Kumon is dear to my heart. I grew up with this curriculum and it has definitely given me the skills I needed for school and to be well off academically. I could go on and on about all the things that I’ve learned in this program but in short, I completed the math and reading programs at a very young age and received many awards for my achievements. I have to give credit to my Instructor, Mr. Marcos, he is just the best. What’s funny is that I initially wanted to be smart just so I could make friends. lol I got to a point where I could help my friends with their homework so they could come outside to play basketball with me. Looking back to when I was younger I remembered that it was hard to make friends unless you were good at something, ie, a sport, karate, an instrument, etc so it was nice that it was easy for me to make friends with my academic skills. As I went through college I noticed that not everything would have been solved in the Kumon curriculum. However, because of Kumon, I developed an intuition for learning. That’s Kumon’s whole thing: learning how to learn. I could easily learn complex physics, chemistry, business law, economics, etc because I learned how to be independent with my education. I think many students struggle with this idea that they can actually do things beyond what society tells them they can do. In my opinion, Kumon is THEBEST program that parents can enroll their child into to greatly enhance their academic abilities. Like I said, Kumon is dear to my heart and with Mr. Marcos’s help, your child is for sure in good hands!

Math and I have always had our battles. I mean, it was my kryptonite for sure! My troubles really began in high school when I started taking Honors Pre-Calculus. My algebra skills were weak but I was always able to just get by in school. High school was an entirely different beast altogether. I knew that I desperately needed a refresher. Luckily, I found Kumon to help me get back on track. My Kumon Instructor, Mr. Marcos, was always great in communicating with me and making everything so easy! We made a plan together and went for it! It was ambitious to say the least but he never made me any promises, guarantees, no quick-fixes, miracles, nothing! Just hard work is all I needed to give him. But within the next grading period, I understood my homework and performed well on exams. I received an A in Pre-Calculus as well as an A in Calculus thanks to him. His help extended into my college years and thankfully in my Kumon sheets we tackled even more advanced mathematics. He has always been patient and willing to alter his teaching methods to fit comfortably for me. Over the years, I can tell that he gives his all and pays close attention to each of his students. He has made me comfortable with math and even more confident when handling difficult challenges. I see that passion he has for each of his students and I know he wants to see everyone succeed no matter what they decide to do in life. In our class sessions, I am encouraged to be better and strive for greater things for myself. Mr. Marcos has taught me more than how to excel academically and it is no surprise to me that we have become lifelong friends. It truly is a freeing feeling to become really good at something you would never believe you could be good at and that’s a gift that’s greater than anything anyone could ever give to another person — independence through knowledge. Kumon is wonderful for many reasons but a huge reason is because of the passion the Instructors have towards what they do.
