This review is loooonnnggg over due.
I went to Michael right before Thanksgiving. I had this unusual blonde ombré that never seemed quite right. After looking at a million pictures on Instagram I stumbled across his page. His color techniques were exactly what I was looking for.
The salon is quite and tucked away in McLean. It is not pretentious at all and they really take the time to do a consultation prior to even touching your hair.
Here is the verdict: Michael’s color theory is ON POINT! I have gotten so confused over the years of exactly what I am looking for I don’t know what to tell stylists anymore. I honestly didn’t have to tell Michael much. His understanding of what I was looking for was almost inherent. And Michael was very honest with me. He explained that what I was trying to achieve was not a traditional ombré and that we almost had to go toward more a traditional highlight. He was RIGHT. The end result was exactly what I was looking for. Now almost 5 weeks later I was getting ready for work and I realized that my color still looked as fresh as when I got it. I want to point something out: Michael is young. I am not saying this as a negative but to reinforce that his color theory is based off sheer understanding and talent rather than years and years of trial and error. And he is literally the sweetest man. I really enjoyed my time there. The last thing I want to say is that his prices are very reasonable. No gouging and if he suggests an add on he is up front with any additional charges.

Jyll colored my hair two weekends ago and the color has turned out to be even better then I would have imagined. Jyll was so great and knowledgeable. Before leaving the salon I stopped by the desk and booked all of my appointments for the next year to make sure I could fit in Jyll’s schedule. I would give her 6 stars if I could.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would!
This is by far the BEST salon in the Northern Virginia area. Michael is a fabulous stylist and a creative genius when it comes to color and cut… Jill, the owner, knows what shes doing when it comes to creating a beautiful salon and hiring amazing people. I was extremely impressed by the family and team atmosphere amongst her and the staff and I cannot imagine going anywhere else.
Thank you so much everybody (and especially Michael) for making me look so gorgeous! I have not stop getting compliments on my color! See you in 6 wks :)))

Michael is amazing! I came in to tone my blonde ombré hair (it turned brassy due to it being previously dyed red) and the end result was a beautiful brown to ash blonde color.
Michael explained everything in detail, which showed that he definitely knows what he’s doing! He explained why my hair was brassy, what color he was using and why, and what I should expect the result to be.
All the staff was super polite. This place was also very clean and modern. I see myself coming back for a trim/​cut next time!

I have been seeing Michael for about two years now and would recommend him to everyone! He always has a plan for what he wants to do and I really like that because it makes me feel at ease with him. I just relax and let him work his magic. My hair is dark and I have a lot of it so it has been a little problematic in the past. I’ve had different stylists before complain about my hair and how difficult it is to lift and just complain about the amount of hair I have. It got a little frustrating at times but as soon as I found Michael it was a perfect match! He was able to tame my hair so well and with the balayage technique he has mastered he was able to transform my hair fully!
When I go to see Michael and tell him that I’m thinking about changing my color he always has a plan! Which I love! I’ll have a couple of ideas and together we work on what’s best for my hair. At the end of the day my hair ends up looking fabulous and healthy! What more could I want. I get compliments daily and I always say… «GO SEE MICHAEL, HE’S THE BEST!»

I started going to Jyll when she worked at Elements and am delighted that she now has her own salon, which is clean, comfortable, stylish, and equipped with the latest salon technology.
Jyll is a very talented stylist and she really listens to my requests and concerns. She also knows that I am very low-​maintenance when it comes to styling my hair at home, and gives me a haircut that looks great and is easy for me to manage on my own. When I chopped over ten inches of my hair to donate, she gave me a really stylish mid-​length cut that I love! She took pains to make sure that I would be happy with the new cut after such a big change, which I really appreciated. She really knows her stuff, and I’m always impressed at how perfect and beautiful my hair looks when she is done with it!
On top of that, Jyll is also very kind and customer service oriented, and extremely professional. I highly recommend her and her beautiful new salon!

After years in the wilderness, unhappily flitting from one salon to another, I chanced upon Jyll about 3 years ago. I’ve never looked back. When she recently opened up her own salon, I didn’t hesitate to follow. There’s a lot to love about Revolution Colour Studio and its owner.
First and foremost, talent: As much as I hit it off with Jyll – she’s fun and charismatic and a great storyteller – I wouldn’t have stayed on were it not for her abilities. She’s a superb colorist and stylist, with a natural eye and sense of aesthetic
Moreover, though rightly confident about her abilities, she’s never complacent and takes various courses to constantly hone her skills and be up on the latest trends. And, as someone who personally «walks the walk, talks the talk» when it comes to healthy living, Jyll brings that ethos to the salon, exclusively using top-​of-​the-​line, natural products.
Her team: A perfectionist, who is demanding of herself and those around her, Jyll’s put together a small and growing team with Michael and Catherine who exemplify professionalism and talent (Michael stepped into to style/​blow dry my hair this week and rocked it!). Each of the times I’ve been in the new salon, I hear them, along with Jyll, always exchanging questions and ideas on techniques, which I think is really refreshing. They all seem to have a genuine interest in learning and perfecting.
The salon: It’s big, bright, airy and modern, recently renovated, and with the latest in salon technology. The infrared hairdryers are incredibly cool: unobtrusive to the point you hardly feel the heat. The place, combined with its staff, has a really good energy.
As this review attests, I’m a huge fan of Jyll and her salon and I suspect that she’ll get many others as Revolution grows over the coming months and years.

Salon started by a genius stylist, Jyll, whom I’ve seen for years at another McLean salon. She is amazing. I have extremely thick and wavy hair, lots of different natural colors and textures, and it’s the rare stylist who can handle it. She knows her stuff.
Jyll is also fabulous with customer service, so it is natural that she would hang out her own shingle. She’s a great judge of character, and her new employee Michael was finishing up her style (bravo!) when I arrived for my last cut. Revolution Colour Studio is really well done, and I’m writing this as apprentice Catherine is doing my 5 year old’s first salon cut (at 50% off during apprenticeship!).
Cannot recommend highly enough.

I moved to the D.C. area more than 3 years ago, and went from salon to salon — bad hair cut to bad hair cut — until after several months and thanks to Unilocal,I found Jyll at Elements McLean. I have been going to Jyll at Elements ever since, and am so delighted now that she has her own salon called Revolution Colour Studio! I have short hair and Jyll’s cuts and styling (I don’t color) are superb and always last through my next appointments in 6 – 8 weeks. I often get compliments on my hair style and cut at work, thanks to Jyll! Jyll takes the time to get to know her clients, and gives her best advice to us on what is best for us. Her new salon is gorgeous, gleaming with clean, classic style. She continues to use and sell Surface products, which she used at Elements, and which I love. I love Jyll and recommend her to anyone who wants an expert hair artist with integrity, passion for her work, and commitment to help her clients look their best!

I love Jyll so much that I am reluctant to share her, but everyone deserves a great hair stylist, colorist and friend in their life. I started going to Jyll several years ago (when she worked at Elements) based upon the glowing Unilocal reviews. I was not disappointed. From the very first appointment, where she spent thirty minutes listening to me talk about my hair (with all of its issues), and then gave me the best haircut of my life, I knew I had a keeper. And believe me, I have tried quite a few salons with top-​notch prices and reviews. Jyll’s prices are reasonable, and my color and cut are both so natural that my hair looks great even eight weeks later. I won’t go to anyone else even though I have to drive 90 minutes to get to her. And best of all, she has just opened her own salon and it is beautiful, stylish and sparkling. I would highly recommend the salon and Jyll to anyone who needs a stylist who really listens and provides a great service.

Jyll whom I started with at Elements has opened her own salon and I am thrilled for her! Went to her new salon today, which is so welcoming and comfortable and my cut and color are so perfect, she rocked it as she does every time. You will not find a better salon ever. You will feel like a valued customer and walk out with an awesome do.

If you want someone who will take plenty of time to consider whether or not the cut suits your hair, face, and lifestyle, this is the place for you. She won’t let you (or rather, give you) the wrong cut. Or the wrong color. If it’s not jjjjuuuusssttt right, she won’t be happy.
She cuts my son’s hair too. You know someone is good when his super thick and super straight hair grows out perfectly, not a hair out of place. It’s hard to find someone who can do that – believe me, I’ve tried a few.
The salon itself, being rather new, is a little harder to comment on as they’re not up to full staffing yet. Front desk is really nice, easy to book appointments, coffee, etc, while you get your cut. Everything is nice, new, clean, modern. I like that.
If you’re fussy about your hair, call. But not too often, I don’t want to have trouble making appointments. :-)
