Fantastic kebabs, by far the best I’ve had. The lamb kebabs are the best seasoned and most delicious. Their doogh is also fantastic. Not too thick balances in taste. The rice is also good and the Koobideh is tasty. The koofteh is also well seasoned. Only criticism is that the bread doesn’t come with yogurt. Oh well. Still, best kebabs in the DMV. Place is small but pleasantly decorated. The service is fast and friendly.

Wow. This place just blew all the Persian restaurants from LA out of the water. My perusing on Unilocal led my buddy and I here. Bison kebab, never had it before coming here. I just had to have it, being the carnivore that I am. We ventured here in the late afternoon. When we pulled up, we realized the place was smaller than expected. We walked in, and were seated immediately. The waitress brought us menus and water. She told us of their specials. I picked what I was craving: the bison kebab. My buddy had the filet mignon with beef. I got zereshk polo, and my buddy had bastami rice. The bison was delicious, and the zereshk polo complimented the meal perfectly. The naan was warm, soft, and tasty. The meal was concluded with chai. The service was outstanding. The waitress was very friendly. I believe this place is family owned, and is a staple of the Persian community in northern Virginia. I would recommend this place.

It’s very seldom that I have Persian cuisine, and because my friend has been raving about this restaurant, I decided to give it a try. What blew me away were the lamb shank stew and saffron ice cream. You see, I never really liked lamb because of it’s gamey taste, but when I sank my teeth into the fall off the bone deliciousness, I instantly was converted to eating lamb meat. It was so good I ordered one more to go for my son. Lamb shank just has never been this good . Swing by when you’re in the DMV… Make a reservation though as it can fill up easily on weekends.

Had dinner here for the first time last night. Celebrating a dear friend’s birthday. The four of us are foodies and the child is b slightly picky. One of our party has been to Iran on business several times. The service was just right. The food, authentically delicious. Servings enormous. We had lamb kabob, Cornish hen and chicken kabob and the lamb shank for me. We ordered the meatball stew for the child. Size overwhelmed him and he ate Dad’s chicken breast and vice versa. Surprised at how full restaurant was and with mostly middle Easterners. Proved food was authentic and yummy Highly recommend

Went for lunch on a Friday. They had no Kabob as the grill was down. That was why we went. Over decorated and dark not inviting. Do not think I will go back

It’s Persian style kabob, quite different from the Pakistani style. Tea and ice cream here are also out of the world! Amoo greets you personally when you are leaving the restaurant, really nice experience!

I wasn’t a huge fan of my beef stew(too lemon-y) but everything else about this place was wonderful, especially the service. We came on a Friday night without a reservation — big mistake! — but the waitstaff were attentive and we were seated without too long of a wait. The rose tea and ice cream were lovely.

Since I’ve check in dozens of times, it’s time I reviewed this wonderful restaurant, which has evolved over the years from being a rough-around-the edges neighborhood family kabob joint into a legitimate contender for best Persian cuisine in the DC area. Where to begin? How about with the kabobs, which frankly put the other area kabob joints to shame. In fact, it’s a miracle that Moby Dick stays in business when Amoo’s is right down the street, serving meat that’s leagues ahead in terms of both flavor and tenderness, with veggies that deserve as much praise as the meat, and portions that frankly are big enough to serve two people. I don’t know how they get their chicken, in particular, this tender. Speaking of veggies, the veggie kabob is the best value and also one of the best items on the menu, with rich and flavorful grilled persian eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and onions, served over Amoo’s lima bean and dill rice(if you prefer the traditional buttered white rice, you can ask for that instead). The stews are pricey, but like the kabobs, are a cut above. There are a few regular items, like a lamb shank with eggplant, but do yourself a favor and ask about the special of the day. It’s usually something good. The chicken soup is also something that’s not available every day, but oh man, is it good. Richly flavored and loaded. And don’t forget the bread. They really upgraded it a few years ago when they switched from a more lavash-style to a barbari or tandoor-style bread, and it’s addicting. Straight out of the oven. Use it to mop up every last drop of your stew. I generally hate Unilocal reviews that overly fixate on the service over the food, but the Amoo’s family deserves extra praise for being so darned friendly. It’s rare these days to go into a restaurant and feel like you are a welcome guest in somebody’s home. Even if you’re just picking up takeout, this is a place that welcomes every customer with a smile and a genuine feeling that they are delighted to serve you. 5 stars. Being from a family business background, I always have great respect and admiration for all family businesses because it is a guaranteed personal touch and that is what Amoo’s delivers. That personal touch starts the moment you walk in to the moment you leave. The service is excellent and the food(from presentation to taste) is sublime and shows their personal touch. Coming to the food specifically… I highly recommend their bison kebab, the kubideh and the chicken tandoori and if you happen to meet my buddy Chef Seb then ask him to make some recommendations and don’t forget to have their ice cream(it is the most authentic in the NOVA area and a home recipe!). Amoo’s has cemented itself as one of my top 10 restaurants! Kudos!

There really isn’t anything bad about this place at all. After dozens of visits and countless takeout orders. This has to be one of the most consistent and delectable restaurants for this simple but elevated food. Chef Sebastian is very kind and extremely talented. The food is fantastic.

We have been to many Persian/Iranian restaurants in the DC metropolitan area and the votes from family & friends are in: Amoo’s House of Kabob is the BEST. 1– Food: Obviously the main thing is the food when you go to a restaurant; The food here gets 10 stars from me. Keep up the good work Amoo! 2– Service: The waiters here are polite and prompt when asked for services. 3– Environment: It is suitable for big or small parties. I will definitely go back and recommend this place for all Kabob lovers out there!

Very quality kabob spot. Got the chimichurri lamb kabob, which was among the best kabob dishes I’ve had — more tender than other knobs and spicy/tangy. Saffron rice was also good. The chimichurri sauce was great(ask for extra). The flatbread that came with the meal was a little dry, but I could tell it had been cooked in a tandoor. I got food to go, which took ~30 mins, so be forewarned if you plan for a quick meal. As many have mentioned, this is not the same model as other kabob places in the area. It is much more formal and they pay attention to the. I personally don’t think the dish(at $ 24) was twice as good as other kabob options around, but if price is not a concern then you’ll be very pleased. Will be back to try some of the other dishes!

Best kabob and Persian food I’ve ever had! Absolutely delicious… I had the lamb with saffron rice and my boyfriend had the beef patty combo. The meat is perfectly marinated and cooked, leaving you with unforgettable flavors before they melt away in your mouth… I’m not exaggerating. Try it and you’ll see yourself. One more thing, try the«saffron ice-cream». That’s my last wisdom.

Excellent! The food, the service, the ambiance. Everything was absolutely perfect! My fiancé took me to Amoo’s House of Kabob on a Monday night(for the last of several amazing birthday weekend meals) and we were personally greeted by Amoo himself, who served us the food and made sure that we had a great experience. He was so polite and friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. My fiancé and I had a delightful time! We ordered several different types of dishes, since I wanted him to try more Persian dishes besides the ones he’s tried(kabob koobideh and ghormeh sabzi). We ordered the following dishes: –Ash Reshteh soup to begin with(with lentils, beans, noodles, fried onions, and other delish ingredients). This is a classic staple of Persian food and my fiancé really enjoyed it. –Kabob Koobideh(Grilled ground beef) with rice and a grilled tomato. This dish came in a very generous portions of two long kabobs. The kabob was succulent and perfect! Such a generous portion and delicious to the taste. –Ghormeh Sabzi over Tahdeeg. This is another staple of Persian cuisine and we LOVED it! My fiancé had had it once before and also really enjoyed this one. Perfect portion and delicious over the tahdeeg(hard rice). It’s essentially a stew of mixed veggies, beans, and beef. –Khoresht Bademjan(eggplant stew with beef). This was so delicious. I hadn’t had it in a long time and this was my fiancé’s first time trying it. He loved it as well! It’s perfect served over rice. Amoo’s House of Kabob is undeniably my favorite Persian restaurant in the entire DMV area. The food is delicious, the service was so friendly and hospitable, and the atmosphere is so homey. My fiancé and I are both in love with this place and are in total agreement that it’ll be our go-to Persian restaurant. Even 10 stars couldn’t do this place justice! So much love for Amoo’s House of Kabob!

Just wow!!! I have had Persian friends tell me this was some of the best and most he were not lying! My food was so good I forgot to take a picture! I had the lamb kabob and it came out tender and juicy. It came with an ample helping of Persian rice. I’m a carb lover and filled up on meat instead of the fabulous rice it was so good! They do take reservations, and I highly recommend you make them. This hidden gem is not too big and seems to always be packed. I honestly can’t wait to go back!

This is a great place. The kaboobs were just awesome and the portions are just great. The ambiance is very very nice. The people are so warm and friendly that you are comfortable as soon as you get inside the restaurant. We had ordered a platter with combination of different types of kaboob. It was just awesome. Certainly recommend this place.

Came here with M for dinner. Parking can be a bit difficult depending on what time you come. It’s located in a small shopping center, slightly hidden in a corner. I used to visit Amoo’s a lot during my college days. I haven’t been back until most recently when a friend suggested we meet here for dinner. I’m glad I came back! I believe the owners have changed since I used to visit, years ago. Service was incredibly friendly and attentive. Everyone was so nice and patient. I asked for some more green spicy sauce, and the kind gentleman brought me 3 servings of it! Generous indeed: D M and I took our sweet time with dinner and were the last customers to leave for the night. The employees never rushed us and we felt so at home. When you’re here, you’re family. The décor is also different, it looks much more inviting and cozy inside now. The complimentary bread they give you also has changed from when I last visited. It’s super fresh and almost naan-like. Comes in a basket with a cloth over it. I remember when the bread used to be these cold, stale, square-like things prepackaged in zip lock bags. So happy it’s different now. The Kabobs and rice were all delicious as always. One thing Amoo’s has always done well, is their food. Fluffy warm rice that just melts in your mouth. Tender kabobs seasoned perfectly. Sprinkle some sumac(found on each table) on your dish and it’s perfection. End your meal with some Persian Ice Cream and you will not be sorry. Smooth and creamy ice cream blended with saffron, vanilla bean, rose water and pistachios. It’s so good, you’ll want more!

I have been to this place 4 times and I can say it is undoubtedly one of the best places in the US to have kabob, especially when it comes to Barg. The food is presented nicely but the ambience and interior reminds you of a very old but not nostalgic place. They could have done w better job in designing it with more persian elements than Shah’s picture. Anyway the food is amazing. The only complain I have is that the food is extremely greasy here. The rice and the curries(khoresht) are loaded with butter. Delicious but unhealthy. Last time I asked them not to add extra butter to the rice and I loved it. I’ll definitely go back to this place.
