Friendly. Clean. Great food and ice cream treats. Family owned and operated with the same owners for 29 years. A McPherson tradition since July 4, 1949!

Ice Cream cake is amazing… service not so much. A bunch of kids not wanting to work and not wanting to pay attention. I was purchasing an ice cream cake while my friend was wanting to order… the other gal at the corner ignored him and the kids when we made it clear they were wanting to order as well. Then it took 3 kids and 2 adults to ask for a spoon for a Peanut Buster Parfait… we get the shortest spoon possible given to us. The one gal helping didn’t even know the menu. Asked multiple questions and then wanted us to answer our own questions. I’ll be driving to Hutchinson for DQ from now on. Those kids know how to run a business and are three steps ahead of you.

This pretty much is the only Dairy Queen I’ll go to and there’s a good reason why. While the location of the DQ in McPherson has change, the ownership remains the same — Roger and Karen Horn. A bit of disclosure, I was pretty good friends with their son, and I also worked here in high school. The food served is the general DQ fare. Your Blizzards. Your Peanut Buster Parfaits. Your Fudge Nut Bars. Your cheeseburgers. You french fries. But there’s something about this Dairy Queen Grill & Chill that sets it apart — the cleanliness factor. Other friends working fast food back in the 90s didn’t have owners or managers calling store meetings on Saturday mornings to make you watch videos about E Coli. But they did here. And while there were moments of holding up counters, we generally had a list of chores to do to ensure grim and gunk didn’t build up anywhere. I’ve been to this location a few times over the years on visits back home. Cleanliness and good service continue to be a priority. My one disappointment is that they don’t seem to make novelty items(Dilly Bars, Ice Cream Sandwiches, etc.) in house anymore. But that happens.
