Came in on New Year’s Eve at around 3pm with a coworker. Horrible service. Short staffed. No manager came to address our concerns. I asked the cool if they were out of a particular meat and without checking he says yeah I think we are out. He never even looked at the meat and never checked for more in the back. He stayed next to the grill. Didn’t acknowledged the fact of this when we brought up our orders to be cooked. I asked a server if they were out and he said no we just need to refill it. He did offer to make some but at this point it’s worthless bc I am on lunch break… limited on time. My coworker and I both ordered fried rice as the starch and they must have been out of that too or the same lazy ass cook didn’t wanna go grab more bc we only received less than a half cup at best of rice. Which isn’t how much is usually served. I addressed this as well… still no manager. Tables were not clean and this was just a piss poor experience in general. Reading the reviews it actually doesn’t surprise me now. I would probably go to another location if I were you guys. Much better experience at other locations and I used to eat genghis several times a week. This will be the 1st and last time I visit this sad excuse for a restaurant.

Very nice pleasant and enjoyable stir fry done your way as I sat down for an evening meal with my family. Customer service is very engaged and that is always a plus.

Food was great. Service was terrible. CJ brought my husband a tea refill and didn’t bring me one. Our guests asked for water and he brought only one refill instead of two. It took 15 minutes for them to check our rewards card. We were told in Frisco we had a free bowl, but now we don’t. Not really sure how that works. Spent most f our meal looking for the waiter. Used to you could ask for an egg to be put in the meal, but they have said they are«out» if eggs the last 3 visits. Hmmmmm. Really?

The problem with this place is consistency; not just from a service or food point, but from a business concept point of view. We’ve been about six times this past year and I kid you not, each time there’s a new rule, a new way of doing things or items removed. It used to be you had cards at the table, you filled it out and started your bowl. Then the cards were moved to a server. Now you have to grab a tray and then grab a bowl from a server(why?) behind the line. They are inconsistent with meat offerings; shrimp is back, but they’ve removed several steak and fish offerings to make up for that. Also gone: eggs. Just like shrimp was gone for FOURYEARS, eggs aren’t making a comeback here anytime in the near future. Tonight they were out of mushrooms, sprouts, water chestnuts and several sauces. I always get tortillas as the side option so I can put butter and cheese on them and rig up a burrito type concoction; was informed after the fact that to cut costs they’ve gotten rid of cheese and butter. They also did away with the kids eat free on Tuesday night promotion. Management and staff changes here about as frequent as I change socks; this location should be shut down. Service was rude and inattentive and manager should be fired.

If you are looking for a «fancy» dining experience with sophisticated ambiance, this restaurant is not for you. If you are looking for a simple dining experience with fun, fresh ingredients that you can customize to your liking then you should give Genghis Grill — Build Your Own Stir Fry a try. You pick your meats and vegetables and hand your«raw» creation to the Genghis chefs. The chefs cook/stir fry your creation on a huge commercial flat top grill and when ready your server… serves you. But I digress. Once you’re seated, a server takes your drink order(they do serve alcohol) and he gives you an order card and a pen. You write your name on the card and choose a starch — rice, noodles, pasta, tortillas. Then, you head over to the buffet… and this is where the fun starts. First, choose a small, medium or large size bowl to pile your choice of uncooked meats and veggies in to. Then, size up the bowl and have fun! You’re faced with 15 — 16 different proteins(meats) first. Some are plain and some have been marinated. I chose fiesta lime chicken and sirloin steak tips.(The chicken was awesome.) Step two, there are 10 — 12 spices including salt & pepper to sprinkle on the meats. Step three is the equivalent of shopping at the salad bar. There were at least 20 different vegetables to choose from. I chose mushrooms, peppers, cherry tomatoes, spinach, cabbage & broccoli. At step four, choose a cooking sauce. I chose Honey Soy and loved it! As our server explained, the sauces are lined up mild, medium and spicy from right to left. There are ramekins there for the sauce and theoretically you could choose a couple. Step five — hand your tray to the chef. He will confirm your starch choice and then you walk away. Sit down, watch a little football and viola dinner is served. Thankfully for first time diners, there is a huge sign that explains the process. I absolutely loved my creation and our server made sure our drinks were full. Both of us has the Medium Bowl. I had lemonade, my hubby had a beer and our tab was $ 34.00 before tip. Fun times. We look forward to going back so we can make some new creations.

Should be called Genghis Con. $ 26 for two bowls of rice with some meat and vegetables. You’d have to be from California to think this is a good deal.

Honestly can’t wait to come back here. You pick the size of your bowl then add any and all ingredients you want! From meat to veggie down to the seasoning and sauce. Pass it down and they will cook it up. The only down fall I can see for some– is if you seasone your meat wrong or too much too little sauce. My suggestion is hold up that line if need be and make that baby perfect. It’s worth it!

Have avoided Genghis for awhile because the McKinney location always looked and felt dirty. Today, I gave into the kids’ request to go again. I don’t know if this location is under new management, but it was noticeably cleaner. May go again, afterall.

I’ve never been to a Genghis grill before and was ready to leave within the first 2 minutes. This restaurant is banged up pretty bad, booth seats are ripped to where large areas of stuffing are showing, tables were dirty, wooden seats and tables were chipped and shabby. Décor consists of barren walls with signs advertising Genghis grill. I really wanted to leave when I saw how run down the place was, but we had a gift card. The server was friendly, and the food(teriyaki with pineapple) was ok. The place smelled of a commercial spray cleaner. I think it would have been a much better experience if the place wasn’t so shabby looking.

Not the best service at this location. We were seated in an area and the server was no where to be found. The man who seated us took over for our MIA waitress. My wife asked the server to wipe down our table since there was still evidence of previous diners. The food was good– some meat selections were a little low, but nothing we normally pick. Food arrived with a reasonable amount of wait time. Our server checked on us once after receiving our food and then disappeared for around 10 minutes. We both had empty glasses and set them on the edge of the table. I finally resorted to asking another waiter for refills. When we asked for boxes, our waiter did not offer any dessert options and instead plopped our check on the table. Even with discounts or promotions I doubt we will return to this location– it was a disappointing stop on our date night.

I like coming here. The food is very tasty and you add your own spices and sauces, so you can make it to your liking. They always seem to be short handed, they should hire more people. They have changed the way you order your starch with your meal, so now it’s a little more work to get your food to the cooks. Good food, will definitely come back.

I enjoy the concept and food, but quality is a little inconsistent. My kids love this place which is unusual, because the oldest is such a finicky eater. Everything almost always looks fresh and they offer a variety of meat, vegetables, fruits, seasonings, and sauces to accommodate just about any palette. Service is average, just enough to keep you from complaining. Prices are good. On my last visit they were out of Stella Artois. I’m curious if the $ 2 bottle special had something to do with that? Still a great place to get a good tasting bowl of noddles or rice.

I got an email for a free regular bowl… these reviews scared me a bit but I took the chance. Been a few years since I’ve been to Genghis… they offer 3 different size bowls. Small, regular, large. The waiter said I could upgrade to the large and only had to pay the difference… Score!(I wanted leftovers) Very disappointed in their protein selection… how do you not have any shrimp!!! But you have a huge helping of FAKECRAB. I understand shrimp has become very expensive recently… but if you can offer scallops… I think you can offer shrimp. Also chili paste wasn’t offered along with the other sauce. I like combining chili sauce with the dragon to make it more spicy. The veggie selection was fine and appeared very plentiful when we came for dinner. The sweetened mango tea is very good overall I like their selection of flavored lemonades and teas. I’d come back probably but I still don’t understand why they don’t offer shrimp.

Haven’t been to a Genghis in a while so maybe I wasn’t aware of the changes. They’ve removed shrimp and many of the other items that used to be available. The bowl sizes have also changed, they are much smaller now. The old kids bowl is now their regular sized bowl. Wife had what seemed to be spoiled veggies. They did remove her bowl from the bill, but really??? The service was a better this time, I’m definitely NOT coming back.

Absolutely«HORRIBLE» place! Took the misses here on a Sunday, and constantly complained about the burnt residue from the grill being on our food. We eventually were told by the manager that the grill usually gets cleaned on Monday’s and that we just chose the wrong day to come. We couldn’t enjoy the meal at all because we were constantly picking this crap out of our food. Oh yeah, they refused to refund us our money too.

Not sure why this place only has a 3 star average. It’s clean, it has lots of foods to choose from and is not too expensive(not cheap either.) You can pick exactly how you want your food to taste. Fast service. So much better than most Asian restaurant around these parts.

I went to this McKinney location with my daughter and son-in-law for lunch, and we each chose the medium bowl. My daughter and I, being calamari fans, both chose calamari as part of our bowl. When Our food was cooked and served to our table, I took several bites of my bowl and the taste was fine; however, after several bites, I bit into a piece of calamari that must have been spoiled, as the taste was extremely offensive. I immediately told my daughter and we both started picking out the calamari pieces from our bowls and put them onto a napkin so that we wouldn’t run into any more«bad» pieces. About an hour later, upon returning home, I became ill and experienced mild symptoms of food poisoning. I called the manager on duty that afternoon and he didn’t seem very concerned. Perhaps the new calamari is being poured on top of old calamari, or the temperature of the calamari is not being kept cold enough, but this certainly warrants having someone from a corporate level look into the matter and ensure that these are not contributing factors. I am very unhappy with the lack of concern by the manager on duty, and am hesitant to try this location again unless I can be sure that these problems are addressed. As a Realtor, I visit this location often with coworkers as well as family, and I am very disappointed to have experienced this issue.

This Genghis has GREATLY improved since our last visit. The store was generally clean and neat. The tables and seats were clean as far as we could tell. The servers were attentive and mostly personable. The only downside that we still notice is the overwhelming smell of the meat station. It has a strong odor of fish, but I assume this is because they offer more fish products than in the past. I like fish but I don’t want to smell it throughout the restaurant. I have no solution for this so I don’t «count off» for this in the review. The stations are well stocked and clean(we were the first customers of the day, so I would expect this). I understand why they offer to build your bowl for you, but I think it’s silly except maybe for children or the elderly and then this should be a courtesy. I do like that there is more variety of starches with the different size bowls. Don’t forget about the electronic device things on the tables with games, etc. that are great for keeping the kids(and adults) entertained while you wait for your bowl. We had Matt as our waiter. He’s a young guy and he’s mostly efficient and very attentive. Glad we got him as our server! We did a survey online after our previous visit voicing our issues with the last visit and we got a response email very quickly. We can also see the vast improvement since our last visit. Thanks Genghis for taking your customers needs to heart and working so hard to improve… and succeeding!
