Very shady indeed. I received a coupon for $ 69.95 for 17 point Safety inspection and condensor coil cleaning. The fellow came and sprayed the coils with with a foaming solution, and that was it! No 17 point inspection, ANDNOTHINGELSE. He took approximately 4 minutes to do this. You can buy the coil cleaner at Lowe’s or any other supply store for a fraction of the cost. A TOTALSCAM!

Horrible, horrible experience. A very shady company with aggressive bait-and-switch pricing. We had purchased an online deal with Angie’s List. Once Five Star got in the house it was nothing but add-ons and up charges. The deal we had purchased had very specific pricing. The add-ons should have been $ 45. Five Star wanted $ 600. In total they wanted more than $ 700 to clean air ducts of a mid-size house. What a joke! And, I got a call from Dave, a manager. He was irate. He cursed at me on the phone and actually threatened to come beat me up. Avoid this company… the pricing is beyond sketchy and the people are bottom feeders.

Excuse my rant, I am very disappointed in my experience with Five Star Furnace. I found the add for Five Star Furnace in the Clipper. I had received a quote from another company and was weary of choosing them because of several bad online reviews. I did some research on 5 star and found that they had good reviews and a great rating from the BBB. I called and gave them the specs on my new home(sq. feet, number of vents, number of main ducts– all of which I had found out when the other company came to give me a quote) in order to get a quote. I mentioned that I found their info in the Clipper which included a coupon for 100 $ off all work that the technician suggests. I explained that we were having another company come out to inspect and clean the furnace. I was worried that the coupon would not apply if the tech suggested that the furnace would need to be cleaned. I was quoted a price of 300 – 400 $ for the duct work including main ducts, vents and returns plus 100 $ off for the coupon, no problem about the furnace, it would still apply. I called around to other places and was quoted similar prices including Sears(who I used to clean the vents in my previous home) had an all inclusive package for $ 339. I decided to choose Five Star thinking that, based on their quote, at most it would cost $ 300 with the coupon. When the techs arrived, they went through my home and inspected my vents and main ducts. I was informed that I had 21 vents/returns and 4 mains. This number was actually less than what the other company had told me thus, less than I what I told Five Star when I called to get a quote. However, the price he quoted was $ 419 before tax, $ 448 with tax. OK, a little higher than what he said on the phone but I wasn’t going to argue about $ 19. Well, turns out that is WITH the $ 100 off. Now I was angry. I had called TWICE to get a quote and was assured it would be 300 – 400 $ plus the coupon. Otherwise, I would have happily chose Sears. I was even told when I asked the second time about the price, to not be jaded by the«other guys» we are not them. Obviously, Five Star is just like all the other companies, tell you one thing to get in the door then try to charge you as much as they can. Next time, I will be taking my business back to Sears. Update: While installing cable in a room in my home that did not have a cable line. I was informed that my return vents actually did not have the vents in them. When you look inside, you can see two by fours but no metal vents. Not sure if this has to do with my home being newer(10 years old) or a result of bad construction when built. I’m still looking into this. However, I find it appalling that 5 Star was at my home the week before and never told me about this. Obviously, they had to know because I was charged for them to clean the returns which they didn’t because there are no metal vents in them. No wonder they told me it would take 3 hours and they were done in an hour and a half.
