Comes with several sides. A little heat but easy on the gut.

I would put negative stars if I could. The food was gross. They wouldn’t take it back. Lady was yelling about her cost, and forced me to pay for food that physically made my stomach hurt. I like Korean food. I’ve had wonderful experiences, just not here. Don’t waste your time or money

I love the quaint small restaurant feeling of this restaurant. Food is like a mother’s cooking, makes me all warm and happy inside!

Pros — Food quality is ok considering its location in a small town — Provide free bottled waters Cons — Portions are extremely small — Over-priced for quality and portion — Seafood-anything lacks seafood substantially — Service is slow Definitely would not come back or recommend to anyone.

Excellent! Reminds me of another restaurant in El Paso. Love the service. Feels like my grandma’s kitchen!

Great place. This place has good food at a great price. The place has a kitsch-y feel to it. The food was great, a great array of Korean food.

Yet another gem in the valley! Although small, Nak Won Jung is a cozy restaurant with a huge tv screen where you can watch korean shows while you wait. Try the roasted mackerel thats full of healthy flavor with tasty banchan. I was a little disappointed when the owner said that they werent serving naeng myon(cold buckwheat noodles) on one of the hottest days of the year… but maybe it will become available later. It was a good sign seeing other koreans were eating there too! Can’t wait to try the grilled meats.

Perhaps my expectations were too high after reading the Unilocal reviews. My partner in crime summed it up perfectly: «Maybe we’ve just had too much GOOD food; that was just another meal.» We arrived for lunch on Saturday around 12:30 and were the only patrons other than a family of 8 dining in the corner. A lady appeared from the kitchen and immediately motioned us to be seated, but it took awhile for her to take our order and she didn’t even bother to ask us if we wanted drinks.(She seemed to be serving AND cooking so I can cut her some slack). When she finally came back, BF tried to order the bulgogi but she said the ribs were«more better» so he changed. I ordered the dol so bap bibimbap. The food was nothing special. The portion of ribs was shockingly small and didn’t look anything like what was pictured. The taste was pretty mediocre.(Good thing he didn’t order the bulgogi if this was supposed to be better). The bibimbap was okay, but the bottom was completely burned. I’ve had this dish before, but never had it burned. It doesn’t taste so good burned. There were plenty of side dishes though and that was cool. I liked the dried squid the best. I might be willing to try this restaurant again, but most likely I’ll just go someplace else instead.

This is the third Korean place I have tried in McAllen and by far my favorite of the 3. I like the old school Korean shiktang feel. The panchan was delicious and varied. I tried Makeral, Bibimbahp, and beef soup with soju and beer. There is Seoul Mart across the parking lot so I got some groceries after dinner.

Place is hard to find to start off with. When we walked in we were seated in the corner hidden from the main area. seem like we were in a cubicle. Took over 5 minutes to get the menu, and the lady even asked us if we wanted a menu? it would be nice to have one as i heard that. The menu is awful. no pictures at all to represent what to eat. luckily we have eaten korean food before, but for 1st timers new to korean food, there is no way to tell what is what. i had the bulgogi and meat didnt seem that well marinated. The bimbibap was okay, but still lacked flavor than what i’ve tasted from other places. i would prefer seoul house than here.

Its a mom and pop restaurant. They are sweet and try to accommodate your choices. The staples bulgogi and mixed rice(bibimbab) are very good. The portions are generous and the flavor is packed. The tokpokkee was nicely condimented w sweet spicy red sauce. It is a Korean rice cake that is mixed w veggies and meat. They brought the grill to cook on the table w plenty meat barbequed pork and pork belly. No wayyy to go wrong w meat *rawr* it was devoured within seconds. The amount of side dishes ranging from kimchi to marinated shredded squid was surprising especially for lunch. The nice owner cooked the meat for us :) which reminds me… never wear white clothing to eat Korean lol! Beware of the annoying red spots you might find on your clothing after you finish. hummm??? Anyways give a try.
