This place is great, and one of the last full comic book stores around in this area. The few others in the area you may find are much smaller and generally have mostly new stuff. Al’s has a lot of backstock, rare and limited issues, plus graphic novels and other merchandise like T-Shirts and action figures. If you have them put a monthly ‘hold’ on comics for you you will get a discount; 10% I believe. Though that was a few years ago when I was still collecting comics. One other nice perk — you do not have to pay for bags and boards. Some places make you pay extra for those on new releases. The selection is very large, and includes all the Marvel and DC stuff, but also a big selection of Dark Horse, and indie stuff. There is also a small selection of comic books aimed for younger viewers if you find the regular stuff too violent or whatnot. The staff here is knowledgeable, fun, and easy going. It does not matter your age, sex, or geekiness level — everyone is welcome. On a side note, Al has passed on earlier this year, but the place has every bit of his spirit in there. If you live within reasonable driving distance, this WILL be your comic book go-to place.

There’s not much more you’d want in your local comic book store! The staff and owner are friendly and helpful, always willing to help you find what you need. The selection appeals to a wide variety of readers, and I never felt out of place being a girl there. Sometimes at comic book stores I get strange looks as if I’m lost or perhaps trying to find some comic about glittering vampires. I was always happy to come here when I was living in the area.

Al and his staff are not only knowledgeable but also get to know each and every one of their customers personaly. Very shortly after visiting the store for the first time, I was being greeted by name. They make you feel welcome and remember the titles you like. I have been a loyal customer ever since. I whole heartedly reccomend Al’s shop to anyone with an intrest in comics, science fiction or, my favorite, time travel.

I come here because: 1) Good selection 2) Reliable, free pull service 3) Knowledgeable staff 4) Nice well-kept shop 1) Good selection of back issues and trades. This is the only place I’ve seen that carries adult titles(The Boys, MAX titles) as well as kid-friendly fluff(Archie, Sonic, etc.). I can usually find obscure indie titles here and re-order any issues or series I missed through Previews. 2) Weekly pull service is free with a minimum number of monthly books(some small number — I’m way over it). You get a 10% discount on books and other merchandise with a pull. Free bags and boards are a nice touch when you like to store your stories for later reading. 3) The staff are actual comic geeks that somehow learned social skills. You can talk to them about books including non-mainstream titles. They actually know what the hell you’re talking about and make pretty good recommendations for related story lines. 4) The place is somehow impeccably clean. I’m pretty sure there’s some sort of voodoo black magic prayer type of thing to the demons of Scrubbing Bubbles and Oreck Vacuums, but it’s a nice surprise to walk into a comic shop that doesn’t smell like adolescent BO and Cheetos. A really nice comic shop overall. It’s a great place to stop by for a weekly comic fix.
