Blake’s Books is a neat independent neighborhood bookstore. Look for it on the east side of Central avenue next door to Central sandwich. A very relaxed and quite environment for reading, perusing and enjoying readables of all types — lots of places to sit and look. For readers young and old. On my last visit, I found several great art catalogs and added a pre Berlin Wall, 1980s Russian 1920 – 30 industrial arts art catalog for 15 $ when I researched it online the best price I could find was 40 $! That’s a deal in my book on a really cool art book! Blake’s has a wide and varied selection of both new and used books. ½ price and discounted books throughout the store. This is a great local, independent book store that serves the community well. A solid 4 stars. 204

Been going here for ages! Always great selection, and very fair prices! The only thing that’s a bummer is its in Mack and I live in eureka, but totally worth the drive!

As a bookstore junkie, I can say that this is my favorite small-town bookstore I have ever entered.

I’ve been going to Blake’s Books since it opened and I was a teenager. Courtney always has great recommendations and is willing to order books if she doesn’t have something in stock. This bookstore is great if you want to peruse and have a nice chat about books.

They have a lot of books here in pretty new condition at half off the cover price. Its not a big store and their collection is by no means comprehensive, but its definitely fun to poke around and if I’m looking for something specific, I would definitely call them up and see if they have it before I went to borders and paid full price :)

Nice shop. Good selection of used mysteries. Staff offered help initially and when help was declined, left me alone to shop. I heard a customer consult staff about children’s books; she sounded knowledgable and helpful.

Maybe the guy who complained about Blake’s Books not carrying local authors didn’t actually go into the store. As you walk in the front door, the first thing you see is a table of local authors. I find the store a lovely, quiet place to look, read, and talk with the well read owner and employees. There are no cup cakes, coffee, and crying kids. There is a great selection of books and they will order anything you can’t find and have it almost overnight. Maybe the book the crabby reviewer tried to put in the store just wasn’t very good. Sounds like sour grapes to me. We’re lucky to have the store in McKinleyville!

Normally I would always patronize the only local bookstore in town over any Big Box competetor, but in the case of Blake’s I make an exception and drive 15 miles to buy books at Borders in Eureka. Why? Because she refuses to carry books by local authors and was rude on several occasions. I can’t comprehend a small local bookshop not dealing with local writers, but whatever! Borders has a staff person tasked with Local Authors and they have sold a number of copies of my book and I assume many of other local books as well. Blake’s loss is corporate America’s gain.
