The food was great… very well done. I’m disappointed that as a first time customer the rules were not explained to me. My son and I had the all you can eat $ 15.99 lunch. We order a couple of rolls to begin with and then order again. Needless to say my eyes were bigger then my stomach. When the wait staff came to take away our plates they informed us of the«Resturant policy»…$.75 per left over piece! The wait staff that sat us told us nothing about the policy. They had very thick accents and did not speak very clearly. I asked why no one had shared the«policy», this was our first time in the Resturant ever??? They then said they would not charge us, but then came back and said the manager was not here so if they didn’t charge me it would come out of their check. I paid and tipped the staff, then asked that the manager call me. When I spoke with the manager the customer service was no better. In very broken English she kept repeating the«policy». We won’t eat there again. Customer service is important.

We have been coming here for several years, and this place does not disappoint. We are not sushi-elitists or snobs, and we like to have choices when eating sushi without having to fork over $ 100/person. So we like reputable all you can eat(ayce) places. You get to try a bunch of different things and still walk away without an additional mortgage payment :). King is just great! They do not use fistfuls of rice over tiny slivers of fish, instead they adhere to traditional sized sushi pieces, and everyone is happy. The service is fine, and the food quality is good. Too bad they only have the one location, otherwise I would love to have one closer to the Vernon Hills /Mundelein area! Definitely try this place — if you are into ayce, you will love it!

We just left sushi king. Our family went for a mother’s day dinner. We love sushi. We have be to this restaurant a few time and have been happy. Today during dinner I complemented the waitress that the rice was excellent on my sushi pieces. We where having an fantastic dinner till my husband pointed out that a employee was picking his face behind the sushi bar for about 15 min. before mentioning it to me. I stared at him for 5 minutes. Every second my stomach stared to turn. I couldn’t finish my meal. I found it disgusting that he just picked and picked his face and flicked stuff from his hand behind the raw food preparation station. We told the waitress about it, they said«it’s okay he’s not working» The health department would probably be interested in this and will be hearing from my husband. We paid our bill and left discussed.

Really fresh sushi and rolls. This place is pretty deceptive. From the outside it looks like a crappy chinese buffet. When you walk in however, you are pleasant surprised. It is clean, has a really nice atmosphere, and the ponds are a nice touch. The sushi is fresh, the maki rolls are really good, and the drinks are pretty good… at least the Mai Tais. I guess they also have all you can eat sushi, which I didn’t do. But the price seemed pretty reasonable for all you can eat. Don’t let the outside fool you. Get past it and go inside. You will be pleasantly surprised.

I’ve only been here once. I thought the ambiance was ok, considering its in a strip mall. But when I got home, I was really sick. As in the bathroom sick. And that never happens to my iron stomach. I’ll never go back, as it’s not worth the risk. And Sakura is just fine(and just down the street).

Real good! I had the 21.00 all you can eat sushi. I ordered water to drink, it was good tasting filtered water as well. I should to have taken pix of the food… Well presented, and fresh taste. You order the sushi and then it is prepared fresh. It is worth the wait! Average amount to order 20 – 30 pieces if you are a hungry guy! Remember to order what you can eat as they up charge if you do not eat it all! It was no problem for me to eat it all! I wish they had more veggie roles on the 21.00 menu… It is all about the rice! I will be back!

You better eat all of your all you can eat sushi or they will cut your hands off! Or at least that’s how it felt. I really liked this place. The atmosphere is unexpected for the run down strip mall that it is in. The sushi and maki was fresh and the all you can eat price is actually cheap, especially for someone who can put away some fish. However, when I ordered a third helping, they got a little weird. I get it, tuna and salmon aren’t cheap. But don’t have an all you can eat if you don’t really want it to be all you can eat. All you can eat shouldn’t be looked at per individual but as an average over time. For example, my 15 year old son got the all you can eat and probably ate 5 pieces max. Anyways, make sure you eat all that you order because they will charge you for whatever is left over. And if you order a lot be prepared to be watched to make sure you eat it all. I’m going to give Sushi King another try soon because the food was good and the atmosphere was cool… and for the record I plan on eating a boat load of all you can eat sushi!!!

Went for the AYCE sushi dinner with my wife. Sat at sushi bar. service was quick and polite. sushi chefs all appeared to be japanese, which I felt added to the authenticity of the japanese theme they are mostly successful at creating. the menu is interesting and you can tell they used a computer translator to creare the menu… calling the house salad«home» salad, which I thought was both cute and entertaining. there is a long list of appetizers on the AYCE menu which were were delicious and quickly delivered even though the were very busy. The sushi rolls were all fresh with great tasting fresh fish, perfectly tasting rice, and well balanced and proportioned ratios of fish, rice, and vegetables. Definitely give sushi king a try.

After moving farther away it’s been several months since I’ve been able to make a trip here, but this past weekend I did looking forward to the all you can eat sushi. Price and selection remained essentially the same, but I did notice that a lot of the staff had changed, where as before it was always the same people every time I had visited. I was meeting a friend that I hadn’t seen in a few weeks and we caught up over sushi. The staff was friendly, but in sort of an off-putting way. Our food came quickly each time we ordered and it was very good, though not exactly as we had remembered it from all of our previous visits. When we were done they brought the checks and we paid, both leaving them a good tip, and sat to chat a while longer. We had been sitting maybe 15 minutes after we had paid our bill when the waitress seemingly begrudgingly came over and asked if we wanted a refill on our waters. I said yes, and she almost seemed surprised but refilled them anyway. We sat and talked for another few minutes when we noticed that the waitresses and bus-staff were staring at us from behind the counter. I would completely understand them wanting to ‘shoo’ us out if the restaurant was full and there were people waiting for tables, but the place was not even a quarter full and there were plenty of other open booths available also. It was making us uncomfortable so we gathered our things and left and before we had even walked a few feet from the table the bus girl rushed over to clean it up. The food was still good an the staff ok, but we just didn’t have that warm and friendly experience that we’ve been accustomed to when coming here.

This was the first time i have ever gone out for sushi, and it was a great experience at Sushi King. My wife and I did the all you can eat. And we were quite pleased with the quality and portions that were served. We will definitely go back again!

Best sushi I’ve found in the NW burbs since moving from the city to McHenry a year ago. Don’t let the Unilocal stars fool you, this place is much better/fresher than Sakura down the street. Inside is super cute, and you’d never guess it from the outside. Highly recommend if you’re in the area craving some sushi.

If service, and order accuracy were better this would be a 4 star review. The restaurant is quaint, and the Koi pond a lovely touch. The all you can eat dinner menu has just about you could ask for, and the $ 20.99 price is very reasonable. Food is good, and presented nicely. Service was disappointing though. After filling out our order forms, we waited for close to 10 minutes for someone to take them. One of the appetizers never appeared, even though we asked several times about it. Two of us ordered seaweed salad as an appetizer, and both portions were served on one plate which we had to push back and forth to eat… just odd. When ordering more, we always had to flag a server down to take our order form after waiting patiently for them to take it. The restaurant was not overly busy as it was a Tuesday evening, and staff walked by our booth numerous times with our order sheets clearly in sight. After I signed for the meal, our server reached over to the inside seat I was in and grabbed the receipt and pen out of my hand pretty rudely. Just felt like our group was more of an annoyance to them than anything. I will return for the food, but now am prepared to not expect too much friendly service.

Absolutely love this place! From the outside it doesn’t look like much because it’s in a strip mall. But the inside is very nice, clean, and new looking. I think bathrooms tell a lot about a restaurant and theirs is nicely decorated and spotless! Now the food! Wow its amazing! I always get the sushi all you can eat lunch or dinner special. The sushi is always fresh and delicious! My friend drives from Carpentersville once a month to meet me for lunch because it’s so good. Great food, great prices, great décor!

I went early on a weekday, there were not many other people there so it was quiet. I was served quickly as well because of that. Had the AYCE dinner even though it was lunch. The place is nice, the servers are too. The variety of options on the AYCE menu was pretty good compared to the other places I’ve been.

A group of friends and I have been coming here bi-weekly for a few years now for the all-you-can-eat sushi. The quality has ranged from okay to great, it really depends on the time you go. I’ve noticed that later during dinner time there is a much better chance of the sushi being fresh. A majority of the time however, it is good stuff, especially for the price and the sheer variety. Though the quality isn’t always the greatest, it’s nice to pay a set fee and get as much sushi as you want. The all you can eat menu also provides some good appetizers such as gyoza or edemame. The service is decent. They know my group and I by face now and seem to treat us a little worse since they know we will come back anyways, but it isn’t much of a bother. Come here if looking for some decent sushi for a good price, just make sure its a bit later in the day.

This place totally deserves a better review then what it is given. Me and my friends go out to sushi bars all over northern Illinois, and this is the best place we can find. Sometimes when it gets busy, yes it takes awhile for the rolls and everything to come out. As far as variety and taste selection go however, it is the best place to come for all you can eat sushi yet. I’ve been to Sakura’s in Villa Park, Hokkai in Glen Elyn, Yue Sun in Wood Dale, and I always choose to come to this one if I felt like I wanted to get my money’s worth. Update, went to Kobe in alqonquin. Didn’t even come close to sushi king. Keep up the great work here guys :)

If you want a lot of variety, the all-you-can-eat gives you the most bang for your buck. I’d go for lunch, which is slightly cheaper, because the extra items for the dinner menu don’t add anything extra for me. The rolls in the AYCE are a little rice-heavy. I mention this because you’ll be charged by the piece if you have leftovers on your plate or don’t finish something. If you fill up on rice and have lots left over, well, that adds to your bill. A lot of the appetizers and individual sushi pieces give you better value than loading up on rolls. I recommend ordering in «courses» so that you have enough(not too much!) in each course and avoid filling up too much in one burst. The restaurant was a little less than half-full when my group visited and we had a moderate wait between orders, so you also don’t want to order just one or two pieces. Overall: I like this place for variety, but if there’s something I have a craving for, I’d rather go to Sakura for higher-quality rolls and excellent staff.

Pretty good. Wish they had sweet potato maki, or plain asparagus maki. The service was a little pushy and the end of the meal to get us out before 9pm on a weekday evening. Was still writing in the tip and a server tried to grab the paper and pen away — not great service manners.

I opted for the AYCE Lunch for $ 15.99 Miso soup — bland needs more miso paste and the tofu is cubed very tiny. House salad — iceburg lettuce topped with a slice of cucumber, drenched with ginger dressing but flavorful. First plate — 14 pcs. sushi and 1 Yellow Tail Roll. It was good, the fish to rice ratio is perfect. The freshness of the fish is also just average. Second plate — 6 pcs. sushi and 1 Bolcano Roll. The roll is very good and perfect spiciness. Will definetely try for dinner with the family. Came for dinner AYCE $ 20.99. Few items added to dinner like deep fried oysters and chicken It’s a good value for the quality of the fish they serve. Make sure you finish all items ordered because they charge you per peice if you do not. Weekends gets busy so just be patient because they make everything fresh so with a full restaurant even with 3 sushi chefs it slows down the delivery.

Just had one of the worst sushi experiences ever. I am a avid sushi eater and go out for it several times a month. The service was horrible. We ordered at 630 and didn’t get our food to our table until 7:30. When it arrived it wasn’t correct. Things that should have been hot were cold. Things that were supposed to be cold tasted less than fresh. The sushi rice was pasty and the sushi pieces were overloaded with rice. 4 people were at my table one ordered chicken terikayi her meal was delivered immediately, while the rest of the food was delivered a hour later. The appetizer foods we ordered were brought out cold. The restrauant was NOT busy. A waitress, waiter and 2 sushi bar chefs were visible. There were 5 other clients also waiting for food. I will NEVER return to this establishment.
