i disagree with the last writer. i attented this church for good 15 years and i will not call it our lady of dollars. our lord house deserves the best we can give him if we are able to too; from elaborate building to dressing up nicely. this church is not overdone and i feel people should dress up when visiting god house why not?

Beautiful church, but does kind of own up to its slang name «Señora de los Dólares» (Our Lady of Dollars). Marble floor to ceiling, mahogany pews and dozens of golden chandeliers make it a little overwhelming and questionably hypocritical. 11:00 service on Sundays sometimes feels like fashion week instead of mass.
On the plus side, though, services are well attended and very nice. 11:00 and 12:30 masses have a full choir throughout and holiday masses are sights to be seen. Msgr. Gus is an EXCELLENT leader and gives intelligent and enlightening homilies every weekend.
I’d say try it out and see if it’s for you. If not, St. Jude’s in Pharr is a great alternative and my personal favorite.
