This kiosk(in the basement outside of Macy’s) has been around for 4 months. Thus, I’m surprised that I’m the first to review them! Mirage Cake Creations offers a very limited number of cupcakes — vanilla, chocolate ganache and red velvet. I must say that the cupcakes are beautifully decorated. The photo my husband took doesn’t do them justice. He tried taking 4 photos in different light and different backgrounds but they all ended up looking washed out. So — we chose the least washed out looking one. We found out by talking to the young woman who was running the kiosk that her mother bakes the cupcakes. According to their business card, the«vice president» is Monica L. de Lara — I’m guessing that’s the mother… When we told the daughter what 2 flavors we wanted, she told us to pick a cupcake with the decoration we liked best. Some were cute but for kids, like the one with a pink pig on it. Most had gorgeous flowers that looked too good to be edible(but they were edible). I picked out an all vanilla one with a yellow and white flower while my husband picked a chocolate ganache one with a pinkish flower. All that said, the cupcakes were okay. The frosting was a sugar-based one. I was quite surprised to find that the flower on mine had lemony undertones. The cake wasn’t very dense nor was it very moist. My husband said that he found his chocolate one to be a bit too sweet. While we don’t regret trying these cupcakes, we’re not going to make a special trip to Tysons for them either. Their prices are competitive — two cupcakes cost $ 6.26. It may surprise some to hear this but I think that CakeLove on a good day is a better choice when in Tysons and wanting a cupcake.
